    Interesting that they were going to have to change their name from Genesis to Revelation, hence the album title, and that they had a song called The Nice, almost in tribute to the band, which turned into The Knife. I love these little nuggets!

      And Keith Emerson was known for using knives during certain song in a Nice set.

    Another gem! Thank you John!
    I really do appreciate space being given to Ant’s perspective, as his importance to the band seemed evident from what other guys - not the least Gabriel, Banks & Rutherford - were emphasising in the other uncut interviews.
    And Ant is of course a fascinating musical force in his own right too. (and he seems a good interviewee too!)

    Out of all the Genesis members... their various solo output, my favorites by far come from the 2 main former guitarists. As much as I love and appreciate them all.

    Thank you for this interview. Anthony Phillips going on his own, allowed him to create a remarkable solo catalogue, that would otherwise never exist. Can't wait for Pt 2 of this interview.

    Ant is very interesting to hear talking, and has a good memory about tiny details that the others never seem so bring out in other interviews, I'm so sad the first part ended so quickly, I would be down to hear this man talk about every song he ever worked on with Genesis and after. His solo career is a real treasure throve. And while at it why not record a 2024 concert of him in studio, alone or with a few musicians and friends, to be poster on youtube in high definition and proper sound, he could cherry pick the songs he is the proudest of and a few of his more well received from his fans. I would also like for him to re-record on guitar his favorite compositions from the Trespass, From Genesis to Revelations, demos and last but not least The Musical Box, (there exists a bootleg of him playing it by himself and it has a life of its own) All of this could be put out as a visual feast as well as a records that I am certain many people will want to own.

      Anything else you'd like?:) Just kidding, but if you havent seen he's got a fair number of interviews out there, rock music history, progcast, cherry red records and some other podcasts.

    He is a very open and honest interviewee.
    In particular he says he was derivative.

    • @mikearchibald744
      @mikearchibald744 Před 3 měsíci

      In many ways, in many ways:) Not in the twelve string ways. But yeah, and I think he's being a little harsh on 'derivatives' which MOST music is. Not all music needs to be Ode to Joy and the greatest thing ever done. So far my favourite Ant song is "We're all as we Lie", which is 'relatively' formulaic, but with interesting flourishes and which I need to look up the lyrics to because I haven't the foggiest what the song is about. He's a much better singer than he gives himself credit for as well. Like in every Genesis song (for the most part) I tend to agree with Phil when he says they never get it quite right in the studio, which kind of makes it fun to be an 'armchair producer'.

    I feel bad he missed out on the mega rock band stardom.

    That was great. Thank you. Does Ant get any royalties from the two LP's?

      To their credit, I think, he also gets some residuals from Musical Box for his contribution.

    Looking up Ant on Amazon Music I found an album called Cinematic Ambient by
    Kevin Corcoran, Anthony Phillips & James Collins. I haven't listened yet but I can find nothing in my web searches about this album released just a couple of weeks ago. Does anyone have any info about it?

    • @mikearchibald744
      @mikearchibald744 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Not at all. It seems to be six instrumentals by Anthony and James collins and six by Kevin Corcoran. Warmth and Light is in F sharp major, thats about all I can find. Song data has some stuff, it seems to be a few weeks ago and released out of Germany. Could by like with that producer out of New Hampshire who called him up and asked him to play 12 string on some of his bands tracks. Song data says its 'not that popular and hard to dance to'. Well thats a shock.

    Didn't Anthony philips get stage fright it got two much for him which is sad because I thought he was a very good musician i wonder if he had stayed in the band he would have excelled a long with All the other band members i know that mike Rutherford took his decision to leave the band hard as they were very close friends i just think it was a shame that he didn't stay in the band

      You're right about Ant having stage fright. He talks about what happened in Part 2 of this interview. I'll be uploading it in a day or so.
