It is genuinely scary, especially when you wear headphones and play it offline (so the levels are not cluttered with indicative messages and player bloodstains). You can get a true horror experience if you want, it's how I did my first playthrough and it was phenomenal.

The loathsome dung eater is one of if not the most slasher killer in fromsofts catalogue, he’s like someone you’d find in dead by daylight, and the body horror in this game is almost silent hill esq at times, like volcano manor especially

One aspect of Elden Ring I love is that you can play through and do Rannis quest and have this idea of the game about stars and waifus, all while never meeting the character named the Dung Eater who curses people and their children and their childrens children by...eating uh...whats under the bloody cloth. And then getting his ending. I think Elden Ring has a lot of existential horror as well dealing with the afterlife and the soul and things like the weight of an individual in comparison to thousands of years. In the end, I think the game is a sort of koan. At least personally, as I pour over the lore I often end up thinking about my own place in the universe and on earth. If an Erdtree falls and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

Finding out in the DLC how living jars are made was also quite the horror element.

come and see 1985 is a horror movie, yes it's an anti war movie, but between the acting the cinematography and what the films shows it's beyond a shame not a lot of people know about it.

The pressure with the wardens and the sounds of the inmates some of whom are blue baby monsters who are hanging from the walls in the dungeon is masterful, and so are the slow walking pontiff knights and the eyes in the dark waiting for their shot to kill you with magic.

After playing the dlc the lore kinda disappointing if im being honest especially the ending

This aged like fine wine, miquella is worse then we ever could have imagined. Guy straight up used everyone who got close to. He lusted after Radahn so bad that he sent his sister to corrupt him, all so he could harvest Radahn's soul later. He literally mind controlled Mohg to help him get into the land of shadow, then stole his body only to stuff Radahn's stolen soul into it. He tormented then cast aside Trina, arguably his better half who actually was the one who cared for people. Leaving her to wither and suffer alone in a poisonous prison at the arse end of the lands of shadow. Even his sister who he supposedly loved, he used her just to set him up with the man he desired. He gave absolutely no care to what would happen in said conflict, the lives of the millions lost if his sister lost. Not to mention he seemed to not give much care if his sister even lived, so long as Radahn was ripe for harvest when the empyrean wished. Miquella is all the worst parts of his mother, without any if the redeeming qualities of his father. He is a bloody monster.
