    Regarding locking wheel bolt next time thread it back into the hub a few threads then use the wrench to wiggle the locking wheel bolt loose & then throw them away lol also I would not get under that car until you have put those axle stands under the chassis & not the sills!!

  • @tonycooper6528

    Put the wheel nut back on the wheel tighten it up and it will come off easy really

    Try not to jack on the sills just in case but they are stronger being a soft top but you don't know wat its like under the body kit use the trolley jack on the cross member and back axle put it on four axle stands as high as you can get i would check under the carpets every where the escorts rust first as being a old ford there will be some for sure but you had a bargain on the racking if there is to much then sell wat you don't need

    At least the sills took the weight of being lifted. Can't wait to see your inspection of the underneath. Must be great not to be crawling around on the mud!

  • @marcduthie4327
    @marcduthie4327 Před 2 dny

    You should be able to get the trolley jack under the cross member that the ensits on. Put it right in the middle and it will jack up both sides. Same at the back. Look for something solid in the centre at the back. Your doing a great job. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺

    Also vice grips or locking pliers would have been a better choice for sump plug. Oe file it square and use an open end spanner. Have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺

    Use a ring spanner and give it a good tap with a hammer. Works well on sump plugs. The closer to the bolt head the better. You're doing an amazing job. Love watching. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺

    For future reference. The rear tow eye is located just above the right hand tail pipe. The last two inch of the hex trim insert of the bumper removes. It’s very subtle but that’s where it is.

    good work! not easy maneuvering a car with a flat tyre! you can bump it off the starter motor, just put it in gear and turn the key although you did an amazing job! get yourself a good angle grinder and lots and lots of cutting discs because you are going to need them! also invest in a welder (r-tech are very good and super helpful and will tell you everything you need to get started) so you can get your hands into learning to weld (its not that hard honest) these cars are rare these days so its well worth putting the effort in to bringing it back to life!

  • @petergrinnell2500
    @petergrinnell2500 Před 14 dny

    Well at least it's better for you to work on the escort but wait till you start stipping it down as because you going to find alot of rust behind that body kit and worse being a cabriolet should of put more air in the tyres it's not hard to move a car would of been better with a straight bar instead of a rope as the bar you got more control and better when you stop using the towing vehicles brakes but you got it done in the end 👍

    • @SentimentalCarClub
      @SentimentalCarClub Před 14 dny

      I dread to think what we'll find once we start taking the car apart - the rust is bad enough on the parts you can see! The tyre wouldn't hold air and I didn't fancy trying to jack it up again on the mud to change it, so we just got on with it. Hopefully working in the barn will yield some progress on the car 🤞🏻

    I wouldn't say you work for the BBC but at least you have some where dry and with a concrete floor as working outside is not great but you need some electric in or a good generator to room power tools so it will make working on the escort easier and safer 👍

    Not to be a downer but do you really understand what you have taken on with the escort as there is rust on the body shell and I haven’t seen underneath it. Who’s going to do all the bodywork? That jack doing that don't look good I think your going to have a big shock when you find how much rot I didn't like you being lay under that car it's dangerous as the ground you put the axle stand on is not concrete one of you going to get hurt or worse you need to take that alarm out like your dad is saying listen to nothing will happen with the engine till you take it out it's going to be a pain following them wires but nothing electrics wise matters like lights you need to stay on one and finish that you need a hanyes book on the escort will help alot 👍

    I would trace the wires from that spark right box to the wireing and see if any main wiring has been chopped about and rewire the main loom look on the box to see if there is a wire diagram on it or check the car over to see for a book as you need to check it just incase might be stopping the car from starting like stoping power to the fuel pump or stopping a spark to the plugs have you checked for a spark 🤔🤔 but check the comments as people will give you good advise to help you 👍

  • @petergrinnell2500

    You should see if you can get a hanyes work shop manual for the escort will make your life alot easier on finding problems is the electric fuel pump works first if not check the connections and give it a tap with the hammer that's if the alarm is not cutting the power to it check to see if you have power to the fuel pump 12v shock you hurt you but you should hear the fuel pump click when you turn the ignition on but it's nice of dad to help

    From memory, you need to insert the fuel cap, rotate it into position, and then turn the lock. With regard to the fuel pump, two thoughts occur. The pump may well be seized through sitting dormant with old fuel congealing, or the power supply is faulty. You could use your Dad's flying lead idea and supply power to the pump directly. This would let you know if it's the pump or the power supply. Very enjoyable video.

    On the mk3 xr3i the fuel pump relay was behind the speaker grill in the passenger footwell. If its not clicking, you can remove the outer plastic of the relay and squeeze the solenoid to make the connection. Try to start the car with the solenoid squeezed - this will then let you know if the problem is a result of the FPL or not.
