The Last Voyage of the Demeter - Green Takes
I made the horrible mistake of watching this movie as a pre-teen and I now blame it for most of what I now find attractive. Hot guys in overalls, hot butch ladies, hot musician ladies, and Rick Moranis. The 80s was rough on everyone’s sexual taste.
The bit in the beginning where he cut his finger, stared at it, and then put it in his mouth was weird too. It was done for the ending symmetry, but it felt very unnatural the first time I saw it - wouldn't a human's instict be to put an injured finger in their mouth first, and only then look to see how bad it is?
It's interesting how you describe Brian Cox as "like Dracula" because I really feel like his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter influenced Claes Bang's performance as Dracula in the 2020 mini series of Dracula (which I'd love to see you guys discuss, I think you'd have strong mixed feelings haha)
Is it just me or does Reid sort of look like Aaron without glasses...?
It’s because I’m also super tall like Aaron…
Really enjoyed your views on creep, excited to see the future conversations you have! Quick question, what are both of your favourite horror movies? 😊
Reid here! It’s hard to pick just one, but one of my favourite movies of all time, not just including horror, is Bone Tomahawk. But to be honest I’d be hard pressed to not come up with 20 movies for this question. Thanks for checking out the channel and welcome!
Avery here! Oculus, Krampus, You're Next, and maybe a good ol' Saw joint from time to time
@greencornerfilm thanks guys for your answers, I always think finding out people's fav horrors is super interesting! Excited as always to watch your future vids 😁
great video!
Hellll yes guys this was awesome! Love this movie and I’m glad to see you guys tackle other smaller horror film (Also would you guys ever consider talking about Mandy or Possum?)
Mandy I (Reid) have seen and loved. Would certainly suit the show if we found a time. Possum I’ve seen a lot about, but it seems like a hard movie to want to throw on… I know it’s supposed to be pretty upsetting and heavy. I’m sure I’ll get to it at some point though.
@@greencornerfilm possum is definitely a tough watch that is for sure. Looking forward to the creep 2 discussion! I actually saw that movie first which made seeing the first one very interesting haha
Really interested discussion
Keep up the great work guys. Be the next Red Letter Media 😁👍. Maybe review current controversial movies to get more followers first?
Thank you! We obviously love and have been inspired by their stuff so we appreciate the comparison. Our approach is generally to talk about stuff that genuinely interests us, and hope that shines through in the content. It might mean we grow slower than if we covered more trending topics, but oh well.
the scene of Joseph in the tub pretending to bathe his son makes me cringe so hard every time, I have to skip it 💀
In Japan their spooky season is in the summer because of their history with spirits. I think the spirits arr supposed to be more active in the summer or something.
Sounds like Japan is down for spooky season starting in June. Vindication!
I'm loving this June Spooky Horror Season business
I know where you live
Nice try Mark Duplass
Aw, I wish you both liked it. I really like the Creep films. So unique and uncomfortable
I think Avery was coming around by the end 🌝
Woo! First one here. This movie was hilariously creepy. It’s tubby time.
**spoilers for hell house 2 and 3 included in my comment Avery’s 3rd theory about the cornfield scene is actually not too far off from the truth in my opinion. although it’s true that alex had a lot waging on hell house and they were essentially broke and were counting on the ticket sales for the abbadon haunt , it’s also revealed that the person alex spoke to about the hotel was andrew tully so essentially he almost did make a deal with the devil. might not have been a purposeful deal with the devil but a deal nonetheless
i also get strong Brazil vibes with Joe vs the Volcano. Would LOVE you guys to dive deep into Under the Skin
Please rewatch this on shudder, ready to pause. There's loads of easter eggs on second watch mostly with the hosts wife popping up in monitors, in the stop watch on the table before the worm scene. I've seen this 3 times now and I'm still not sure I've spotted all the times she pops back up. I think you'd both appreciate seeing these 😊
Heard about this after the fact and will definetly look for it on future watches. Everyone loves a hidden ghost.
I absolutely loved this video and have just subscribed. I couldn't agree more with everything you're saying. I watched Hell House LLC a while ago not expecting much, but now it's an annual must rewatch for me. I still wake up some nights now and look round my room just to make sure a ghost or clown isn't there! Great channel guys!
There’s a great interview with the director on the ‘Movie Mindset’ podcast. Great insight in to how he made it.
Good shout. We’ll check that out.
It feels more like a live action Felix the cat cartoon or those really early black and white only cartoons, rather than a modern Charlie Chaplin
Got to see this in theaters. It was wonderful. Regret my social anxiety stopping me from talking with the creator who was there -.- damn you my cowardice. To me it was a very special experience growing up on these types of movies etc. I want to rant about it but I gotta go to work.
This is a creator I’d actually really like to speak to. Would be so cool to hear his approach and thought process for something so unique.
@greencornerfilm He seemed really cool he eve fought one of the Beavers after the showing during a Q and A . Still kicking myself for not talking to him after but got some interesting tid bits from the Q and A.
i had the opportunity to watch hundreds of beavers in a historic independent theater with a full house. felt like how i assume it felt to watch black and white silent comedies back in the day. i agree the first bit is really slow, but it's so worth it for the ramp up to sweep you away. everything in each scene is planned out so meticulously, it's incredible. they deserve an oscar for the best use of a 2 man horse costume in a movie for sure.
