    As I watched this video, I began to question whether we watched the same movie. I disagree with almost every single thing said here.
    It’s fair to criticize the first half of the movie, but more for being disjointed and unclear about jumps in time. Not for being meandering.

    I whole heartedly disageree with pretty much everything you said. the sound track and audio in general is beautiful and perfectly captures the enviorment. the way you talk about the shots and how well you fell into the world make it seem to me that you liked it but didnt fully grasp the whole concept of the movie. when you talk about the archatype of the vioyage and return you mention that the character uses his new found knowledge to bring good. when herbert wrote this book he was making a statement about the messiah figure as a whole and showing that it doesnt really bring good. you can see this in the whole theme of him not wanting to comply with the propaganda of the bene gesserit and in his visions of seeing a holy war fought in his name and in zendayas character that acts as a sort of protaganist to the new paul who is now the Muad'Dib. herbert famously got mad when the book was released and people said paul was a hero. when you talk about the first half of the movie being slow and falling flat with lingering shots that at nothing but screen time I find a couple of problems with that. I firstly think that if you want to say how well you felt the world incapsulated you and how real it felt you cant turn around and get mad at the lingering shots. the mood shots and thos litlle moments are what make the atmoshpere. if you cant see the enviorment or how they walk and what different times of day look like and without really hearing it which i think the film did wonderfully you cant have the movie feel real and fully enthralling. i also thought the jokes hit pretty well, not super funny but realistic dialouge with some comic relife. i also think that if thought it felt like you were watching a counsol meeting and boring I just think that u have brainrot mind becasue its like a huge part of dune that polotics and the balance of power and the stale agression of no one wanting to step out of line but everyone wanting to essend power is very intersting and portayed fairly elequently in the brutish nature of their current politic scene. your problem with the rapid change of stilgar in the movie and how the fremmen seem to laugh at him at one point and then quickly follow him seem to me that you just didnt really get it. you have to remeber the that there is northern freman who seem to be mainly secular and the fundamentalists freman in the south, I think this is where your getting confused becasue zendaya's people from the north dont beleive in the lasan al gaib so they dont eccept him and seem more mean while the southern freman start out thinking hes a false proffit laughing and such but throughout the movie he fufils the profecy and you can see a final switch which is jarring but purposeful when paul drinks the water of life and survives fufiling the profecy and at the same time signafing his switch to control the freman to plot his revenge. the "mouf full of sick" part just seems like your grasping at things and she is also pregnant so thats probably the reason for it. when you say that it lacked drama and you felt it hard to care about what was going on with "nothing at stake" it look to me that your just trying to be above it all. Like I mean come on how can you say there nothing at stake, hes literaly fufiling a proficy while posibly becoming the Kwisatz Haderach while simultaneously making a pkay for the highest throne, simply a stupid take. all in all i think your either stupid or you just dindt want to like the movie i dont see how you came to really any of these conclusions. but im just a bruh on youtube so dont take it seriously good video to, very well made.

    It is in no means a bad film. Villeneuve famously prefers image over dialog and he definitely succeeds with that in both film parts. I agree with some of your character criticisms in Part 2 but that's mostly minor. I think I slightly preferred Part 1 because it was more of a blank canvas. But I liked Part 2, and will go on to see Messiah if he makes it.

  • @Jack-hu7cb
    @Jack-hu7cb Před 6 měsíci +4

    I agree with some of your criticisms. For example Lady Jessica throwing up when they are extracting the moisture from the bodies, she is meant to be a Bene Gesserit with complete control of her body.
    Stilgar was a completly different character than he was in part 1, one scene where he really shines for me was Paul's sand worm ride scene, that was the real Stilgar for me, wasn't impressed with the rest of his protrail tbh
    Those breathing snorkels the Fremen used (which I thought were really cool), only problem is they wernt consistently using them throughout both movies when they hid below the sand surface.
    I dont think we got to feel the 'struggle' that the Fremen have living in such a harsh environment, when Paul was given the task of crossing a supposedly dangerous area to prove he was 'ready', but the camera crew must have forgot film all the struggles he faced doing so as we never seen any more of it.
    There were other issues I had with the film that I can't remember to write here, but basically I think they should have broken book 1&2 into 3 movies instead of 2. And kept the movies more grounded and immersive (especially where the Fremen & Desert are concerned).

    I think the way it was cut down was okay as many who haven't read the book would have found time jumps jarring and wierd as they are still going to have to keep it bellow 3 hours I don't know how you add 2 and a half years without adding to the run time and the first half I think is about world building how desolate it is how the fremen live its the framework of hatred against their oppresses however the one point I agree is that I think Paul might of been excepted to quickly but I didn't really ponder on it that much

      you add time by having the Harkonnens kill Paul and Chani's first child Leto II in the seitch raid.....like what happened in the book. The child was an infant at the time so that would account for at least one year

  • @dervideominister
    @dervideominister Před 6 měsíci +2

    If you refer to the archetypes of storrytelling you have to mention that the book is self referential in this regards.
    What if a character understands the rules of drama? What if he sees what is coming in a story/myth?
    Paul knows the structure of the messiah storytelling. He can 'see' the whole story, the deus ex machina at work. And he hesitates to give in,but after all he can't resist.
    Of course Dune has to feel edgy in this regard. There is a character in the story that doubts his role in the story!!
    This is very unique!

