  • Post script: I also chronographed these loads out of a Uberti Single Action Army revolver with a 7.5 inch barrel and actually lost velocity.

The deformation in the jelly is when the bullet tumbled. Although the bullet didn't expand do to low velocity. Due to the thumbing, In a self defense situation, the threat would have been neutralized.
(Because of all the old Black Powder 19 th Century revolvers, still floating around. Lot of loaders of 45 Colt, won't load them to high velocities. Because they are scared of legal liability problems.)

Ammo is tested in a 16 inch barrel. You get lower velocities in the shorter handgun barrel.

Maybe Grizzly ran it from a carbine 😂. That's unacceptable for velocity to deviate so much from advertised. Was thinking of getting some of these. Not anymore, thanks to your testing. Thanks for taking the time to run these tests and produce the videos.

Hi, thank you for these tests with the 45 colt. I also keep a 45 colt s&w mountain gun by the bedside.

Barrel length has a bearing on velocity so to compare yours to manufacturer, verify barrel length.

Grizzly doesn't say. Unfortunately, a lot of manufacturers don't.

Standard 45 colt just dont move fast enough to expand reliable from a pistol. Need to be at least 1000, 1100 fps for expansion. What sucks is the manufacturers know this but still stick it in a load thats doing 850fps and then charge you an arm and a leg for it. Best defense load would be a wfn type with gas check made out of pure lead , no jacket.

as a reloader and rifleman/ hunter over 44years in many calibers i find for larger calibers 44- 45 250_ 255 gr cast lead like gt bullets wide deep hollow point devastating at 925- 950 fps. in my Taurus pt845 in 45acp+ p 13 shot i use these loads getting a hair shy of 7/ 8 in expansion and retaining 244- 246 gr.

the 45 acp+ p 250 - 255 gr loads with gt bullets I forgot to say I use 45super brass with no modifications my fire arm ,no pressure signs, but some semi auto pistols might need supported barrels, heavier recoil springs to slow down cycle speed to not beat gun up. , buffalo bore s adviserti 45 super speed with 255 hc - swc is 1050 fps or close . my records show I loaded the g t 255 gr at 933 - 973 fps with no issues. I bought a new rossi brawler 45colt, 410 And working up loads.next loads will be 250 grain hunter supply 250 cast lrnhp and 250gr xtp with 2400 powder 15.4gr 972 fps and 526ft/lb and 4227powder 19.0 gr.at 994 fps at549ft/lb. most of my testing the 45 colt in the rossi 45/ 410 single shot are running 69- 100fps per test bullets and groups. I also reload 45acp for it.this older man just Wanted to share information with you. I greatly enjoy your videos.papa wishing you well. 😊

I have thier hardcast. Not expecting expansion from standard 45lc out of a revolver.

With 45 ACP and 45 Colt, HPs are unnecessary. Just go for deep penetration with 200 gr to 300 gr LRN, LSWC, and RNFP bullets. Keep recoil low to maintain rapid fire accuracy with velocities btwn 750 and 850 fps. You'll get plenty of penetration.

I have the same revolver. It's a Smith and Wesson 25-5. They haven't been made for decades and you can expect to -pay a premium price. I believe Ruger currently makes a .45 Colt on the Redhawk frame.

That’s really awful. Be better off using the typical “cowboy” lead loads.
