Deleting Your Truck... Should You?

  • When considering dpf and egr delete pros and cons there are so many factors. My truck had a dpf delete and there are some things I wish I knew prior. Not necessarily to discourage anyone from doing a delete on their dpf and egr (nor to encourage,) but there are other dpf problems when thinking about should I delete my diesel truck. I covered just a few pros and cons about a dpf delete as well as things to consider before you run out and do a dpf removal. Enjoy!

    Got tired of spending roughly 5 to 7k when my truck went into the shop for Def issues. I spent in one year close to 24k + . I had enough of it. It would run a week or 2, another issue, run a week , another issue, run 3 week's, down again. I've racked up quite a bit of miles since the less necessary crap is gone and my mpgs went from 5.6 to 9.8 depending on load or empty or BT of course. It's the best thing I've done to my truck. And yes I researched for 2 year's before doing so. Spoke with other driver's, went on forum's, spoke with different shop's, the whole nine. When I started to go negative I said enough. And did it. Haven't had an issue in 6m so far, knock on Wood.

    DPF/Def delete does not prevent exhaust gasses from recirculating back into the engine, that’s what the EGR does. While the exhaust gas would be “cleaner”, it’s still recirculating used exhaust fumes back into engine. It’s recommended that this be deleted as well to eliminate all of it entirely.

    My engine is a 565 horse Cummins ISX and it has EGR. My truck is a 2005 Volvo VNL 780 with about 2,558,000 miles on it. I just had an in-frame overhaul done on it last June so now it has new cams, rings, pistons, cylinders, head, etc. I got over 1.6 million miles on my last engine which was a crated reman back in 2012. I credit using AMSOIL synthetic oil and an OPS-1 bypass filter to its long life. My mechanics have LONG advised me to hang on to this truck for as long as I can and to stay away from DEF/DPF systems because they are money pits. I do not regret heeding that advice. I anticipate getting another 1.6 million out of this motor as well. Btw, we get it, you can neither confirm/deny/recommend about deleting wink wink nod nod. 😜 Consider me “entertained.” 😂

    • @SoCal780
      @SoCal780 Před rokem +2

      @@geraldhernandez4830 I have never used Delvac synthetic so I’m not going to say anything derogatory about it. I was told by a few “old timers” years ago that AMSOIL was the very first synthetic oil ever made and is still the best. I have been using it for about 7 years now, I think. The “conventional” method is to use “regular” oil (I used Shell Rotella) and then change it after x amount of miles (my engine recommendations were 15-20k miles but the newer engines can go further between oil changes) as it gets progressively dirtier. With synthetic and a OPS-1 bypass oil filter, the oil is filtered down to 1 micron, which keeps it VERY clean throughout the life of the oil. My AMSOIL dealer told me to change the oil after 50k miles and change the bypass filter at 25k miles. This method has worked out very well for me. My engine runs smoother and I did see an increase in mpg. Plus, the life of the engine was increased as well. Most diesel engines need an overhaul at about 1.1 to 1.3 million miles. Mine made it to 1.6, which is proof positive. I use AMSOIL Diesel & Marine and also their extended life oil filter which is good for the full 50k life of the oil. It’s not cheap, about $800 for the oil & filter but you will use it longer than you would doing it the old way. Plus, the fuel you will save, the engine performance, and the engine life extension make the cost WELL worth it. Hope this helps, good luck! 👍

    Just use a dpf/egr emulator. It doesn't delete the system. It just turns it off and bypasses it so no codes are thrown. Dealers don't even know if you have an emulator on the truck. The emulator lies to the dealers and DOT computers and tells them the dpf system is functional

California has started actively checking trucks emissions via drive-by sensors. If you fail, and stock legal trucks can fail that test easily, DOT officers do a full inspection on your engine, exhaust and a plug in test of your engine ECM. If you have tampered with the smog shit, you will get a ticket, a fine and there will be a retest date set for rig. This is for any truck that enters California. Other states will follow California's lead. I wont touch the smog equipment.
