My only thoughts on this edit was that I was wondering why you didn't choose to use (adjust) filmic or sigmoid. I think you had filmic enabled..If you had just hit the auto picker for the white relative or manually tweaked it I think it would blended the sun in nicely. If that was not quite enough you might have had to also enable the hightlight reconstruction in filmic and drop the bloom slider a bit but usually only in extreme cases. Sigmoid would have been even better as it will fade out a nice smooth gradient to white with nothing clipping and it keeps nice saturation so I think in the end you might not have had to crop out the difficult blown out sun.

"Behind the scenes" I've tried all kinds of things to make the sun less dominant. I even checked the camera used and dynamic range to see how far I could push the photo. It just didn't work and kept drawing the attention. So I decided to think outside of the box.

Rico the spline you keep moving in the contrast eq is for contrast .. The Denoise spline is on the very bottom of the graph .. you drag that up to Denoise.. so there are two curves in each of the Luma and chroma tabs..one for contrast and one for denoising

I'll have another look. I tried dragging the bottom one up but didn't work.

Maybe just grab a noisy photo and use it on that... you can see in the denoise and sharpen preset...both curves are ramped up. The idea is being able to find a balance between denoise and contrast/sharpening using the two curves together. Somet imes it's hard to grab that curve and pull it up. Also for a given zoom you have those bars in the display. Only changes made in the area of the last dark bar and lower are going to be visible. If you make changes outside that area you won't see it. Robert Hutton does a really great job of demonstrating all the features of the module. It's an old video. Maybe check it out and do your own updated version to present to your audience which is substantial.
