He's right, the world doesn't owe you anything. But, I wasn't asking for a fair handshake. As a business owner, I don't work to make a living. I work to make a difference. That goes double for my paycheck and the service I provide.

Before even watching this I want to say something. I earned my CDL and everyone told me about how many jobs there are out there. Here's my experience. 90% of companies won't hire unless you have 6 months to 1 year experience. Most of this is because of their insurance. Now with freight costs rising, competition for jobs is rising. 4 months and I'm still looking. Dealing with recruiters and looking into large national companies that have training has been the only way anyone will talk to me. What's available to those without experience....road time 3 weeks, home time 3 days .55 to .60 per mile. I have conditional offer from Schneider Trucking but it's not secured yet. Oh, and another thing my trucking school didn't mention...the need for hazmat, twik cards, doubles, triples. Give over your bodily fluids, hair for drug tests, 10 years of continuous employment history, background check... it's pretty invasive. I get it, safety n all but sheesh. All that for 50-60k per year to start.... it's been somewhat frustrating.

Would you still recommend going the owner operator route? I'm sure you've heard this WAYYY too much but the idea that automated trucks are supposed to be taking over..."whenever" Is the thing that makes me the most nervous about jumping into this profession.

The company I work for, paid for me to go to truck driving school, so I can get my cdl, and I just got my cdl 4 days ago. Literally the day after I passed my cdl test, they wanted me to go to Texas to deliver something, and I was like, "You know I'm only 20, and I still have my intrastate restriction." And the manager was like, "well if you dont make this delivery than we could lose thousands of dollars" and I was like "yeah, and I could lose the license I literally just got yesterday, I'm not doing that." Needless to say, I probably won't be working for them very much longer, especially if they're going to try this shit.

My uncle is a truck driver been for a long time told me one question to always ask those big companies if they pay tolls the big cities get expensive to pay tolls

The trucking industry has just turned into a big scam,double ,triple brokered loads,fmcsa is a worthless piece of sh*t organization,outrageous fuel ,repair and parts rates,it’s nothing but a huge scam on the the truckers themselves,

I'm a CDL A truck driver I do about 2,700 miles a week and it gets fucking old driving in blizzards ice storms tornado baseball-sized hail and animals running across the highway etc. Lots of things that they don't tell you before you start driving in fully loaded 80,000 lb semi plus the Lonely Nights on the road, plan on gaining about 50 lb also do you care about Fitness or being in shape kiss that shit goodbye also

Funny how during covid we were heroes but as soon as covid was over we were back to being trash. I quit driveing after 33 years and got my disability. The truck stops screw you the cops screw you and shippers and receivers screw you and the saddest part is modern day drivers are sorry . 33 years of the shit was enough.

Some things I noticed at the test site, first, adjust your seat, mirrors and steering wheel properly. Second, wear your seatbelt, 3rd always face the inside of the truck with 3 points of contact at all times, getting in and out. I seen instant failures by seasoned veterans at the test site. Number one rule, don't stall the truck, number two rule, don't follow too closely or enter an intersection with heavy opposing traffic as the light will change and you will run a red light. Pull out till your shoulder on your body hits the double yellow, then cut your turn hard, you will never hit a curb this way. Mentally, alway remember WHAT GEAR YOU ARE IN. KEEP YOUR HEAD MOVING IN THOSE MIRRORS AND CONSTANTLY COMMUNICATING WITH THE EXAMINER. Don't assume nothing, open your mouth.

Rode with my dad across country a few times in the 90’s. The two I remember is an alligator in the road. I literally jumped out the seat looking for an alligator in north Texas. Sneider eggs was another one where I asked my dad wtf is that?

One really has to be an idiot to be an over the road truck driver for less than $175k annually plus layover of at least $75 per night. Perhaps older generation is getting smarter hence, the need for new and younger ignorant/idiots, who will work for peanut shells, are on a rise.

I'll be 38 soon, and I'm going to save the money to pay for trucking school. I check off pretty much all the boxes that make me a great fit for trucking. Excellent driver, unmarried, no children, and I'm cool being by myself.

Lots of home time! Every single one says that!!! Yeah if you take that home time your dispatcher will start putting you on the shine! Dudes that turn down anything don't last long!! You have to grind!! I'm now hauling aggregate and work 10-12 hours a day. I'm on percentage and make a killing! But hey you have to pay your dues guys! I never went to school. I learned on my own at my first company. My boss would study with us for an hour or two every day after work. We went to test and the lady who was the instructor said we were the best to come through there who didn't go through the school. I've been driving 16yrs now and love it still! Yeah it sucks like any job but its also the best job!! Breakdowns and rain days happen! I have a great shop and keep me rolling! Stay safe out here!❤🎉
