Best video out yet with str8 forward breakdown
THANK YOU!! I never knew there are so much involved in trucking. Very informative
My husband is an owner operator in Long Beach and leased to another company but now with this AB5 situation we are ready to get him his own authority and I have felt so overwhelmed with all the information on how to get it but this video put me a little more at ease. He has a clean record and has always wanted to go OTR so maybe this is the push he needed 🤷♀️ anyway thanks again for your video. I will definitely be coming back to it and to your channel during this whole process 😁
Do u know a insurance that is good or he gonna apply with.
It is better to have a local run than otr at first.
More videos like these please. You explained this better than half the people on youtube. Thank u
Thanks, will do!
I agree.. and I’m only 5 mins in.. great job sir
The best I have seen so far. Thank you
Better than all I have seen
@@DIYSEMI Im almost ready to be active on my authority but i live in the state of Georgia and as of January 3 your no longer allowed to get your irp plate's in person you have to fill out a bunch of paper work and send to there email so i did this a week ago and i haven't heard anything back until i called this morning to only find out they are behind 2 weeks and they wont possible get to my application for another 2 weeks and my authority is to go active in a week but i have did everything thing else my question for you is can start booking loads by me having everything else but the irp plate's?
It's no wonder why we have shortage of drivers.
I have been thinking about getting my authority. I have asked numerous people what all has to maintained yearly, you’re the first person to answer the question. Thank you
I truly love when I find channels like this! Completely under-rated, and chock-full of the details I'm looking for!
Side note: It's amazing the amount of knowledge people are willing to share, basically for free. Colleges, and Technical institutes charge an arm and a leg for a crappy indoctrination...er "education", and I'm pretty sure there isn't a course on how to become the owner/op of a semi! Your channel will definitely be a tool I use in the coming weeks, thanks for the content.
thanks, if you find you need one on one personal help, I do offer that in one of my channel memberships. I don't really promote it, Just if you ever want to I'm here
I'm looking to be an o/o car carrier with a 10/9 car stinger. Starting with a quality used truck and trailer.
I went to a community college....for truck driving. there were business classes involved too...they exist. Paid like 2500. Just saying. It is out there. You don't have to be so negative about it.
This is an incredibly underrated channel, thank you so much for giving light into the O/O startup process.
Dam dude u had 14k views ... every one who watched shows have liked this video , you gave really critical information that is needed and you showed where to go to get the info ... most people wanna charge you ...thanks
Thank you
Authority is cheap. Insurance isn't bad. It's rolling before you get paid that hurts.
The insurance quote will also be based on how new your truck the newer the truck the more expensive
Hey let me just say! This is the best video on CZcams I have seen on this specific subject! I live in LA California and the ports are paying extremely well and I want to become an owner operator and cash-in. Most CZcamsrs go way off topic don't make sense and most important don't go into detail!! Thank you so much for making this video. P.S. I'm a subscriber.
Thanks for keeping things simple and without machismo and over opinionated commentary.
I learned a lot from you. Just got a job in trucking company as a book keeper, your IFTA video really helped me a lot. Please do more videos. Thank you.
Excellent tutorial video! No unnecessary distractions and straight to the point(s)!
This is how everyone who wants to impart information should do it!
On a 5 star point system, I give you 10 stars! A most excellent job very well done! Watched it from beginning to end in it's entirety.
Thank you
Too kind!
Not too kind at all, it's a fact! So many have music in the background or upfront playing, pets in the way, want to give an inventory of all they own, unnecessary info that has nothing to do with the subject on hand. All that is so frustrating, when people just need to get the straightforward! Again, very well done!

