    While Honda’s hand guards look nice they are pretty flimsy for the money. I bought the JFG Hand guards from Amazon. Give good protection and are structurally sound with two points of contact to the handle bars protecting levers and your hands. Well made and worth the money at $35.

    I'll give you another tip on the carburetor. I ran dirt bikes with carbs for years. I taught my boys when they were done riding to shut off the gas (pet cock valve) and let the engine run until it died. That burns out all the gas in the bowl of the carburetor and prevents the varnish type build up that happens when gasoline sits in a carb. Hope the bike is a lot of fun for you. I've considered picking one of these up. They look fun.

    I did this 2 days ago on my 2017 AT DCT with 3700 miles and I broke 2 screws on one of the pipes. I stopped the second one because it was more difficult to remove. I put it back with just the one screw for now. I think if I try to remove the other pipe more bolts will be broken. For the record, there was almost no dirt in the spark arrest.

      Same reason they didn`t make it a 500 or 750 or 10000. It is a 150. They make any size you want. This just happens to be a 150 cc bike. Third world countries are not about large displacement bikes. This bike is mainly for that venue. Happy to have smaller bikes offered in the states that fit adults.

    I got this bike a couple weeks ago. I agree with your tips. I`ve had about 20 bikes since `70 and never turned the gas off before. I don`t understand why this carb would need that but it may be true.

      vacuum petcocks don`t require you to turn off fuel. Maybe for long term storage you might consider. The engine vacuum actually opens the petcock in the run position.

    • @bempey
      @bempey Před 2 měsíci

      I just got my new XR150L home yesterday. I haven't had a bike with carbs for ... 15 years, maybe. (And it has 4), so I have to re-learn. Let me give you 3 reasons to turn off the gas: 1. If you're transporting the bike in a truck, trailer, RV, etc then l less will spill from the carb (limiting losses) 2. If these have a float bowl, and needle and seat, you can leave the gas on if the needle makes a perfect seal against the seat at the fuel inlet. But for the 99.999% of cheap Chinese carbs where the seal isn't perfect, the gas pulled down by gravity will fill the carb to the level of the lowest drain, and then it will run out until the tank is empty. On many bikes, they overflow into the engine. Not a huge deal on a 2 stroke, but you can imagine what riding a bike with a pint of gas in the oil will do to your engine life. #3 is the most important: if some bike-stealing punks manage to hot wire your bike and ride away, they won't get far. Once the carb runs dry the bike stops. It's more reliable than On-Star!

    @1122redbird Před 3 měsíci

    Great video review. Love the bike, very old school, low tech, no nonsense. The rear brake is fine for a bike like this, use the front mostly and engine brake. Stomp that rear brake in the dirt if you want to skid. Not a lot of power but I like that, you can ride it hard and aggressive and it's not going to rocket you off the bike unless you are really careless. Agree on the footpegs, but that's no big deal to replace those. They made this bike for comfort and general functionality, it really does a little of everything. Not a performance machine but an all around fun utility bike. Got 2200 miles on mine and have enjoyed it thoroughly.

    Couple of points: o-rings etc are used on motorcycle chains to seal the grease in where the link pins pass through the bushings. If you look carefully you can see the o-rings are located between the inner and outer side plates of the chain where the link pins pass through the bushing. The chain rollers are fitted over the bushings between the inner side plates and are free to move on the outer surface of the bushings. These rollers need lubricating to give maximum life to the chain and reduce wear on the sprocket. Some o-ring chain manufacturers say don't use kerosene, some say do. Some motorcycle manufacturer's workshop manuals and owners hand books also recommend the use of kerosene for cleaning. I have yet to see any evidence that paraffin/kerosene damages chain o-rings.

    • @bikerforlife5222
      @bikerforlife5222 Před 3 měsíci

      Word for word from my 2023 Honda XR150 owners manual: Do not use a steam cleaner, a high pressure cleaner, volatile solvents such as gasoline and benzene, abrasive cleaner, chain cleaner, or lubricant NOT designed specifically for O-ring chains as these can damage O-ring seals. If you use a chain brush and the same soapy water you clean the bike with, your chain will look like new, as I mentioned in the video. A quick spay after it dries with lubricant should keep the chain happy for a long time. I currently have almost 20k miles on my AT and the chain and sprockets are still like new. Bottom line, do what you want. It's your money

    • @motophoenix5951
      @motophoenix5951 Před 3 měsíci

      @@bikerforlife5222 I have no doubt about what you say it says in your Honda owners manual. My new NX500 owner’s manual tells me to use chain cleaner and makes no mention of kerosene. My Suzuki factory shop manual says use kerosene. Who ya gonna call? 🤔 I’m tempted to take some o-rings from a new chain and experiment with them. It would in no way provide a definitive answer, but it would be interesting to see what happens.

    I had to laugh when you said take it to the dealer to adjust the clutch. Reason being is they jacked up my bike with a $400 dealer mark up and the sales guy said it was basically an assembly fee. Then the guy who does all the legal paperwork and tries to sell you the extended warranty and maintenance program laughed when I said I don't need that because I'm 61 and this is a small bore Honda that will outlive me and I know how to do my own maintenance. With that said I took the bike home in my truck w/out riding it at the dealership. When I did ride it the first time my throttle free play was over 1/2 inch when it was supposed to be 1/8-1/4 and my clutch and rear brake were also out of adjustment. Then the first time I oiled and checked my chain I notice the rear wheel wasn't even lined up straight. The only thing I'll go to the dealer for is the oil and whatever other parts I might need. At 1300+ miles I am loving the bike though. Good tips.

Kerosene is incapable of popping a party baloon and you think it will damage the orings?😂😂😂. Second: I can show you my yamaha manual where you can see in black letters how they recommend kerosene as cleaner and 50w oil as lubricant on O-RING chain(but I guess you are smarter than those idiots that designed the motorcycle). Third: nobody ever had problem using kerosene to clean chains and there are some bikes with 30 000 kms on chain that only saw kerosene. One might wonder where you get all your information?