That’s awesome sounds like a great experience. Would be a very different vibe in theatres.
Clearly I'm desensitized cause this movie didn't bother me at all lol I just thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree that it was well done and felt fresh. I've watched it 5 times already lol
Ya... or it could be that we are just big babies.
Good review👍
RLM better watch out!
Stop you’ll make us blush!
can confirm i was possessed to free trial shudder to watch this movie to watch this green take and maybe i'll even stay subscribed if shudder sponsers you (if any shudder employees are reading) (which i'm telepathically possessing them to do)
Oh no! I can feel the possession! I’m clicking on subscribe to Shudder now and can’t stop if it tried!
Happy birthday!
I Only Lasted 20 minutes but I'll persevere on your recommendation.
Hey it’s not for everyone! Very real potential that you just won’t like it and that’s okay. Definetly a unique experience.
@@greencornerfilm it's definitely growing on me but it could really use more musical numbers.
@@greencornerfilm by the end it was a lot of fun , I don't regret watching it and would like to see more from whoever made this.
@mrdozey7361 sounds like you ended up in the exact same spot as me (Reid)! Looking forward to see what they do next.
@@greencornerfilm and a belated Happy Birthday to you.
Keep doing your thing guys! Just discovered your channel and im a horror lover! Here to support.
Thank you so much, and welcome to the channel. We haven’t officially teased it yet, but our next Deep Dive will be back to found footage horror…
Avery is James McAvoy levels of shmexy! Well done, sir!
I LOVED the whole series of Hell House. Especially because it really does end up building a much more in depth story and explains everything that happened without overexplaining stuff. Ive seen the first one probably too many times? It's like a comfort movie especially around Halloween. Great review.
Same!
This guy's accent was dropped half way through this flick. Made it disappointing to watch his performance.
Drag Me To Hell still has his comedy style. Evil Dead 2 isn't just horror comedy, it put horror comedy on the map, but the type of comedy is, is quite different than what you would expect from comedy horror, so I wouldn't write it off. Evil Dead 1 is trying to be horror though. The comment about it being an anime tournament arc is really interesting because Trigun had a quick draw competition episode.
I'm filled with a rage I've never felt before, your horror pass has been revoked, incinerated, and buried. Absolute slander. 🤨
I’ll make it up to you Scott Reacher I promise!
Man this is like all the stuff I really enjoy about half in the bag without the filler. Best of luck to your channel guys, keep up the great work! I just had you guys pop up on my recommendations today and I’ll definitely be spreading the word
That means a lot! They are a huge influence on us (obviously), so the comparison is very much appreciated. Welcome to the channel!
This guy, Not liking the Pizza time spiderman movies is making it very difficult to watch this video lol
I love Sam Rami and love this movie... totally didn't realize this was one of his. No sex involved in Crowe and Hackmen. He wanted to prove he was faster and better. You might have some issues if that is the reading you got.
So apparently there was a sex scene filmed and it was even included in the international release, but was cut from the US version. I agree it was not the vibe, I even thought at one point they may be long lost siblings.
@greencornerfilm siblings might be a neat idea. But this is just leaning heavy on the troupe of old envious of young
He co directed holy grail with the other Terry, and didn’t direct life of Brian, or any of the other Python movies. That was the other Terry, Terry Jones, gotta give the Welsh boys some props! Anyway great chat! Subbing now!
So many Terry’s! Appreciate the clarification. We never want to short-change a Welshman.
@@greencornerfilm glad to hear it! 👍😂
I remember watching this movie with my dad when I was like 10. Started my love for westerns and it’s still my favorite because of how rewatchable it is
This might be “I watched this movie with my dad” movie to end all “I watched this movie with my dad” movies
I was disappointed Sharon Stone didn't get naked. That lady loved getting naked on camera. She was naked in almost every movie she had ever been in.
Hell yeah! Great underrated gem
Forgotten by who, exactly? It has Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio in it. But I guess your generation finds it impossible to believe that anything existed prior to the Obama Administration.
Yo relax
Who is Obama?
I can't imagine watching Army of Darkness without Evil Dead 2! Fyi if it takes some pressure off, you kinda only need to watch ED2, since it's pretty much the final draft of Evil Dead rather than a sequel.
Maybe this Halloween is finally the time to do ED2.
nice one guys
nice!!! I would like to recommend Bone Tomahawk or Under the Skin - both very good and original
Reid here! Bone Tomahawk might unironically be my favourite movie of all time… so that is a quality recommendation.
You list anime with tournament arcs and dont mention YuYu Hakusho. C'mon brother! but for real, I enjoy what yall do. Thanks for introducing me to another film I wasn't familiar with. Keep up the good work!
We are by no means anime afficionado’s… to be honest I’m impressed Avery knew as much as he did.
Fantastic film on all fronts. Great discussion.
If tou feel inclined, Bubba Ho-tep was directed by Don Coscarelli, has phantasm actor cameos, and stars Bruce Campbell as Elvis Presley in a nursing home fighting a Mummy
Wow. That is not a sentence I expected to read today. Good heads up.
Hell House has a decent following, that's why there's 3 sequels. The follow ups are garbage but the original is a great example of what can be accomplished with a limited budget