    This review shows that watching movies is a very personal experience. I thought that it was an excellent movie. The humour might not always have been at 100% but that’s life, it’s not meant to be a comedy. To undertake a project like Dine, and to deliver a visual masterpiece that holds attention from start to finish due to a good story and excellent acting performances is testament to just how skilled Villeneuve is as a director. One of the finest about these days. As for the score, it was noticeable, it was majestic and it was another fine score by one of the masters Hans Zimmer.

    I respectfully disagree with you, but very thoughtful review nonetheless. Most negative reviews I've seen just call it woke garbage and just wants an excuse to insult Zendaya's acting. Btw during the first trimester of pregnancy, many women have the bouts of nausea and vomiting known as morning sickness, so Jessica vomiting is really not that jarring when you think about it. I also like how tragic most of the humor actually is, but I can totally see your point. :)

    The movie was incredibly disappointing. Walken as the emperor added nothing to a role that was so well hyped in the first film. The Harkonnen come off as pushovers this time. So do the Sardaukar. The romance falls flat. They use the same ‘kill your own people to show you’re the bad guy’ contrivance SEVEN TIMES. The film is both meandering and rushed. People are so starved for quality cinema, they’ll treat mediocrity like brilliance.

    I just saw part 2. I had a problem with Paul being nearly killed by Feyd Harkonnen. There was even a scene where Feyd is shown to be fighting drugged men, and the one that wasn't drugged is old, has only one knife, and is being attacked by the people around the two of them. Paul has been fighting with the Fremen against trained soldiers for years at this point and Feyd has been 'fighting' in fixed matches. But for me the most egregious omission was Paul demanding to marry Irulan without saying to Chani that Irulan would have no part of him (no sex or love) then Chani taking the next worm out of town. I also think Villenueve missed a chance to show the passage of time (and a big emotional moment) when Paul and Chani's first child Leto II was killed in that Harkonnen seitch raid. Also, the Harkonnen are sadistic sociopathic brutes, but I don't think you stay in power for very long by killing everyone who isn't a 'yes' man. If they did, no one would be saying anything but 'yes' in this movie.

    • @snsnplpl
      @snsnplpl Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@stonedfinn3649 Would that explain how everyone, including Feyd, was surprised that one Atreides man wasn't drugged? Feyd has been training in rigged games so I doubt he is really all that good. Considering Duncan Idaho (!) thought he was lucky to escape getting killed when he had to kill some random Fremen to be accepted into the group, it's very likely there are many Fremen who could kill Feyd and Paul has not only been trained by Duncan Idaho, but also by Fremen. If Villenueve hadn't been going for a little suspense, that Paul vs Feyd fight should have been over before it started

      I thought those exact same things. I think there could have been some opportunities to discuss the deeper elements of chain and Paul’s relationship. The reverend mother ritual was also a miss. But because the movie is an adaptation and mostly honored the book, it was magnificent

    Eh I'm a big fan of the books and Im not sure what to think about it just yet. I didn't like the jokes either and I felt the movie missed out on the potential to get weird and esoteric with modern special effects. I wanted more from Jessica's and Paul's spice trips. Much more. Chaney was too antagonist and I felt it was forced and unnatural. I really wanted a spice orgy scene as well. I just think they could have pushed the envelope considerably. But I'm ok with what we got.

    Bang on, first half was extremely underwhelming and the silgar character transformation was jarring. Theres this bizarre sequence where Paul is told to cross some section of the desert alone (in which his unlikely success should lead to his wary acceptance in the tribe) , and then within two minutes of run time he's suddenly being helped through the whole thing and then its forgotten about entirely a minute later...I don't know how that made it to screen. I actually thought the first hour was pretty bad cinema to be honest, but then as soon as Rautha was introduced it picked up. The second half was great.

    • @Nineteen1900Hundred
      @Nineteen1900Hundred Před 6 měsíci +1

      I'm gonna disagree slightly with you there, thought the first half a little more in line with Part One's more elegant purity and simplicity, and I think that sequence was just Paul's journey of learning Fremen ways of desert life, and Chani was helping cause she liked him, not because the tribe suddenly decided to. Unlike you, I found the second half of the film sometimes a little bit messy with it's plot and editing, too many characters running around different locations too quickly, too many fast cuts back and forth between planets. Ended up kind of disjointed and confusing, especially with that scene of "Chani waking up Paul with a tear". While I wasn't happy with the major plot changes like Alia's absence in the final conflict, I felt it got quite compelling because of Chalamet's performance as full awakened Messiah Paul.
