I remember, my fiiends, quite well, being a musician in 1984 and driving to the studio and hearing the absolutely awful "Against All Odds,." getting to the studio and the engineer comes out and says "Have you heard Phil Collins' new song? It's fucking awesome!" Who knows why anyone likes anything? But it does me no harm, I wish Mr. Collins a lovely retirement and freedom from physical pain, which we know is considerable. PEACE

Life is full of choices. Peter Gabriel never sold out to commercialism in the way Phil Collins did. Phil probably made a boatload of money doing those garbage ballads, but he sacrificed a lot of hardcore Genesis fans in the process. Once again, life is full of choices, and he made his.

He went from being a great drummer and frontman for Genesis to singing "sappy ballads." I don't think anyone hates Phil Collins, but he made the choice to sell out. You can't expect hardcore Genesis fans to like that.

Uhhh you forgot STING Mr Collins...he was in a group at first and has sold MILLIONS of albums as a solo artist.

It doesn't help that radio stations play the same predictable Collins songs over and over and none of his great album tracks

I don't hate Phil Collins. I hate the music industry and the music press for ruining 70's prog rock and forcing some of the greatest bands in history (which once included Genesis) to play boring junk pop music instead.

I never hated Phil Collins but I did dislike his music and thought Genesis sucked with him as lead singer, thought his solo albums were slop, and cringed at the covers of his solo albums. I did like "In the Air Tonight" but got sick of it because it was overplayed on the radio.

For me, I was an admirer but not necessarily a fan in the classic sense, but I do recall growing tired of him constantly being on the radio. HOWEVER, I cannot say THAT without acknowledging that he was a hit making machine and for a stretch the dude simply had the golden touch. Fan or not I have to admit he’s a bit of a legend with an incredibly varied career.

I thought Phil Collins was boring/uncool but I never ‘hated’ him 🥺 …and also I remember falling asleep to PC concert (because I thought I wouldn’t be interested) but then I woke up to one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard…still don’t know what the name of the song is, but it had such a vibe and he sang beautifully. He definitely earned my respect.

For the drumming with Genesis 1971 to 1977. For the drumming with Brand X, with Dave Greenslade, Robin Lumley's Marscape, this is more than enough for a lifetime and a place in heaven. I dont care for the singing, but that doesn't detract from so much absurdly great drum work. Bless you for that Phil.

I went from liking some Phil Collins at the time, then in the early 2000s he was just seen as a bit naff (but weren't most 80s stars?). Now I think he's amazing and I love his music. I think there's some jealousy involved and also he got caught up with the rapid change of musical taste but now this has settled down you have to look at his catalogue and realise that he was a genius

I can't remember what year it was, but there was a General Election here in the UK, to elect a new Government Collins was very publicly vociferous about the situation and declared that if Labour won the election then he, Phil Collins, would leave the UK and go and live abroad. Labour duly won the election, but, unfortunately for many of us, Collins didn't keep to his promise and stayed on in the UK In general, I'm not a big fan of his music either, Su Sudeo, for example, is a made-up word which has no meaning ffs!.

Once he left Genesis, and went on his own. he sucked.....seriously, all of it, everything he did. That's why people hate him.
