I like what you did to the image more :) You brought out more details and warmth too. I'm not sure how to you RGB parade and that graph, but it seems powerful and I'll read up on it. Thanks again for posting!
Omg, I just see how many comments you've posted! Did you have some catching up to do? Hope all is well Richard! The RGB parade is great for the perfect white balance. This is achieved when all colors have the same level.
Wow, I can't believe how much I learned in just one minute, THANKS! It is amazing, one can work with dt for a few years and yet never knew much I didn't know :)
Thank you for still being here Richard!
I liked this video much better, you talked about what you wanted to do and then picked the module and explained the options in that module. You make is look so easy :) Personally, I like and watch ALL the dt video, right through the end. While I'd like to learn daVinci too, I don't have enough time. I think splitting the channels is a good idea as it makes checking out new video simpler when they are separated. We don't want your numbers to go down if we clicked on the wrong video. Don't worry about forcing yourself to have one new video each week. We much prefer quality and substance over having to rush something just to meet the one video per week self imposed rule. I'd rather you make time for you daughter and girlfriend over rushing a video. Family is always more important!
đŻ, family come first! I've decided to split the channels! So once a week here, and once a week on PurelyResolve!
Wow, you are fast :) I like how you processed that image. While I know I could slow down the video, I'd prefer hearing your voice and your thought of what you effect you were trying to achieve and what module you decided to use. For example "I find the colors a bit washed, so I will use the <module> to fix it". One part of dt that I am weak on is how to use the histogram properly. I know one should spread out the graph to cover the range, but the other histogram option I have no idea how or when to use them. I saw you selecting a channel and sliding the RBG part up/down, but I would have loved to hear you comment as to what you were doing and why. Keep up the great work!
I'll make a video on this, I promise!
Thanks so much!†I was about to redo 10hours of editingđ đ đ

Thanks for the shout out and showing us the thought process behind the photo edit. If I had not seen that particular scene, I would probably have liked your interpretation of the warmer tones so much more. But as it so happened, I took this shot when the wild fires in California had the smoke pretty much prevented the sunlight from coming through. The photo had been short slightly after sunrise, so the sun was not warm yet. As I generally try to aim for realism, I tried to stay true to the scene in my edit. As for the night sky image, when I open the raw file on Affinity Photo, it looks much brighter than on your screen. For night shots, I typically make five copies of the raw file, and change the exposure to +1, +0.5, 0, -0.5 and -1. Then, I do an HDR merge, and save that file as a DNG. Then I open the DNG file, and do a frequency separation and apply a gaussian blur below the high frequency but above the low frequency. That allows for the noise to be reduced without affecting the details. From there on, it is a matter of dodging and burning. Unsure if DT allows you to do these steps (I know HDR is possible) but I don't know about the frequency separation.
Thank you for your extensive reply! Much appreciated! I didn't know you shot it during wildfires. I'd taken a different approach then too. That said, all those things can't be done in darktable. However, it should be able to do it in GIMP I guess.
Is it from the video compression or do the trees in the back have some color artifacts?
Try again, let me know if you still see it!
Thanks for these how-to videos. I do NOT want to have to pay for Photoshop for the rest of my life, so I really want to learn DT.
You're welcome! I have so many videos, that should help you out a lot!
I'm trying to follow along but imo some things are not explained well/at all for a 'beginner' guide, such as the CAT module or histograms and how to interpret them. I'm struggling to warm up my white balance with the CAT module, and the colorfulness section seems to have very little effect. This isn't a bad guide and I appreciate the rest of it, just maybe it's glossing over parts that really need more explanation
One specific example is 20:15 where to add more green to the image, we go to the green section but slide the 'R' component? Why does adding red in the green section give us more green, why not slide the 'G' component? This is something I don't understand and would love a clear explanation of
Thank you, perfect for those trying to get this done in a hurry!!!!

Very nice,,,,,
Thanks!
Is there a way to get Darktable to align the frames before merging? The first time I used the feature I got blurry results, probably due to tripod shake. Lightroom did a much better job on the same image set.
Unfortunately, darktable can't do that
Like it! Hope this works well for you, Rico!
Thanks Brent, I appreciate it! I surely hope PurelyResolve picks up

good move to split
Thanks Cosmo!
very good, yes definitely better to split photo from video, will keep people engaged with one at a time.
Thanks Garry! I hope this leads to more engagement and better CTR's!
Your video title scared me, glad you purposely did that for attention. I immediately went to your PurelyResolve channel and subbed.
Awesome! I really appreciate you being one of the first to do so. Means a lot!
All the best with the new direction. I wish you the very best. My two cents: it would be better if the title of this video werenât so click-bait-y.
Thanks! I made the title this way on purpose because I want the darktable people to know I'll continue making that and the DaVinci people to know I have PurelyResolve. Also, I have contacted the Affinity Photo team and will be making a video on that (or maybe several) as well!
@@RicoResolves Sweet. Looking forward to the Affinity Photo videos. Affinity Photo recently got acquired by Canva - so don't know how that'll affect their response.
Add InkScape †please
Maybe I should!
NO, this will not be the last video you make. Clickbait shit. UNSUBSCRIBED

Hey mate, I have a specific pattern I want to overlay onto a product. Some small variations involved i.e. layers and depth of certain parts of product. Is there a way to do that?!
Yes, you can use GIMP for that
did not work for me,,since windows photo/video editor is borked I`m at a loss
