Toyota Tundra 3.5L I-Force V6 MASSIVE Engine Issues *Heavy Mechanic Review* | 24TA07 Engine Recall
I review the new 2024 Toyota Tundra with the 3.5L I-force V6 twin turbo charged engine and discuss all current engine issues. recently these I-force Engines have been RECALLED due to complete engine failures. The Recall 24TA07 stats that Machining debris is causing main bearings to Fail. I give my opinion as a HD mechanic what is happening and why these engines are failing.

Well it's time to jump back into the new Third gen Toyota Tundra trucks because of a bombshell recall that was dropped on May 30th involving almost 100,000 trucks describing machining debris being felt in the engine during assembly and causing main bearings to fail resulting in complete engine failure.
this was happening to a number of engines since this third gen tundra's debut but Toyota was keeping a tight lip on the problem and nobody really knew what was happening but as we have learned the issues is apparently due to improper machining process and metal getting into the engines.
I also discuss the turbo problems on the 2022 models but the main bearing problems are by far the biggest issue at this point on this new engine and it is a large problem.
I show you guys a main bearing and what they look like and why they are failing but overall I am a little disappointed with the way they Toyota has been dealing with this issues up to this point.
they are not replacing the whole engine rather they are only replacing the bottom ends and re-using the top portion of the engine which in my opinion is cheap and a mistake, once metal has gone around the engine there is going to be wear on all components and I would like to see the engines replaced as a whole.
these third gen tundra trucks are not cheap and If I owned one I would want a new engine.
as of right now Toyota does not have a solution for this recall but hopefully they announce soon what the plan is moving forward with all these engines and trucks that have been recalled.
let me know what you guys think.

I have 32,000 Kms with a lot of it towing a travel trailer. I change the oil myself 1/2 way between the scheduled maintenance. Hoping I am not one of the recalled trucks cause I am about to head out on a 6 month long trip. I do feel like I am driving a time bomb though. Basically now there are no trucks to buy, GM is crap, Ford is crap and Dodge well even the name means avoid. Toyota should be buying back these vehicles. Tons of them are sitting on the lots.

Epa is the problem too tight spec for super thin oil to pass emission any fluctuation in oil pressure even if normal one will be at risk of a contact. Plus this tiny engine have lot more pushing force by square inch on there tiny bearing the oil film is harder to be uninterrup. I am pretty sure if the customer will thicken a bit is oil they will be alot less engine blown.

Toyota should have left their old realiable power plants as they were. Adding turbos that require removing the cab is a huge turnoff for me. I'll be looking for a 2014 and up Tundra with the V8, I'll never buy one of these, too complicated.

  • @TheNotSoOrdinaryCarGuy

I don't think it really matters. It performs like a beast off-road, once you put a 3.5" lift and 40s. Even with a giant heavy camper in the bed. czcams.com/video/w4zwJ1fxMPs/video.htmlsi=X8TnpZDjh8ppUfto

  • @TheNotSoOrdinaryCarGuy

It's because the extra weight of the Cummins reduces the payload. I get what you're saying though. Somehow, I think it can actually do way better than the rated numbers. But that does seem to defeat the purpose. Although, the cummins has much greater fuel range than the gas. Which makes it an ideal overlander.

You should have to pass certain tests to qualify for towing or even qualify to use a truck to be honest. People just load up their truck and/or trailer and hit the road. They do coil springs. Frames are tough, rear dif tough, trans tough, 5.7 tough. But they want them to ride like cars so they put the coil spring in the rear and they don't hold squat for weight. Rear air bags you'll be fine. I just had to do it for my camper. It does absolutely fine now!

My opinion is if you’re working the 5.7 in a truck application you need 2,000 mile change intervals and 3,000 under ideal conditions, all of these engines with low tension piston rings= same. They let to much garbage into the crankcase and the oil gets diluted to fast.
