Beta Cell Function Explained: C-Peptide Test To Know If Your Body Makes Insulin -Type 2 Diabetes #21
Welcome to Type 2 Diabetes number 21. I’m Doctor Vladmir Carvalho, and I’m an endocrinologist. In this video, I explain how to understand if your body is still producing insulin by introducing the C-peptide test. This test provides insights into the functionality of your beta cells, the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. I discuss how insulin and C-peptide levels correlate with glucose concentration, thereby providing valuable information about your body's insulin production and beta cell health. I also cover various scenarios to interpret C-peptide test results in relation to blood glucose levels, helping you understand different diabetes conditions and how they affect insulin production.

What Causes Insulin Resistance: Why It Should Be Called Food Resistance!? Type 2 Diabetes #12

Insulin resistance is a condition in which the body doesn't use the insulin efficiently. The cells in your body do not respond well to the hormone insulin that is produced and released by the beta cells of the pancreas. If this continues, the glucose in your blood will have a hard time entering into different cells in your body, and that will make the pancreas release even more insulin to compe...

Why High Blood Sugar Cause Frequent Urination and Thirst: Type 2 Diabetes #9

Today, I'll tell you why patients with type 2 diabetes feel like urinating all the time, have sweet urine and feel thirsty. When blood sugar gets higher than 180 mg/dl, the glucose transporters in your kidneys can't take all the glucose back to the blood and some of it will go into the urine. The higher the blood sugar, the more sugar will be in the urine. If your kidneys are normal and you don...