Your the man my guy. I bought my semi and thought my friend was gonna help on what to do how to start snd nope he keeps dodging the question it’s like he wants to keep it a secret 🤫 thank you so much sir!
No problem 👍
Same here.
I ask the people that I'm driving for, what are the steps to become an independent owner operator, what's the cost, how to apply for m.c,d.o.t#
And they always act like it's some miracle or some secret.
I just went and got a rig in feb2021 and applied for my m.c#,d.o.t#,and ca# and am waiting for the last permit (d.o.t#) to run legally in CA.
It's a struggle in the beginning, like learning to drive the rig and trailer then it's just a regular routine.
Wish me success and prosperity stranger.
2021 and success in the future.
@@lucasgarciajr.8242 whats your insurance like?
That cause they don't know or paid for it to be done 🤔
@@blisslimoservice1732
Hello.
I just saw your reply/question.
I've been Driving 10 years with my CDL and my record is clean.
I pay $1088 a month for my rig ins.
And put down like $2000-$2500 to activate my insurance.
Man this is a lot! How do you know your not lacking somewhere this is alot to keep up with.
Have to be on the ball.
Thank you for going everything step by step.
I never thought about splitting the insurance up until your numbers are active. That's a great way to save some money.
Im about 2 retire from my current career with a fortune 500 telecom company. And I was scoring the interweb 4 this type of indepth information on getting my own authority. I did not want 2 go the route of signing on with a company. Now I see that I have homework that needs 2 b done. Thanx 4 the detail...
I owned my own contracting company for 25 yrs under a S-corp... Honestly, everyone has their hand in your pocket.. I sold out, and am now getting my cdl.. I plan to just be a simple company man for the next 10 yrs until I retire.. owning your own business isnt what its cracked up to be. I only did it because i had a family and I needed to make enough to support them. I wouldnt have done it other than that....
Nothing wrong with that...family first
If you don't sign for the cleaning house it can be up to 2,500 in fines
Great video bud! No fluff, no drama. Appreciate that!
Thanks ✌️
The reason i want to become an independent operator is cuz i dont want to work for anyone else.
Good enuf reason
Same reason with me
But sadly when you own the business you end up working for many many others(customer)
Proudly subscribed. Thanks for all these infos. I'm currently a tanker driver, hauling hazmat and I'm planning to get my own trucking business by next year.
Hello Sab, what progress have you made with your interest in the trucking business?
Running on your own authority in my opinion is the only way to go. I felt like a slave as a company driver. You work harder when you're on your own authority but it's worth it. It's a lot of work and don't expect to get rich over night but if you can weather the storms and handle pressure then this is for you. If you just want to turn the truck off and go home and think nothing of it then just be a company driver.
And there's more incentive to endure the burden and hard work. It's all on you and you can control your loads not the company. As long as you're operating in a legal way and not breaking laws, you can run as many or less as you want. No asking permissions!
the other question I would add on the board, When should I? the advantage is that you don't have to share your truck with other drivers, you don't have to chase the trailer that your taking and search where the yard dog drivers hide the trailer, and you don't have to deal with Compliance, safety, and fleet manager.
good point...however , compliance is more important then ever when you have your authority. You still have to do it on yourself. but yes....the independence is wonderful
sounds like a huge headache for a national industry to deal with every state differently
Yes
Thanks a lot for your videos, I'm thinking about getting my own authority, now I'm not so sure if I'm ready for the next step, once again thanks for all of these wonderful explaNation
I got mine and I'm retired, if someone wants to get "old" authority I will sell ya mine !!! I hauled cars for over 40 years!
I just recently got my mc authority in June and seeing as how a lot of brokers don't work with brand new carriers it was very difficult securing loads on my own, I decided to get a dispatcher to find good paying loads on my behalf and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. For those of you just starting out in the business I suggest you do the same
So hold off on the authority?
How long did you had truck experience?
@@kprsx about a month now but I've been running constantly at good rates
@@christopherkelly5121 no I'd definitely get the mc authority then once you have that , start looking into aquiring a dispatcher. I use Strive logistics.
@@elevatedmindxbody2913 where do you find a dispatcher at?
I've been trucking for 45 years, and retired. I'm a sleep-in-my-own-bed type of guy, so when I found an opportunity to be home every night and gross $1200 a day, $6K a week for 480 miles a day, I took notice. This is a deal where I'd need my own authority and insurance, but equipment wise, all I would need is a tractor. And I have my eye on several decent and relatively inexpensive trucks, even a couple day cabs. I really enjoyed your presentation regarding the initial considerations and startup costs. Thank you.
Hi Steven, could I potentially do this with a box truck?
@@moniquemartinez7532yes
Your content is direct and refreshingly straight to the point however I believe you may want to look into whether or not intrastate authority is required in any state in which you pick up and deliver other than your home state.
"The key differences between interstate and intrastate commerce get defined by the FMCSA. “FMCSA” stands for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The FMCSA defines “intrastate” in the following manner. It's when a motor carrier performs transportation/trade ONLY within its home state."
It is required. Thank you!
Intrastate is separate...it is regulated by each individual state at all the state level..states do require it of outside carriers not based within the state. Several states don't require it at all
I just want to say thank you for the information you present. I am not thinking $ signs I am trying to make enough to put my children into private schools and college. I hope that I can build a company and a future.
You are so welcome
This guy is very very explainable way better most of CZcamsr that talks so much shit with out sense but this guy is very fit for that kind of explanation
I totally get what you're saying. More people should get their authority!!!
Scallywag!
Great video, never knew it was so many steps to get your own authority.
It seems like general liability insurance is cheap because it doesn’t cover anything lol. Great video, thanks!
General Liability covers your wealth.
finally the video I was looking for.
Best channel for truckers...love the videos...keep them coming!!!
So many regulation to stay on top of while out there making a living. Sounds like a nice little business to offer small independent truckers, one less thing for them to have to deal with
Government knows truckers make six figures a year. So they want their cut. Just like the Mafia.
Best video I have seen about trucking authority
From my understanding the form 2290 will only be paid for if you register your equipment over 55000lbs.
Under the 55000lbs you dont need to pay for a form 2290.
YES
Lawyer charges 1200 to setup an llc. It costed me 200 to do it myself.
I watch your video till the end and thank you that you do this for free that’s a lot of info we appreciated you
Only yet viewed this first presentation.
It is very good.
Thank you!
This has to be the most informative trucking video on CZcams. Great job bro. 👍🏼
You are the best even my close friends drivers didn't told me like you do
Great and simple will look at all your video thanks

