Toyota Tundra 3.4L Twin Turbo I-Force Engine | How Does It DRIVE??

  • I review the 2023 Toyota Tundra with the 3.4L Twin Turbo charged V6 I-force engine putting out 389 horsepower and 479 lbs of torque as a Heavy duty mechanic. I list the pros and benefits of this engine while driving and describe why I like this engine and how it feels while on the road. I also describe how the suspension feels on these new Tundra trucks. very Impressed.
    What I Use:
    Engine Oil - amzn.to/4aEbtNE
    Engine Oil Filter - amzn.to/3J1nDUM
    Engine Air Filter - amzn.to/3JMmMVV
    Cabin Air Filter - amzn.to/3JMZAHh
    Gear Oil - amzn.to/3PoIcxa
    Penetrating fluid - amzn.to/3EOclkx
    Rust protection - amzn.to/3Zo0Rh6
    Towing Gear:
    10 ton Pintle hitch (2.5" receiver) - amzn.to/3r7Axvm
    7 Ton Adjustable hitch (2" receiver) - amzn.to/46i2iAf
Adjustable Pintle hitch mount (2.5" receiver) - amzn.to/3RqHGS3
    15 Ton Pintle hitch - amzn.to/45SaCqv
    10,000lbs Tie Down Straps - amzn.to/3ZBnxeh
    My Camera Gear:
    Go Pro Hero 10 - amzn.to/3ObZdJJ
    Go Pro Hero 8 - amzn.to/36grzkM
    Go Pro Accessories - amzn.to/3JLhlXo
    Sony A6400 - amzn.to/3vkqzob
Love my time with this Toyota Tundra and the 3.4L iforce engine. with the long stroke of the engine there is so much natural torque down low that the turbo lag is very minimal but when you put your foot down and those turbo kick in you can really notice all the power this engine produces. also really liked the sound of the turbos.
as for the ride quality I was very impressed, I could not believe how well this tundra soaked up the bumps and I guess the rear suspension choice of coils over leaf springs made a huge difference.
I could only imagine what the tundra TRD pro version of this truck would feel like with its specifically designed off road suspension with fox shocks I believe. anyways Really enjoyed driving this truck around town.

My dad has a 2024 which ive driven several times now. Ive driven several Gen 2's with the 5.7. This is a huge step forward in every place where it matters. Its got plenty of road manners, plenty of torque, noticeably better (but still not great) fuel economy. Its a huge improvement. Maintenance over the long term is definitely going to be more expensive due to the complicated nature of the engine, but thats just a sign of the times. By year 4 i think we will be hearing very little about this platform in terms of issues. As a mid trim truck this is a good competitor in the market.

Replaced my 2017 F-150 Ecoboost with a 2021 Tundra back in 2021. Get back to me in 5-7 more years when the reliability is proven, because I sold my F-150 at 138,500'ish miles because both the turbos went out and they wanted $7,000 to replace and repair the shit the turbos destroyed when they went out. Since most of them require premium fuel and have direct injection, there is extra mandatory maintenance that the vast majority of customers will not due because they don't know they need to do it, or they are unwilling to pay for it. Second, most people that drive vehicles that require premium do not put premium in it, and by 100,000 miles the damage is done and the engine is gone.

I pulled a flat bed trailer with 2 utvs on it. Total weight was only around 5000 pounds but it was rock solid and no lack of power. I like the oil pressure gauge but honestly never had oil pressure problem in my 30+ years of driving a range of vehicles. I have read there is no trans temp gauge on the new Tundra. The Fords seem to have this standard and for someone who tows, I have seen many people cook their transmission. Really like to see a factory gauge or even in the digital display like our Pacifica has. I watch while towing in my 12 year old F-150 with factory aux trans cooler and once up to normal it stays there even on hot hill climbs. Interesting on the ride quality, kind of expecting anything that can handle 1800+ lbs like my F-150 in the bed will ride poor empty.

The Toyota T 100 Drove nice too.. Did people want a V6 in a big full size Truck. NO. Do people want a v6 in a big truck now. NO.. These pickup are big mini van scoccer mom people carriers. All the functionality for a contractor or Outdoor person is gone. The back Seat is the pits vs the pre 2014 Tundra. An little things all add up that it's not as refined as the 07 to 14 tundra. Load that thing up with some Wood or other heavy things. Like a tote of water. The New Tundra is so soft. Again it takes away from the functional use of what a truck is for. We had to put Air bags under the rear to keep the front end from lifting and getting light. A v8 with it's mass doesn't have that issue. There are advantaged to some extra mass over the steer tires.
These new trucks remind me of the big 1970's cars.

I’ve driven both recently, several ‘21 TRD Pro’s (b/c I thought I wanted 2nd gen). Today I drove a ‘23 TRD Pro. It’s far superior, in EVERY respect. Handling, ride, acceleration, tech, all of it, the new gen is incredible. It just is - Toyota hit a home run!! Absolutely love it!

My tundra work truck has 200k on it. When it dies I'll be buying a used 5.7 with 50k on it over this truck.

Looks are subjective Right models and color they’re some of the best looking trucks out there imo. There’s a silver capstone in my area with some aftermarket add-ons and slightly larger tires it’s the best looking truck around. Guy told me that owns it he gets compliments all the time

You don't see the Gen 1 Tundra guys have so much animosity towards Gen 2 Tundras. For whatever reason anyone that has a 2nd Gen Tundra just hates on the 3rd Gen. People forget that when the 3URFE first came out in 2007, it was snapping camshafts, Air injection pumps were failing, among other things. But Toyota figured those issues out and it became reliable. Just like I think this V35A-FTS will eventually become a solid engine.

I've been having my '08 since new. My truck has never been in the shop. Not one problem so far. I have my eye on the 3rd gen though. It's the only 1/2 ton on the market i'd buy ,v6 or not.

Interior is ugly. Plus, center screen, looks like Toyota just dropped it in, rather than fit it in. And if you don't pay up, Toyota puts in a stupid small screen with a huge plastic frame. And last, be careful spinning the tires on ice up there in Canada... you don't want to break it. 😉
