First, still tape with my VHS player and have 250 unopened tapes. Two, bought a Beta Max at a thrift store for $5 a couple of years ago, still works. Third, trying to get my brother to sell me his Lazer disk player. He won't budge. Four, we have the Pacific Pinball Museum. 250 vintage Pinball games for 1 price, all day. I love the old stuff. Still living it.

Fax machines! My 22 year old daughter didn’t know what one was! I’m the only one in my office who still uses it!

So many hours spent, girls met, and fun mischief to be found at the local video arcade. Me and my friends thing was to make friends with the kids who worked there (when we were old enough, work there ourselves) in order to get free plays on our favorite games. By the late eighties most of us had some sort of video game system at home but the arcade was a place to interact socially. There were the big arcade chains like TILT and Red Baron and Putt- Putt and then there were the locally owned ones, which in my city were probably mafia money laundering operations and were always a little seedy.

That was a solid plan for back in the day. I always preferred going to an archade than playing on a home system. But both had their streghs and weaknesses

The town I live in has a bar/arcade. I haven't been there yet but maybe I'll check it out soon. I loved arcades back in the day.
As for 8 tracks. My brother had an 8 track recorder. My Dad's car had a player and although the tech was "over" by the time I got my license, they worked just fine.
One thing I miss, is making your own outgoing message tapes for your answering machine. A friend of mine and I would mix in lines from multiple movies. I also miss screening my calls that way too.
Ah Radio Shack. They had all the specific equipment and sold things like a video switch we had that allowed us to record one show but watch another which wasn't a thing back in the late 70's. I was quite the techie back then. I've only recently lost a step or two.
Lol! My town also has a drive in theater. Most of the programming is for kids, so I haven't gone yet. I still think it's great.

Radio Shack was like the early online stores we see today in a retail format. The cell phone industry killed Radio Shack. They couldn’t keep up with the phone carriers. In the 80’s video killed the radio star was a true and relevant song. In other words ,all technology kills old technology and renders it obsolete.

Am GenX @ 52 - i remember the vjs beta war in early 80s, but time the video store culture a thing in Australia there wasn't a lot of interest- lads my age were always out doing stuff riding skating sports hangin in pool halls & pinball parlous and partying.
Reckon I was 30 something before I could relate.

Soon the old Big Three networks will be antiquated and all scripted entertainment will be channeled through streaming programming which will costs the viewer money.