WOW I was looking for something that went into a timeline of events for getting up and running ur authority - finally found your vid! Thank you so much
Just gave you your first thumbs up 👍🏽 you should of had about 14,000 likes already!

Wow, thank you!
awesome information. Thanks a billion!
I like working how i want and i like running where i want. i don't like office politics and or drama and being micro managed
Wow! Thank you so very much! Your information is thorough and straight to the point. Thank you thank you!!!!
It’s 2024 and many of those that got their DOT approval in 2021 are out of business.
Dude my perfect record first year authority insurance was 28,000. Like 9,800 down and 2,700 a month. Progressive.
Holy cow!!
Wow this is really overwhelming and intimidating I'm not sure if I want to be an owner operator anymore. It just looks like a hundred different ways you can mess up and they would take everything they can
not so bad, just take your time and don't rush it.
Hey. You should make a video showing how you do your IFTA
Did that.....here u go! czcams.com/video/4KiZGsVrV60/video.html
Sir, I can not thank you enough for sharing - a wealth of info.
Good step by step break-down. Thank you for putting the time to making this video
Thanks again for another great, easy to understand video. I am almost ready to go truckin.
Just doing review to make sure I dodn't miss anything. I think all I have left are IRP plates, IFTA and the various weight/distance states.
I appreciate the clear concise information
Right on brother. All golden info. Lots to know. Thanks for (cliffs notes)this knowledge. Appreciate your time and effort. Subscribed

I'm pretty boring actually 🤣
Best video so far 🙏🏽🙏🏽 I’m thinking about getting my truck next month brand new at that so I’m just doing some research.
So please get you ein llc dot and authority now
With the new bill in Congress. Most lease operators will have to. No more 1099s. 😔
Damn that’s a lot of things to get done
That's the truth. I said gah damn I see why people lease on.
Thank you, Great video. I learned a lot 💯.
Here in Australia, all you need is equity in your assets and buying a truck......
many cant even work out if their business plan actually makes money....
then complain because the government isnt helping them.....
If DOT regulations don't get you fuel prices will. If your OTR, married and not driving as a team. Better think twice.
Food for thought.
Thankyou for the Content
Really enjoy the colabs with Cash! You guys are giving good info
Best informative video I’ve seen I don’t even have my cdl only my clp. School starts in April but sheesh goals to be an O/o with own authority in near feature and wow i didn’t know 90% of the things here lol. Can’t wait to start my journey.
Thanks brother
I appreciate your time in this video.
Clear explanation. Much needed in this industry
Thank you for your time and knowledge, I appreciate it.
Hey informative and descriptive. Thank you .
SO I know the Big Dream is to have UR Own Authority But After Paying All These Pieces Of The Pie Whats Left. I Lease My Truck To A Carrier and Seems I Have More Time, Discounts and Money At The End Of The Day!

Really informative video. Thank you. You now have a new subscriber. We’ll done.
Such a clear and concise video! Thank you!
