    BLUF: Seven minutes worth of useful information in a 14-minute video. Almost the entire second half of this video is an off-camera, stream-of-consciousness monologue, accompanied by an unblinking shot of a motionless gel block. I kept watching and hoping he would get back on topic, but he never did. I know I’m gonna get flamed for not listening to my mother (“if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all”), and I also know that I sometimes ramble myself, so let me offer some constructive criticism: Don’t ever NOT edit a video before posting it. Most of your audience probably does not need to know how long it has been since you last carried a revolver, why you carried it that day, what else you might have carried, or what clothes you were wearing and why. I am a bit obsessive (could you tell?), but most people don’t want to watch a five-minute shot of a motionless gel block either. Editing is what separates good videos from not-so-good ones, and it keeps your focus sharp. Aim for the 10 ring!

    I was wondering if you tested anything for in 45 cold that you would use for hunting out of a rifle? I do cowboy action shooting. I load my own but it’s all lead. Have you heard of one called a deer Grenade? I saw some online. Would you test anything like that. Love your videos. I just found your channel and subscribed.

    I've reloaded and tested 44special for 30 + years with loads 180gr up to 300gr. my self defense loads are 180gr xtp cronygraphed 1050 to1100 fps right there with buffalo bore ammunition. this bullet wonderful expansion on deer sized game and outher creatures. I've reloaded the 180gr xtp from 850 to 1500fps getting wonderful expansion and devastating vital area damage. with a three inch barrel 44special i would reloaded 255gr hard cast flat face or lswc at 900fps for possibly encounters with wild hogs and black bear . papa wishing you well 😊

    If you calibrate that gel, you will find its less dense than fbi gel. Lots of people have said and demonstrated it. The fbi also says they shoot at 70deg. Outside you will find its almost always hotter in the direct sunlight, this makes it less dense too. Get you a crossman 760 to calibrate your gel.

  • @PhuVet
    @PhuVet Před 15 dny

    People dont like to hear it but the 44spl and is my favorite round but its 150-200fps more than a 45acp. With a smaller bullet Most 44spl loads are further handicapped because they load old hardcast solids that dont take advantage of modern bullet construction. Skeeter and guys like that swore by those bullets because they were all they had. The solid copper Extreme expander or penetrator would blow their minds, they hadnt even thought about fluted bullets or multipart bonded bullets.

    Thank you very much for actually testing 45 Colt, love your videos. The original Army Colt 45 load was 255 grains sitting on top of 40 grains of black powder. This was going at 900-1000fps. It definitely seems like the wide majority of 45C loads are nerfed significantly.

    • @tacticalheretic9105
      @tacticalheretic9105 Před 21 dnem

      Agreed. I read a lot about factory loads being loaded light in deference to older guns, but it was always my understanding the original loads were quite potent.

      @@tacticalheretic9105 It truly is a shame. I am not sure if you reload yourself but the stopping/power potential of 45 Colt is amazing when it’s not being nerfed to hell and back.

  • @johnnymccann5607
    @johnnymccann5607 Před 25 dny

    the reason is this ammunition is loaded at speed for old colts and reproductions/ clones.reload the same bullets 900 fps in your strong smith big difference. plus loading the serria jacketed hollow cavity is a very destructive bullet. I've reloaded serria pistol and rifle bullets off and on 40 +years among outher brands. if I were loading 45colt self defense rounds I would use serria 180 gr jhc .without looking in my reload manuals I think it can be loaded around 1100fps just look at your primers for flatting .then back down. I'm loading hornady 185gr xtp 1100_ 1150 fps with awesome expansion in water jug tests. .my 44special 3in barrel with 180gr xtp at 1050_1100 fps gets wonderful expansion. devastating on live game. according to the powder you use you might bump your 45colt up to 1150_ 1200fps with minimum primer flattening. that's if you reload. of course stair stepping your charges up.checking primers each step. I greatly enjoyed the video. Papa wishing you well 😊

      You're quite welcome. Smith still makes them but only with 6 inch barrels and, yeah, pricey. I got mine used in 1994 for, I want to say, something like $450-ish. Mine originally had an 8 3/8 inch barrel but I had it cut down to 4, which was one of the best decisions I ever made.

    The hollow point feature on the Big Bore ammo is like the lure that's marketed to catch the fisherman. Tyros: "oOooOh sHinY hoLloW pOIntT!" Get hold of some revo-caliber carbines and re-test the .357, .44 and .45C BBs, and for cryin' out loud put a bundle of "high tech fleece" behind your gel.

  • @edbecka233
    @edbecka233 Před 2 měsíci

    I suggest you invest in a large/long surgical hemostat - you'll do a lot less butchery of your gel block. Typically, it's poke, grab, pull without all that slicing & hacking.

      I think the Barnes Vor-Tx is pretty good. A lot of them seem to do reasonably well until they get to that denim. I'm kicking myself for not having something to catch these because I'm curious as to why that would interfere with something like a flex tip.

    That's pretty anemic for a 185gr, when you get around 850 with a 250gr at normal pressures. The 3rd and 4th shots were tumbling, and probably didn't expand.

    here in the foothills of the blue ridge mountains in NC we are blessed that during or rifle deer hunting season you use any pistols and revolvers, no minimum calibers, no minimum barrel lengths. what better way than live legal game to test your self defense ammunition. for 45 years I've hunted, reloaded many, many pistol and rifles testing with water jugs. the expansion of the bullets from water i found around 98 percent in retrieved bullets from live game. so if i want expansion and don't achieve it i don't load it for self defense or hunting. the water jug tests has proven its self to me all these years. outher reloaders may differ in opinion. papa wishing you well 😊
