How much does all of this weigh without the tires and will a transmission lift hold it?
Motor is 200lbs, so probably 350lbs for the whole thing.
If you want even more service access and cap. Unlock the gateway with your key in the con foot on the brake and hold right turn signal for 17 sec untill the bottom of the screen says gtw unlocked
That's only needed to send CAN routines.
to weld a body part on tesla 3, does the 12v and main battery model need to be disconnected?
You have to pull the connector at the penthouse under the rear seat right side, then pull the 12v negative.
I don’t have a clue where to start with this, could you guide me or how long dose this take to figure out when you know what your doing? Thanks
It would probably cost you $450 to hire me to do it. You can't do it without specific knowledge of the Tesla CAN signals which I have.
im interested in a dual rear motor for an ev swap, but how can you get the torque vectoring to work?
Hi I have seen your video as I am wanting to use some model 3 sets in a different car, do you know if the body controllers left and right will power just the seats by themselves if I find the positive & negative, or will the need more than that to make the controls work on the side of the seat? thanks
They used to back on 2018.x software. Don't know if this is still the case. Might need to send CAN.
Do you know how to send a CAN signal or is this unrelaistic ?
@@powerraxstoragesolutions9852 not unrealistic, but takes some engineering time to figure it out. Then you need some hardware to send it.
Request a new video on the power conversion module for Cyber Truck. The lack of visible large high voltage capacitors needs an explanation.❤👍
I don't have a Cybertruck, Can't afford one. But looking at the design, I think they just send 100/120hz ripple into the pack. There's a lot of evidence that this actually is good for the pack.
@@Ingineerix sincerely appreciate the clarification. Saw one of the CT teardown videos, where the tiny low voltage caps were compared with a Model Y PCS High Voltage electrolytic caps, to highlight the advancement?.❤👍

If you'd like to contact me directly, I can probably help you diagnose it. Seems you have an HV isolation issue. You can find my email by using a browser (not a phone) to view my channel's "about" page.
Where can you buy oem battery?
Tesla. They will sell you one over-the-counter. Just walk into any service center.
I changed my battery to this OHMMU and had 0 issues. I have a 2021 Model Y as well.
Just because you have not YET had an issue, doesn't mean you wont. If you do have a PCS failure, it will cost thousands. Is it worth it?
Im looking the Resolver for my M3 2018 :(
Tesla does not list this separately, and even so, you have to pair them, so you can't just swap another one in. Your only option is to replace the whole drive unit unfortunately.
Hi, did not find the battery current monitoring IC on this board? Is it not present on this board?
No, there is an external shunt.
@@Ingineerix there’s usually another IC to monitor the pack current and also read the DC link voltage. It’s Interesting they don’t have it. How are they measuring this ? I’m assuming they have an opamp and then connects to the HV DSP.
@@DivineSoundsMaster-nm6re Sorry, This is beyond a youtube comment discussion. You'd have to hire me for engineering research.
Awesome summary! New subscriber here 🙂 Quick question: What is the best way to "shutdown" a Tesla Model 3 over a prolonged time say two month holiday period so it does not run the battery empty? Cant charge in my city center garage. Simply disconnect the 12V battery or ...? Thanks!!
Yes, charge the HV battery to around 60-70%, then simply disconnect the 12v battery negative lead. You will have to also disconnect the HV battery connector under the back set momentarily, or use service mode to open the contactors. Note that once you do this you will no longer have access to the car once the doors are shut. If you shut the frunk, you will need to open it with the 2 wires under the tow hook cap, so I advise placing a rag in the latch mechanism so it doesn't get accidentally latched. It should be good for a year like this.
@@Ingineerixthanks so much - also same procedure with the "new" 16V battery - just simply remove the connector at once and follow the reminder of your instructions above? Thanks again..
Correct. You can just pull the green button up and slide the connector to disconnect. You will still need to stop the HV system to shut down the car.
Wow! Thanks for doing this.
@ingineerix I'm thinking about replacing the FSD computer 1462554-S0-J with 1462554-S0-K. It is a retrofit HW3 computer. What are your thoughts? Do you have any experience with this? Will Toolbox 3 be required or does Tesla Service have to have their hands on it?
Yes, you cannot do it. First off it has to be an unmarried HW3, with root access you could unmarry one, but you'd need root access on the both the new one and the current system to get all the data including the certificates from it, otherwise it will never connect to Tesla, so you'll be offline and permanently frozen on the current software version. (It will never get updates) Only versions on or before 2023.44 can be unmarried because of the WEK for HW3.