Great video. Great explanation
Excellent presentation on C-peptide. No one has dealt this with this many scenarios.
Dr. Then how we can gain weight?
A most interesting presentation - thank you, Doctor. I have been on a Carnivore diet for 6 years. Got the results of my C-Peptide today; 225pmol = 0.225nmol = 0.675ng/mL. Would these numbers concern you, knowing that I ate no carbohydrates?
Hey doctor.please make a video on on normal BMI people with prediabetes or type 2 diabeties.thanks
Excellent, easy to understand explanation of this drug group, and the possible pros and cons. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Thank you for a very informative video! Loved 'You are fearfully and wonderfully made.' Of that, I am positive and in continual wonderment and acknowledgement of God, our Creator. There are countless millions of components and interactions in one single cell that can never be duplicated or recreated in a lab. It didn't self assemble from the primordial swamp. The odds surpass the highest order of infinity, making sheer tomfoolery of the idea of evolution. Environmental adaptation? Yes. We are fearfully and wonderfully made!
My endocrinologist just told me that all my test were ok, that to not worry about having diabetes but I took a look at my lab sheets later on and saw a very low fasting insulin result. I will ask him tomorrow but what does low insulin lab result mean ?
New subscriber! Very informative. Type one Mom.
I had a carb challenged C-peptide done recently, and I found it quite interesting but also frustrating that the clinician used the result from the challegend test as if it were interchangeable to the FASTING C-peptide test! To me it's obvious that I continue to SLOWLY loose insulin production, despite all my efforts.
Excellent ... well done ..
How much time beta cell takes after releasing insulin to release second burst of insulin ( preparation of insulin in beta cell)
THIS IS GREAT NEWS. THANK YOU
whether release of insulin is proportional to glucose input or insulin releases in a fixed amount ( as one measure) and than it's fixed amount ( second measure ) releases after some time ( say 55 minutes)
Please make video on one meal a day and type 2 diabetes
so how u stop losing weight and how to gain it back ?
I've lost a lot of weight on the carnivore diet. It's been awesome!! I've gotton off my blood pressure medicine and one diabetic tablet. I'm very happy about my progress.
I need to lose 70 pounds
Doc how can we get in touch for a consultation. How do we test our betacell for damage
I just saw my new lab test results on Quest. My A1C was 5.3. My fasting glood glucose was 70. My fasting insulin was 3.8. And my c--peptide was .61 and was flagged as 'low'. However, many of the health websites I've seen indicate that normal range is between .5 and 2.0. What are your thoughts on these numbers?
So, eat less?
My lack of sleep during the past five years has been caused by a new, stressful work that I started five years ago. Another thing to notice is that my girlfriend and I moved in together about the same time she had a 10-year history of weight loss. I have undergone a complete physical examination, but they were unable to identify the reason for my 40-pound weight drop. One of the symltom i get from time to time is i get lain in my stomach on my right upper side of my stomach. Could you please tell me on what could be causing my weight loss all over my body?
Pls show a few exercise iam willing to do it thanks once again
Best explation ever thanks Doc God bless u today and everyday
Muscle
Excellent explanation. What is is the ideal range for C peptide and insulin level. I think I am at 2.8 and insulin at 7. What does it say about my beta cell function?
Thank you for the information. Can you please tell us the solution?
Watching this in 2024. I decided to watch more of what you have to say about T2D after watching a 2020 interview with Dennis Pollock of Beat Diabetes. I have watched hundreds of hours of videos on this subject and rarely learn anything new. But you said that if you still have weight to lose, this means your pancreas is working. This gives me hope. I’ve lost 40 pounds in the last 10 months, weight is within a few pounds of a normal BMI, but my A1c dropped to 6.0 from 7.6 only to bounce back up to 6.5 despite remaining true to <20 daily carbs. I’ve been diligent in following a diet of less than 20 carbs, but get frustrated that my blood sugar will be in the 130s - 140s. Since my doctor won’t do any testing on insulin resistance, I was worried my pancreas was irreparably damaged. I always planned to keep eating low carb, but will now continue with more hope. I hope you will continue to release new videos.
Finally !! An MD who knows not only about the body's functions, but ALSO about Nutrition !
This sucks, i always struggled with gaining weight and now it's near impossible
How can you known if you have diabetic because after exercise and your sugar is normal you go to the doctor and check your blood sugar in lab and he say you don’t have diabetes but you are see so many symptoms like unirating dry mouth and so on
Why is that, when you check your blood sugar is like 86 but you still unirating
So nicely you have made understand it
Not a diabetic but I’m trying not to feel guilty about eating watermelon I’m trying keto & fasting but 5 days in I needed a slice of fruit and ate the lowest GL fruit also one of the tastiest fruit I won’t be eating it every day, but just when i need to feed the craving, to stop me from relapsing, 4-5 slices max of watermelon should be ok based on this video
Every newly diagnosed T2 diabetic should be watching this!
Nicely explained
Thank you! This is very helpful information and made easy to understand.
Thank you so much!
This is one of if not the best explanation of how exercise can help type 2 diabetics.
I know of long standing diabetics who have not only reversed diabetes but were able to pass Glucose Tolerance Test multiple times. can you explain please. What you are saying is what the big pharma wants. Diabetes is big business. Doctors will not say it is curable as they are barred from saying that.
Very nice way of explaining doc. I have watched several videos but didn't completely understood about c peptide but your single video clarified my all doubts related to c peptide. Great way of explaining.
Ever since my Dr put me on jardiance ,I get nothing done but pee . So tired of the constant peeing .plus my blood sugar levels up and down.but rarely as it is now constantly in the 200 range
One of the best & relevant knowledge. Thanks a lot

Dr. Carvalho. So can Type 2 diabetic people "reverse" the "unintended" weight loss?
⚠️ Finally someone answered this question that I always wanted to know why I eat a lot and the more I eat, the more I lose weight. Thank you very much. 🎉🎉❤❤❤
Is he saying eat more

Hi Dr. Carvalho. So how can Type 2 Diabetes "gain" weight? I've been a Type 2 Diabetic for 10+ years. I take Metformin (Hydrochloride) -1000 MG 2X daily. I thought the Metformin medication was the one that causes me to lose weight. My last A1C test result was 7.8. What types of foods will help me "gain" weight??? So frustrated & depressed. Any suggestion or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Melanie
