The movie was incredibly disappointing. Walken as the emperor added nothing to a role that was so well hyped in the first film. The Harkonnen come off as pushovers this time. So do the Sardaukar. The romance falls flat. They use the same ‘kill your own people to show you’re the bad guy’ contrivance SEVEN TIMES. The film is both meandering and rushed. People are so starved for quality cinema, they’ll treat mediocrity like brilliance.

I think this is actually a film that’s not much about its story or its characters, but rather about how we see, and how what we see is mediated by the many layers of people between an event and our understanding. It’s about journalism, photojournalism, and the generations that keep the practice alive. Above anything else, I think the story is about Lee handing the baton to her eager protege, while simultaneously questioning the nature of the baton itself. The character arc wasn’t in any individual character, but rather in the young photographer taking on Lee’s role in the world. I’m bad with names. I can’t remember the young photographer character’s name ;)

Think of it as a modern day Easy Rider parable; a road trip type movie with alternatiing moments of beauty, grace and introspection, punctuated by scenarios of sheer terror and ultra-violence. Like Easy Rider, you either got it or you didn't. Personally, it goes into my Top 250 films ever made. The sound design is incredible. This movie will haunt you for days and weeks to come, as you mull over each montage and vignette, wondering about it's irony and the what-if scenarios...saw it in IMAX, which I recommend if you are going to see it once. I'm going back for a second viewing in Dolby this week, to catch any of the nuances I may have missed...

I whole heartedly disageree with pretty much everything you said. the sound track and audio in general is beautiful and perfectly captures the enviorment. the way you talk about the shots and how well you fell into the world make it seem to me that you liked it but didnt fully grasp the whole concept of the movie. when you talk about the archatype of the vioyage and return you mention that the character uses his new found knowledge to bring good. when herbert wrote this book he was making a statement about the messiah figure as a whole and showing that it doesnt really bring good. you can see this in the whole theme of him not wanting to comply with the propaganda of the bene gesserit and in his visions of seeing a holy war fought in his name and in zendayas character that acts as a sort of protaganist to the new paul who is now the Muad'Dib. herbert famously got mad when the book was released and people said paul was a hero. when you talk about the first half of the movie being slow and falling flat with lingering shots that at nothing but screen time I find a couple of problems with that. I firstly think that if you want to say how well you felt the world incapsulated you and how real it felt you cant turn around and get mad at the lingering shots. the mood shots and thos litlle moments are what make the atmoshpere. if you cant see the enviorment or how they walk and what different times of day look like and without really hearing it which i think the film did wonderfully you cant have the movie feel real and fully enthralling. i also thought the jokes hit pretty well, not super funny but realistic dialouge with some comic relife. i also think that if thought it felt like you were watching a counsol meeting and boring I just think that u have brainrot mind becasue its like a huge part of dune that polotics and the balance of power and the stale agression of no one wanting to step out of line but everyone wanting to essend power is very intersting and portayed fairly elequently in the brutish nature of their current politic scene. your problem with the rapid change of stilgar in the movie and how the fremmen seem to laugh at him at one point and then quickly follow him seem to me that you just didnt really get it. you have to remeber the that there is northern freman who seem to be mainly secular and the fundamentalists freman in the south, I think this is where your getting confused becasue zendaya's people from the north dont beleive in the lasan al gaib so they dont eccept him and seem more mean while the southern freman start out thinking hes a false proffit laughing and such but throughout the movie he fufils the profecy and you can see a final switch which is jarring but purposeful when paul drinks the water of life and survives fufiling the profecy and at the same time signafing his switch to control the freman to plot his revenge. the "mouf full of sick" part just seems like your grasping at things and she is also pregnant so thats probably the reason for it. when you say that it lacked drama and you felt it hard to care about what was going on with "nothing at stake" it look to me that your just trying to be above it all. Like I mean come on how can you say there nothing at stake, hes literaly fufiling a proficy while posibly becoming the Kwisatz Haderach while simultaneously making a pkay for the highest throne, simply a stupid take. all in all i think your either stupid or you just dindt want to like the movie i dont see how you came to really any of these conclusions. but im just a bruh on youtube so dont take it seriously good video to, very well made.

Blending the theme from Part 1 perfectly in with an all new sound that nearly perfectly signifies the mysticism of Muad'Dib as he takes hold of the Fremen culture. Sorry bro, you're just wrong.

It is in no means a bad film. Villeneuve famously prefers image over dialog and he definitely succeeds with that in both film parts. I agree with some of your character criticisms in Part 2 but that's mostly minor. I think I slightly preferred Part 1 because it was more of a blank canvas. But I liked Part 2, and will go on to see Messiah if he makes it.