Excellent video. Thank you!
I tried the Ohmmu battery three years ago. It came with the battery terminals reversed from the OEM battery, and I returned it. Your internal battery discussion makes me very glad I did return it.

DUDE! I am an ME and I have a huge question. That coldplate / housing core is unbelievable - how is the cooling channel manufactured? The only method I've heard of that would work is either sand cast or salt core die cast, which is wild. Because this looks like one solid piece, it doesn't look like it's been welded back together. Do you still have the housing?
To me, it appears to be 2 halves, and they appear to be friction stir welded on the sides.
@@Ingineerix huh, how does that work with the inlets? I’ve only heard of friction stir welded in one plane. Do you see weld lines around the sides?
@@jon-williammurphy9780 Sorry, I assumed you were talking about the older computer. I realize it was the new one, yeah, I can't tell how it was done, it's one big casting, so there is some kind of hollow process like you describe.
I heard that the battery data was wrong. It is printed 12V but in reality is 16V., do i'm right Did Tesla ever used lithium 12V batteries in their cars?
I suggest you re-watch this video, and part 2 (link is in the description above)
I have a video request. Would it be possible for you to test the Tesla onboard inverter and how it handles charging with a standard generator (specifically a non-inverter type generator). By measuring heat produced in the various components, it be nice to know how well the onboard inverter handles dirty power.
just read an update on this gen 2 drive units, changing oil type and maybe the process on how is serviced I think. Gearbox Fluid - Front Drive Unit (2nd Generation) (Drain and Refill) Correction Code 39300202 Revision History: • 2024-02-28: Updated gearbox fluid. Wondering why the change?
The reason is clearly spelled out in the service manual under fluids: "To reduce gearbox fluid variances and improve drive unit efficiency, service centers are to transition to KAF1 gearbox fluid for all vehicle drive units. When refilling or topping up drive unit gearboxes, first deplete supplies of the specified SK 212-B, ATF-9, and EDF2 gearbox fluids, and only then substitute with KAF1. KAF1 gearbox fluid is fully backwards compatible with the SK 212-B, ATF-9, and EDF2 gearbox fluids, and incidental mixing of the specified fluid with KAF1 is permitted. Eventually, service centers will only stock KAF1 fluid."

Hi, I have just bought a salvage model 3 performance, 2021 plate. The car is still registered in the old owners name, 12 V battery was dead but I have managed to revive it. I am getting a few strange problems, one the sub does not seem to be working and 2 I seem to be getting a lot of interference/static noises through the speakers. Is there anything you have ever heard of before?

No, because there is calibration data in flash. Why would you want yo do this? To install a new one, all you need is to install it and redeploy software from service mode.
Would you be able to help me with the part number of the upper subframe / crossmember
The parts catalog is public and free for anyone with a Tesla account (free to create): epc.tesla.com/
Thank you one of the simplest explanation. Is there a site or link you have or can point on the supercharger CAN/SWCAN protocol that Tesla uses. I'm trying to implement it to see if I can close the contactors on the EV side. Any pointers or help is appreciated. I have been able to do it with other cars that use PLC/GreenPHY as CCS uses ISO15118/DIN70121 (also going to try with newer Teslas that use NACS/PLC) but older ones that have SWCAN - I am not able to due to the closed nature of the handshaking/protocol Tesla uses. I am not sure if anyone has reverse engg it.
It's so funny how you guys fixate on "Super" this, and "Super" that, with Tesla. "Super Manifold" is so lame. 😂
This is simply what Tesla decided to call it, but if you compared it to the "old stuff", they aren't wrong. A lot of this stuff is a true step change, and an engineering masterpiece. I used to be impressed when I took a Toyota apart, But these little details you find in Tesla's systems engineering is so much more impressive. Check out my other videos!
Do you think the bi-directional capability has been added to the Highland 3 models? Super videos by the way
Until someone lets me borrow one to check this out, I have no idea. I suspect Tesla would be advertising it if true, so probably not. Again, they want you to buy a powerwall.
