Fair play to you for having a go. 👍 good luck with it. 👌👌
Cheers! We need all the luck we can get 🤞🏻
Loving your videos I've watched them all now can't wait for more your enthusiasm is great you will get there that summer day too down flying along so come on longer videos be great
That thought is what is keeping us going! Just not sure which summer that'll be yet...
Morning guys any more updates on the car, been so cold here this last wk. More like feb hopefully it wasn't as cold for you guys. Looking forward to more updates. Roll on summer hey.
Right tool for the right job...lesson one....
Lesson two...if one dose'nt work hammer time.
Oh i'd so love to have this car sitting in the driveway and get it going. Good luck
Thank you! Hopefully one day it will run, it’s not going to be a quick process while we learn though! But it’s good fun!
Great to see someone else with a love for escorts!
The battery terminals are different sizes, so that more than likely didn't help you. It seemed like you may have put the wires on the wrong terminals.
As for undoing any stubborn nuts and bolts, I usually use a combination of oil lightly poured over the stuck part and a heat gun. Rinse and repeat until it's free, lol.
If you need any tips, then get in touch. I've done so much work on escorts and I'm sure I could give you some pointers.
We're learning as we go along, and the battery has been a frustrating one so far. Sounds like we defintely need to get some heat into the fixings we're removing as well!
We're all ears when it comes to tips and advice, so if you're happy to, please reach out - our e-mail is: thesentimentalcarclub@outlook.com
My 1987 cabby has a security gizmo. There's a slot in the dashboard that needs a little electronic key, before the car will start. Maybe it was an aftermarket thing. Glad you got the sump plug out.
We think there is some aftermarket security as there is a gadget under the bonnet, sort of halfway between the fuse box and the front of the car, but it doesn’t seem to be connected up to anything. We will have a look to see if we can see what you are describing next time (we have been to the car since we filmed this video)
Always connect the positive first on the battery then the neg. On top of the fuses are two little metal tags. you can test the fuse without taken them out. Just put your meter on these two tabs......
That would have saved so much time!! Of If I ever do it gain I will do it that way!
@@SentimentalCarClub Always pleased to pass on my knowledge. You have a new subscriber.
Make sure to have the meter in the right setting first.
On top of your new battery clamps there should be a positive or negative sign so you put the correct one on each terminal. It was hard to tell from the picture but I think you put a negative clamp on the positive terminal
Thanks for the heads up - we checked last time we were with the car and they're definitely the right way round.
Like watching the laurel and Hardy show .
😂😂😂
Just as well take the sump pan off altogether now you drained the oil and replace the sump gasget and inspect the pan itself cant be too difficult to get a replacement one of those only a few 8mm bolts to get that off.
@@SentimentalCarClub im sorry but the lady has more of an idea on all of the maintenance,,, connect positive first then negative so when you are tighning the negative your metal spanner will not earth and spark
Hi to you both, loving watching you couple tips if you don't mind flat tyre issue swop wheel for a better one at rear saves keep trying to pump it up. Why not leave it up on stands. Sump plug simple file a slot in it steering wheel torgue bolt up CZcams is a fab tool for information but your doing well on batt terminals simply swop your.red and.black battery leads for round.ones they will prob need changing anyhow I bet the leads have seen better days the earth one needs to be good. Good luck looks lot fun
Thanks for your support - glad somebody is entertained by us! We have left it up on stands now, but we thought we'd be moving the car indoors sooner so that was why we kept putting it back down. The spare wheel is an obvious one, but I'm not sure we have the locking wheel nut so that's a whole other issue! We appreciate the tips, please keep them coming x
all the things you tried work with the ignition off, turn key one more bit to get ignition on.youre on acessory position.
We were on the second position, but that was still only what it gave us
Red first, so you dont risk sparks if you catch it on anything grounded.
Looks like you have a negative terminal on the positive post.
Luckily we figured it out in time!! I know now for next time to look for the negative earth!
So that oil pan sump bolt is rounded off , i had this problem with my wifes mini. If you have a promblem like this again in the future You can buy some special sockets that are for rounded nuts i bought a set for under £20 that dig into the metal off the bolt and grips it you tap it on with a mallet , ( got a impact gun on it yes i know impact guns on oil sumps are not a great idea it can crack them if not carefull but i was undoing not tighting , so i took the risk as i was at my witts end with it ) took it straight off Obviously the bolt was knacked after but a oil sump bolt is pennys any way. I would also like to point out i would never use a impact to do the bolt up.
Yeah that sump nut was a real nightmare! We did try and use a nut removal tool, but it just wouldn't sit straight on the nut - we've had success with it in the past tho. Anway, we called in the cavalry and a mobile mechanic whipped it off in a couple of seconds - quite humbling. We definitely need an impact gun tho!
I would have had that sump nut off in 10mins a bit of heat and it would have come off.
The battery cable issue, you could have drilled those holes in the existing connections bigger and then used the new clamps.
We did consider drilling but thought we would see if we could find a part that would fit… as ever easier said than done!
Looked like there's a relay missing from the fuse box for the ignition
Ahh the second person that has said this- very interesting - we have been back since then (video not up yet) so we’ve had more issues…
Lol it was my car he set on fire! And we won't talk about what he did to my cosworth 😢
🤣🤣🤣
God this is a frustrating watch! Entertaining though ;-) Should really have connected the positive first because if you touch the body with the ridiculous tools you are using there is a risk of sparks/shorts etc with ground first.
Glad to entertain! We have never promised success but we hope to get some!! I have learned positive first, there is a lot to learn!!!!
Positive first ffs
Every day's a school day at The Sentimental Car Club...
Don't use Halfrauds. Look up motor factors, better knowledge.
And don't get me started on Euros....
Hard to watch
We appreciate your effort 😆😆😆
