- Today I review the film 눈속에 핀 꽃, known in English as "flower in the snow". Released in 2011, It is believed to be the most feminist film in North Korea. Today I investigate as to whether or not that's true. Stay tuned and subscribe for more content.
Imagine you're a kid, your parents die, you get adopted and sent to a grandma who doesn't know she's been tasked with taking care of you, then you get moved again to a factory and hard labor chopping wood in the winter. I feel like things must have been pretty bad in North Korea for this to have even been considered as a plot line, even taking into account that movies tend to be exaggerated. Like for any of that to even be a slightly plausible scenario
I love the music from the DPRK. There's something uniquely sad about most of the music that we hear coming out of the dictatorship. It's so fascinating.
Who knew that I would one day be watching reviews of North Korean Cinema. Keep it up man, you'll get more subscribers in no time.
Thank you for your support!
DING DING DING DING!! YOU'RE BACK!!

In due time 😇 stay tuned.
For starters, welcome back brother 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻, the 2nd , did you say 2011? Wow that’s my best year of my life, and didn’t know movies like this existed back then, it’s surprise that North Korea movies from early 2010s still the same as their 1980s movies. A little surprised they call this movie a feminist movie, in my opinion the traffic woman movie had more feminism in that then this one, this movie reminds me what Kim Jong Il said about what he thought of DPRK movies and I quote “the South Korean movies are like university students while we are still in the primary school “ unquote. And with this movie....yeah I can see his point, anyway, great review again, and it’s nice to see your videos again 👍🏻
Such a great video as usual!
Having the “monopoly” of something it’s not always a synonym of good quality, but your reviews of DPRKs movies are always outstanding! Keep it up!
And I have to say that I particularly appreciate the -analysis and opinion- part, if it’s difficult to find something on Koreas movies it even harder to hear somebody opinions and considerations!

This came out in 2011 huh? The same year that Kim Jong Il died.
23:43 Looks like that the husband of the Two families film finally get a vice-secretary seat in this film after abusing and neglecting his wife and son. Tbh other movies portraits better women empowerment like Comrade Kim at least she followed her dream besides almost everybody around her (most of them men) don't take her seriously, her strenght and intelligence overcome those adversities and even them the film has a few common propagandistic tropes like the idea of the uncommon person that becomes a hero. Although, the guy at 24:11 is not the doorman in that film? One thing that disturbed me is when the girl personalize her mother in the machine she used, even if they said that her mother didn't have enough time for them because of her job, this cult/fetishism with work makes me feel bad, they don't remember her mother becuase what she do for them but instead because her productiveness is so sad.
The actor your talking about is Ri Gun-Ho. He was also in Urban Girl Comes to get Married.
I highly recommend you watching "The other side of the mountain"!
Already have seen it!
@@Mary-ue5kc What kind of reviewer would I be if I haven’t seen the most obscure NK movies out there?
@@Mary-ue5kc anytime! Thanks for watching!
@@NorthKoreaUncovered good film?
I thought I was the only one who watched DPRK movies. 😂
She took my words too seriously!
Hi. Do you have a discord server by any chance?
I do not and I’ve no intention of starting one to be honest.
I like this movie but I have to admit that main character is the worst thing about this movie
Awesome channel. Subbed.
Typical tankie view of feminism: yes, women are strong and independent, but every time they get in trouble, a man has to save them.
Like seriously, how many times women get saved by men in this movie? I counted 3 times just watching this review. And that's just life-threatening situation, I didn't include the times men helped her achieve her goals, thus saving her from failure. This movie is ridiculous.
Having said that, I like the ending. I think, if the story was good, it would be touching and beautiful.
Hope you're doing well.
Hope you are well as well. Thank you for your comment 😁
