    So the center plate breaks off from the terminal ends pushed by the piston. How do they make sure it doesn't get accidentally jammed between the terminals after the explosion? Next question: This fuse lives inside the battery enclosure together with DC contactors and possible other melt type of overcurrent fuses. What is actually triggering it?? Same signal as for the Airbags??? Can you show how to open a Model S battery pack and then close and reseal it ???? I know everybody loves Sandy Munroe but you are The Best IMHO.

  • @Stefan_Dahn
    @Stefan_Dahn Před 2 lety +9

    Very interesting! So this one was without any electrical load on it, while blowing up, right?
    If so, I suspect this would look quite hefty, if there was like 400 Volt dc and some hundreds Amps flow through it, when the OPENED pyrofuse trips.
    Looking forward for more scientifical investigations. 😁

    Boy and girls, this is a demonstration of why you don’t want an EV if you value you and your families lives. I just had a rear inverter failure on a dual motor Tesla that blew the pyro fuse and killed all HV power to the car leaving me stranded on the side of the road at midnight with a car less than a year old with only 5k miles. That level of failure in a new ICE is almost unheard of. I did a search, and tons of people having the same issue. With the new tiny LV batteries, the car completely dies in 10 mins. No hazard lights even. Selling my EV at a huge loss and buying a more reliable ICE car. Life if too short and I value my family too much to keep an EV.

    • @Ingineerix
      @Ingineerix  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Sounds like you are upset, and I would be too. But you are overstating the problem. I have good data on over 3000 Teslas and inverter failure, or any failure causing loss of HV is super rare. "Tons of people" is just hyperbole. A flat tire is far more common, which also can leave you stranded on the side of the road, and this affects all road going vehicles. Are you going to swear off all cars with tires if this happens to you again? I don't have any stats on ICE car failures that result in "side of the road" , but I'm confident it's much higher than most EVs. However, I do agree on the small LV battery.

    • @JetFire9
      @JetFire9 Před 8 měsíci

      @@IngineerixYou don't know what you're talking about. You can drive a long time on a flat tire, just watch a police chase on youtube. It is not rare to have these failures. Look it up on the Tesla owner's forums. Your "data" is bad and biased. ICE cars have never left me stranded, and I have driven all the most unreliable brands and older versions of those unreliable brands.

    • @Ingineerix
      @Ingineerix  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@JetFire9 I have actual real-time data logs from over 3000 cars. I get every alert, trouble code, and all data that Tesla normally gets in real time. I believe that is a large enough sample size. A handful of people in the forums reporting that problem has to be weighed against the millions of cars Tesla has sold. You had "infant mortality", it happens with electronics. A failed MOSFET in the inverter is no different than one failing in your ICE Engine computer, both will leave you dead. They both can happen, and it's outside of a manufacturer's control, which is why they all offer warranties.
