69 mustang shock tower replacement
I finally replaced the driver side shock tower in my 69 mustang the original had some bad cracks that were previously “fixed” and failed so replacing it seemed like the best option for me since the car came with new in the box shock towers when i bought it. Big step in getting this project going. As usual this isn’t a step but step but rather an overview of what went into getting this job done and documenting my progress. Thank you for watching, like, share, and subscribe. Stay tuned for more progress.

69 Mustang passenger fender gets the Eastwood fast etch rust encapsulator and epoxy primer treatment

Another panel done in epoxy primer. Still have body work to do to it but at least the surface rust is gone and treated. I wont be getting to body work until the whole car is in epoxy, but knowing that I have a rust free substrate to work from is a big win. Like I said in the intro video to this project, I’m approaching this car one panel at a time. Stay tuned for more videos on the progress.

      Aftermarket fender or original fender is the big question sometimes. I want to keep as much original metal as possible. Plus the goal is to have a running driving car for under $6,000 which is my budget for this car. So spending over 500 for a set of “new” fenders is out of the question. Doing the labor myself on my free time means it’s cheaper for me to strip down and work with the originals than to just slap aftermarket ones on it.

      the chain on my 2003 Nissan Sentra qg18de didn't have paint for the intake and exhaust. So for the sake of sparing people from taking the bottom timing cover off I gave a link count for the folks that have that chain. Needs to be properly diagnosed. I would have someone with a professional diagnostic scan tool go through the systems and see where the faults are. Hand held engine code readers are very limited when it comes to newer cars. Could be anything from a faulty cam or crank position sensor, faulty electronic throttle body or a number of other things. I wouldn’t throw parts at it until you got a diagnosis done. My sentra needed the electronic throttle body calibrated into the computer because it would not accelerate past 2,800 rpm. Not saying this is your issue, just giving an example of issues that electronic systems can cause. Good luck. DIY mechanics are not dead yet but there is more to cars these days than just checking for spark and fuel like the good old days unfortunately.

    • @dailyhondas1480
      @dailyhondas1480 Před 8 měsíci

      The going rate for a long block at my local junkyard is about 280-350 depending if they charge you for any accessories or stuff like oil pan valve cover ect. Also some places charge you for a core (your old engine). I would say it took me about 16 hours give or take. Not counting the day at the junkyard pulling the donor engine and cleaning it up. Also, allow time for sealant to cure before adding fluids to the engine and starting it up. Most sealants need a 24 hour cure time at least. It took me a week to do the whole process but that was because i only had a few hours here and there in between school, work, and family schedules. Keep in mind that when you get your replacement engine, it is a good time to replace timing belt or chain, seals, water pump, gaskets ect while the engine is still out if the car. I didn’t do any of that on this engine because it had a factory “remanufactured engine” tag and there was a sticker on the valve cover from a shop that stated last timing belt change was less than 30,000 miles prior to what was on the odometer of the donor car, so I rolled the dice and put the engine in my Tiburon as it was. Got real lucky on this one. Hope it this helps thanks for the support. Like, share, subscribe. Sorry for the long reply.
