  • This movie review provides an in-depth analysis of director Ridley Scott's new historical drama. Joaquin Phoenix stars as the titular French leader, Napoleon, with Vanessa Kirby as his wife, in Scott's lavish yet uneven biopic.

Napolean rose to power in his 20's. Phoenix is 49. Fvk 0ff already.

Sorry, this movie is definitely a fail. No movie could be completely accurate, but Ridley Scott cared nothing about history, and I doubt he has much knowledge of history of that period in the first place. The film told the viewer that Napoleon's own generals forced him to abdicate because he lost so many men in the Russia! You ask any schoolboy what happened to Napoleon after the retreat from Moscow, and he can give you a better answer than the film did.

Ridley Scott can make good movies or terrible ones. I think Napoleon was firmly on the latter side. It was boring as hell. And why the hell is everything in his movie always tinged blue? And to portray that Napoleon's actions were guided by his twisted love of an unfaithful wife, or that he was so pathetic that he knew about her cheating and couldn't bring himself to separate from her or punish her in any way is ridiculous. It just comes across as an attempt to smear a historical figure that he as a Brit likely does not like.

of course the British will make a clown Napoleon movie, thats why they hired Phoenix in the first place, Ridley was giving lots of interviews about his love for "Joker"

Sorry to disagree, but thats just opinion. I think, this movie is a complete mess. In any way, historic inaccurate and potraying 'Le Empereur" as a lovesick geek. Nevertheless, I dont understand your low rate of subscribers, because you found your views well, but I am more in historical accuracy. ;-)

Such a poor film and probably the biggest wage of potential in years. Rushed, highly inaccurate, washed out and grey and very odd acting choices. Such a shame :(

yeah I can't believe they are making a sequel to it. And of course, with Denzel Washington who will undoubtedly be carthaginian or egyptian, just to push the idea that all african civilizations are black or at least filled with black people.

There is no comprehension in the movie it’s more a chronological timelap. Waterloo is not portrayed well, where is Hougemont, one of the three fortified strongholds who where decisive in the battle, I see none of this. The relationship with his wife takes half the movie way too long my opinion and the could have shown more battlescènes. Borodino 2 min and Leipzig not even mentioned.

Doesn't sound like we watched the same movie.
The movie I saw had an uncharismatic, simpering, annoying person masquerading as Napoleon Bonaparte. Watching the movie with the sound off might have made it more enjoyable for me. I have no idea how to react to your review. It sounds like it's trying to be honest, but it apologizes or tries to handwave Scott's directorial decisions. Phoenix's performance makes no sense; how can I believe this man is a leader?

This was an absolute trash movie. One of the worst historical dramas out there. Not remotely close to doing napoleon and his epic life credit

I'm sorry this movie was doomed from the start. You shouldn't have a British film Maker. Make a film about Napoleon. That's like having the state of Israel make a film about Hitler. It just won't work.

Historically inaccurate that’s ok if you have a statement to make. Wody Allen and Enzo castallari made fun of Napoleon, Marlon Brandon a man who knows his destiny… what was Scott telling ? do you shoot epic battles to make people laugh ? did he want to make a feminist movie ? Mary Queen of scots although inaccurate does it ten fold better.
There were/are so many angles to shoot Napoleon’s life and era I reckon Scot took the easiest more fashionable way : psyhologizing the man. No risk taking, no politics ! Just cashing in $$$$
    Disgusting 🤢
On the other hand, what would expect from a guy who ruined his own heritage, Alien: prometheus is dumb and dumber than Evolution…🤔😵‍💫
