Pulmu Taryeong (Bellowing Ballad) - English Translation - North Korean Songs in English
zhlédnutí 4KPřed 8 měsíci
"Pulmu Taryeong" is a traditional Korean folk song that workers used to sing while operating bellows in craft factories. Bellows are devices used to fan furnace flames. The work of a bellows operator was repetitive and grueling, involving long hours next to hot furnaces and exposure to heat and harmful gases. To make this labor more bearable, people began creating and singing songs that matched...

My first expirience with Park was actually that speech you open with and I'm not an expert on North Korea, but I remember seeing a very short clip of some of her claims about north korea and im like "hold up, that sounds sus", I'm gonna look into that. I was unsurprised when I found out later she is essentially a grifter. She reminds me of a number of famous defectors, particularly defected spies from the cold war era who made all sorts of outlandish claims after their defection. In particular, Ion Mihai Pacepa, who was the highest ranking Eastern bloc defector, but who's claims in his books are widely regarded as dubious at best, such as his claims about the JFK assassination, Yasser Arafat and the Vatican. And much like Park, Pacepa became (and until his death was) a bit of a darling on the American right.

My God just reading some of these comments i think how ignorant people can be . Its propaganda.. other countries who dont bow down to the US get demonized. This dream that they makes others believe we bring "democracy" or liberty to others is purely to destabilize, for interests like resources, iraq, libya, afghanistan etc arent well off today.. its even sad some soldiers realize these things after they go off to wars.. we dont know unless we were there & we go off what we are told & we really believe that is true?.. sometimes thats really not the reality on the ground. Go & see these things for yourself.. the haircut thing sounds idiotic. & it wasnt true if 2 Australians went to NK just for a haircut & disprove that "fact". Know the difference because there are somethings that sound so outlandish youd be stupid to believe

Instead it was a very normal movie about people. We were sad at the end, hoping the captain would find more happiness in life, like her friend beyound keeping her street safe.

Your mentioning the Korean superstition of the sea’s shoreline being a magnet for ghosts and spirits reminds me of my time when i was in the U.S.Army(01/1969 - 02/1970) stationed right on the port of Busan, spelled Pusan back then, on the Sea of Japan, our American troop ships regularly ferrying R.O.K. Army troops to and from Vietnam. During one of the summer months, a mother who’d lost her son in Vietnam, would come down to the shoreline adjacent to our Pier #3 and keen for days on end while beating on a large aluminum pan. I’d, and we assumed she was practicing what we heard was the shamanism religious practice of South Korea, not aware that this could’ve also been the shoreline superstition.

The one moment that stuck with me the most was from a video of a show (possibly On My Way to Meet You) that has her mom saying Yeonmi told her all the other Korean defectors in the show are lying about their experiences" which kinda tells you a bit about her character (not diagnosing anyone, just a thought) But I'd love to see the goings-on behind the scenes of these talkshows she's in. Like what did the other Korean defectors that came on the show think about her and her stories? Edit: it's 15:42

In the end you say the reason for homophobia in RoK is because of christianity, but meanwhile the traditionally christian countries in the world are the ones with the biggests LGBT movements: USA, Argentina, Spain, Germany, France, etc. If any, christianity is the most open traditional culture in the world towards sexual orientation of the people
