My ancestor William Ellery was one of the signers of the declaration of Independence from Rhode Island. When the British occupied Newport they burnt down his house and business. William Ellery was the customs collector at Newport for thirty years until his death in 1820. He was also a staunch abolitionist and also served a few years on the Rhode Island supreme court.

I hope you make one on the formation of Virginia, and those who made her a Commonwealth. My great x's9th grandfather came through Jamestown, around 1650, settling in what is now, Brunswick County. I'm unsure of how the unincorporated town, bearing my maiden name came about, or the town next to it, bearing my father, and son's middle names, but would like to find out more.

The HOF is nothing more than a biased popularity contest, inducting many bands that don't even play rock. One example is the obvious and purposeful banning of Blue Öyster Cult from the hall. They were monsters during the 70's, selling out arena's and headlining shows for years. They're one of America's best rock bands, still touring today!

We had a park like Euclid Beach down in New Orleans... Pontchartrain Beach, and Lincoln Beach for the non caucasians. Both are long since closed. We arrived in Cleveland in 1912, went back to Italy, and returned to Cleveland in 1924. We left Cleveland in 1964, 6 months before I was born. I came to Cleveland in 1985 to see about a sick relative who lived in the Condos on Green Road. One of her neighbors told me to take the Red line train from Hopkins to Windermere... that was an education. The sweet lady train driver was beside herself with me being there by myself at 0200am.. she stayed there an hour while I tried to get a taxi... NONE would come. She finally got a CPD unit to give me a ride. I was a Deputy at the time and brought "rosco" with me. The CPD said it wouldn't have done me much good in Windermere. The Sergeant gave me his card and told me to carry it until I was ready to get on the plane back home😂 Grandfather was an architect/artist and some of his work still remains. St. Wendelin's Catholic church for one.

Thank-you for a great history of the Flats. I would as others have asked to see more of this nature. I went to Case Western Reserve a VERY long time ago, and only been back once. As you can see, I continue to be fascinated by Cleveland and its rich history. BTW-have you ever considered walking tours of Cleveland.

Wonderful! Thank you. I really learned a lot about the WHOLE history of Newport and not only about the 'Gilded Age'. I especially enjoyed the first 'cottages' that were built from wealthy plantation owners before the gilded age industrialists.

Cleveland Heights is still a good neighborhood. Except for certain parts.

It's nice but getting worse. Too many people and Leno, Oracle, NBC, the CIA are taking over and turning it into police state and taking away people's rights slowly. Leno pays off corrupt police officers and there are all sorts of Scientology criminals here, which adds unsavory elements to our fair village.

I used to manage Club Aqua on Scranton . The building used to be Jims Steakhouse . The Mob controlled it prior to the club opening and when I when I was having the credit card machines hooked up we discovered there were 27 separate phone lines coming into the building .
