Do I think it wss good they removed Jsdon Bateman from Silver Spoons cause he was too popular? Hell no.That was the dumbest reason they let him go. Now I can understand if they let him go cause he was difficult to deal with like Suzane Summers on Three's Company, but Jason Bateman wasnt difficult at all he helped to make the show Derick was a sleeze and a creep which made the show good one of the reasons I watched Silver Spoons was cause of Derick the 80's Eddie Haskel and Ive seen Its your move that show bombed they should have brought back Derick after the departure the only reason I watched it was cause of Tricia Cast she wss a babe.
As if the people on those 900 calls looked like that on the other line! Pretty models. The real ones probably had their bath robes on with rollers in their hair! 😂 Dionne Warwick and the Psychic Friends Network! 😂 Never called them!
LOL!
Silver Spoons was only so-so, was pretty much a cheap show. Cheap sets, cheap writing, and as we all know now, Ricky Schroeder is a horrible person. Most cable companies airing reruns yanked it a long time ago. The show is best forgotten.
No, I did not watch Silver Spoons. Having been a senior in HS when it first aired, I was not occupied with TV
I never dialed but I was curious🤣🤷♀️👀!
Same
Yes they Should have kept him in they were good pair
Why don’t they release the rest of the seasons of Silver Springs I been waiting forever?
I recall the Miss Cleo and Freddie Krueger versions.
Those where good ones!
Are you kidding me? I never dialed that crap!
Neither did I
Thankfully they are no longer here.
Loved that show. Batman, legend.
He is more famous then Ricky . Jason was on Little House On The Prairie!
He was overshadowing Ricky!
I remember “It’s Your Move” being hilarious. According to an interview with Jason Batemen, it was canceled because it influenced too many young boys to do bad things. I was one of those kids. lol
Jason Bateman, good actor. He could have been a leading actor but I guess he got typecast because of his roles as a kid.
So much for a Meritocracy. But I still watch the reruns quite a bit. It was a bad move that they let him go. The Show was a lot funnier with him in it.
This really doesn't add up. My 1st thought was, "ok, then why didn't Urkel get fired?" I'd buy them wanting to take Batemans popularity and trying to get a spin off going. But saying "well the writers wanna focus on the family so see ya" doesn't make sense because the writers aren't in charge, the execs are and the execs want what's gonna bring in more money.
Yes I remember Silver SPOONS liked and watched it Think getting rid of Bateman was a mistake but also think the reason given is a Lie He was popular probably too much competition for Schroeder 😊
Definitely bad to let Jason go
Because he stole Golden Globe Winning Ricky Schroeder's thunder.
"It's Your Move" was a great sitcom. Pretty subversive for kid-oriented show on NBC in 1984. From the same writers that would later do "Married With Children".
I was maybe 20?, my ex-wife would be at work, I'd get high and watch this show, I thought the Bateman character was pretty amusing!, It also had Carlton in it!
I watched Silver Spoons during it's entire run and although Schroder might not have been as talented as Bateman at "Acting" ! I remember seeing Ricky Schroder on late night talk shows and he was a good kid that had a great upbringing and was grounded which has made him the man he is today, a Patriot and Trump supporter also he claimed that he was molested during that time period meanwhile Jason Bateman is a Vile, ANTI AMERICAN,TDS, PEDOPHILE SYMPATHIZER just like DeZero, The Pew Hags, Reiner, etc... Ricky Schroder is a better "Human Being"!
Bateman was a big addition to the show. They wanted to focus on the father and the Erin Gray character??? What? No one cared. It was mainly kids watching the show. My parents could've cared less. Bateman and Schroeder made a great team. Surprised they writers destroyed what they started.
Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrek!!!!!!!!!
Erin Grey was a smoke show.
I stopped watching after Jason Bateman was no longer on the show. :)
I always watched this show, I loved it. Being too popular might be the worst reason I have ever heard to fire somebody!!!!! Bateman was the best part of the show!
After he left, the adults were shoved to the edge of the screen and it was just an extended Tiger Beat magazine spread...and fewer interesting stories...so bad it went to where all shows go to die: Saturday night line up.
Corky Pigeon was great.
I gave you a like too... Yee-Haw!
Thank you sir!
@@retrocereal My pleasure!
Very well done... You did good this was FUN! I'm impressed... I subscribed to your channel.
Thanks you!
For me, when they had Geri Jewel on was an episode I loved because I too have Cerebral Palsy (although my C.P. is more mild than hers) and having the girls (especially Blair) learning that people who have disabilities are no different then her and that we should all be treated the same as everyone else.
I liked those episodes wither her in it too!
It’s Your Move was a great sitcom. Should they have fired him from Silver Spoons? As a compliment to Jason Bateman, yes, I think they had to. His magnetism would have made it the Jason Bateman show just as Urkle did to Family Matters 8 years later.
I was actually a fan of Its Your Move and its cancellation was a big disappointment. During my time in the service in the late 80s, I missed a lot of tv so I never saw The Hogan Family, but I started to be a fan of Jason Bateman through his film career. He’s actually one of a large group of actors doing numerous movies together; Jennifer Aniston, Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and JK Simmons have done numerous projects together interchangeably. And Arrested Development is on my list of top 3 sitcoms of all time.
You mean to tell me they're so unable to control themselves they can't not heavily feature someone?
Ya...when Batemen left is was lame, but when "It's Your Move" came out...I was like "F' Silver Spoons".
one of the big episodes that tackled issues at the time was the date rape of natalie green. this episode was highly publisized and had its fair share of "laundry" that went along with it. Probably the biggest was that the original actress that the issue was going to fall on was Blair however, she was very adament about not doing it. so after careful consideration they decided to have the least likely one to play the role and it fell onto Mindy Cohn to carry the part.
Interesting! Thank you!
Another fun fact - Going into the second season when they were searching for a tougher tomboy character to play the part of Jo, one of the people who auditioned for that part was Kari Michaelsen, who later became known as Katie Kanisky on the show Gimme A Break!. They elected to have Nancy McKeon to fill that spot, the real life sister of Phillip McKeon from the show Alice.
8:28 Mayim Bialik is actually pronounced MY-him Bee-ALL-lick
Thank you!
Can you imagine what would have become of Family Matters if Jaleel White was fired for being too popular. It probably wouldn't have made it past the 2nd season.
I haven't seen this show but that's a stupid reason they still could find the stories they wanted to tell without Jason. As he don't need to be in every episode along with Ricky
I remember that train going through living room.
Unlike the Two Corys, Jason Bateman was light years more talented than Ricky Schroeder. Jason out-performed Ricky in every scene. You can’t have a supporting actor steal the show from the star. But Jason Bateman did alright for himself and today he is far more beloved and renowned than Rick Schroeder, who seems to have emersed himself deep into White supremacy and MAGAVILLE.
I watched "Silver Spoons" for one reason and one reason only, the lovely Miss Erin Gray.
That"s stupid.
Sounds like an inspirational story....The one who was let go is, as far as I know, is still an A-list actor forty years later.
I loved show I was always jealous of Ricky because of the arcade games he had, well, not jealous anymore, I now have more arcade games than he did.😁
A secondary character becoming too popular on a show!?! What about Fonzie on Happy Days? Or Latka on Taxi? Those characters helped the success of the show, not hurt it.
I liked it's your move better than Silver Spoons. Although the personality of the character from Silver Spoons was the same as the character he played in It's your move but gave him the ability to explore it more as the main character.
Good insight!
