A tribute to Pink Floyd's sound engineer Brian Humphries - with clips from my film "Pink Floyd: The Story of Wish You Were Here".
Pink Floyd recently reported Brian Humphries death. He was a lovely guy who made a trip back to Abbey Road for the documentary in 2011 .
Pink Floyd said of him "Brian worked with bands like Free and Traffic, before leaving Island Records to work exclusively for Pink Floyd. As part of his remit, he oversaw Britannia Row Studios in the late 1970s. He first worked with the band on the Ummagumma, Zabriskie Point and More recordings of 1969, and engineered the Wish You Were Here and Animals albums. In 1974 he became the band's front-of-house sound mixer on their tour late that year, a role he continued in 1975, and in 1977, when he was also the tape effects technician."

How is it possible that dark side of the moon is the greatest album ever made by anyone but wish you were here is Pink Floyd’s best album

Very sad to hear that Brian Humphries passed away. In my opinion Wish You Were Here is PF's best sounding album and the Collectors Edition of the CD is my audio reference for absolutely everything. The Story of Wish You Were Here is a great doco John! Thanks for making it.

I work in Brian's local supermarket and served him many times over the years- a lovely, friendly gentleman. 🙂
It was a shock to find out today about his passing (from one of his neighbours). 🙁
I've admired Pink Floyd (and their immaculate sound engineering standards) for decades. I served Brian for years without knowing who he was, before accidentally discovering that he was Pink Floyd's sound engineer on one of my favourite albums of all time- Wish You Were Here. (To say that this discovery blew my mind is a gross understatement! 🤯)
It just goes to show that you never know who you might be talking to ... 😉
Thanks for uploading this tribute, John- your documentary is awesome, btw.
Rest In Peace, Brian Humphries ❤

It's my favourite PF album. First heard it the year it came out, which has had that longing impression ever since.

I was a close friend of Brian and was invited to Abbey Road Studios by Brian and captured some of the special moments on my camera. The stories he told me and my family was truly amazing. On the days of recording of this show Brian wealth of knowledge surprised everybody in the studio. No one knew any of this information just Brian.

Amazing footage John. Ricks ghostly synths were the perfect partner to Davids guitar lines. Just lovely stuff!

Interesting that the pics from the original sessions are obviously Studio 3 Abbey Road and this video is shot in the modern refurbished Studio 3 Abbey Road.

Live versions on bootlegs show why they got Roy to sing it. There's a 1977 NYC MSG version that sounds like a cat's chorus. Too high for Roger & David's vocal ranges.

If I'm not mistaken, Brian would later in that doc, talk about Syd Barrett showing up out of the blue, probably a 100 pounds heavier then when the guys had last seen Syd, plus he shaved all his hair off his body, Brian said David and Roger broke out in tears upon realizing it was Syd.....Rick Wright stated in a later interview, "It was a very sad meeting, Syd kept getting up out of his chair and pretending to brush his teeth, it was very sad indeed "......Great look back at Brian....😎

Thanks for yur appreciative comment. Brian did mention that occasion in the doc, saying they were all "shell shocked" but it was actually Storm Thorgerson who talked about Roger and Dave crying. Rick's interview about Syd brushing his teeth is in my 2001 doc "PF and Syd Barret Story "

Actually Dark Side was the best selling album until Michael Jacksons Thriller. Pink Floyd had several albums that chart on the top of my favorites. Try Animals with your headphones on all the way through!! Dogs and sheep's!!
