What makes a GREAT buffer?
Buffers offer a solution to signal degradation caused by long cable lengths and big pedalboards. However, the some of the most commonly used buffers do more harm than good. Today, we’re putting 3 commonly used buffers head-to-head against a high quality standalone buffer, to prove that the type of buffer you use matters.

Sounds like a Rockman CLN1 setting….
Very very close. Mixing desk , 2” tape and mastering differences aside, that gtr tone is pretty spot on.
Dean Parks is awesome!!
"How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat!!!"
My pedalboard is a scratch mat I have stolen from my cat.
The one amp that sounded worth a damn in this line of amps is the Fender Pro Jr. I like that amp. You can shit can all the others that EVERYONE seems to love for some lame reasons. I know they are top sellers those Hot Rods - but I still hate em.
The problem is the amp is still a “Hot Rod” type amp. I have NEVER liked those amps because I hate the way they sound AND how they are made. The classic PC Board mounted tube sockets (cheap and problem prone) and the cheezy push button boost and the sterile sound common to all those DeVille style amps and cheap bottom line speakers round out the lackluster features. Moreover, I never thought any pedal helped the mediocre tone of these amps. I once bought a Blues Deluxe, same platform and hated it. I put in NOS Tungsol power tubes and NOS RCA and similar quality 12AX7s and put in a JBL D-120 speaker. Still sounded like crap.
Amp and cab modelling were the tricky part, but pedals are generally just really simple circuits. Circuits that are extremely easy to replicate digitally. And with how far they've come in getting digital amp models to sound almost exactly the same as the real thing, the pedals can be perfectly replicated with today's tech. And I say this as someone who loves and collects analog gear. Playing a digital effect through my tube amp and cab sound exactly the same as playing the "real" analog version of that same effect through the same amp and cab
Incredible interview, much obliged!
my idol,,till this day
Vahlbruch pedals in Germany are meeting these nice buffer specs too
Great info thanks
Leave it to white people to of course save Black people.
There are two acoustic guitars uncomfortably numb? That’s strange, I can’t hear them.
if i have the fuzz and distortion pedal going in front de the amp and the rest of the modulation, reverb and delay pedal in the effect loops, where should i place the evelope filter and the compressor? hope you can help me out
I don't think they compare one is a 300w speaker and the other is 200w . The new EVM black label would be a better comparison and would have current relivent information for a consumer
He also played the last part of the guitar solo on “One of my turns” because David Gilmour “Couldn’t think of a good part to play” according to Mr. Gilmour himself.
This is an excellent interview with one of the outstanding guitarists of this generation. Amazing!!!! Thanks for this.
sensacional !!!
I must say the best Strat ive played is the Commanche but i feel like im cheating with those glorious pickups. Leo was a genius.
Eric Clapton asking you to play guitar on his record.
that explains why it had a diff swing to it.
The funny thing to me is that the worst sounding buffer in this comparison (in my opinion) was the Klon Centaur, the most expensive pedal here by far. The BOSS and Ibanez buffers definitely weren't perfect, but the Klon really did a number on the tone.
Give me the nigit, sounds like something from Frankie valley and the Four Seasons. It puts me in the mind of that
What a great story :)
My man doesn't use the upper middle fretboard.
Wny didn't he play an example??
Great interview! Dann Huff is such a gifted musician. Absolute all time favorite guitar player!!!!
Where does a looper fit into this?
Check out Steve's work on I Want You by Brother's Johnson. Its superb.
I would get a £16 tuner it's really good and works just as good as a £150 pound tuner.
I simply do not have the money for these pedals I would go bankrupt.
Where's the boss sd1 super overdrive but OCR is really good tho.
Wow, Lee played on some mega hits,
These pedals are too expensive and we do not have the money for them can you do one with cheaper pedals for the person who cannot afford expensive pedals.
LOVE Le Ritenaur and Dave Crusin days. also his live show with Steve Lukather is epic with Little Wing
This makes total sense! Also I always noticed that my dry/wet mix ratio seemed to change when stereo summing with less effect heard in the mix. Tried just using the L output and that sounds much clearer while keeping the effect mix as intended! Thanks.
I depends if you want to sound like Nashville
Now I can wrap my head around this, what he played for Steely Dan is beyond my understanding
He played on the only two great/listenable songs on that album IMHO. I’ve played The Wall twice .. that was enough. Spoken word “singing” with music as an afterthought, is my impression. Am I being too harsh? I can’t listen to anything after “Wish you were here” 😀
Run like hell is a bad ass song too.
What effects?
They also brought someone in to play the Nylon Guitars on The Wall, Dave thought his playing did not make the cut.
❤❤❤👍👍👍🏆💯⭐
I’m so impressed by musicians…that’s one talent that passed me up totally😂
Hey Mason! Question if you get a chance. When splitting a guitar signal for parallel processing using an ABY box, would you recommend getting an active ABY box which already contains a buffer or do you think it would be better to go for a passive ABY box and buy a separate buffer?
