I'm going to make this when we go camping this fall. I've wanted to cook beans over a campfire for a long time. They look delicious.
Thanks for watching and leaving this note. Hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
Awesome pot-pie... looked delicious. I really like that you used fresh vegetables. Great demonstration of prep to final product. Looks amazing, well done. Thank you for sharing. Take care Frazier D. Friend... 🇺🇲
Thanks Jason. It’s good to hear from you. Hope you and your family are well.
@moderntentcamping ... Riley graduated from Jr. high school on Thursday, my wife Stacie graduated from RN school Saturday. Everything is going good... Thank you. I hope all is well with you and your family as well.
@@redwhiteblue7831 Congratulation’s to them both. Important milestones in life.
We love a good chicken pot pie Frazier. Your recipe looks like a keeper. I don't think I'll use green beans in mine either. I've never been a fan of them in gravy. It's great that you can do your videos at home, and stay out of the heat, and all the walking. You have so much knowledge to share, and probably some good stories you could tell. Anyway, take care of your health, and have a great Summer. Post another video when you're inclined to. Thanks!
Thanks mrbr. It’s good to hear from you again. For most of my life, I would get an occasional craving for a chicken pot pie. And most of the time, I’d but a frozen pie from the grocery store. I’ve tried almost every brand available but never was satisfied. But when I first tried this recipe, I was hooked. It really is a great-tasting meal. Thanks for all your support.
Wow, looks delicious. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for the note.
Mr Douglas you said you WAS an avid tent camper for over 55 years. Are you saying you're not going to be going camping anymore? I liked this recipe and I'm putting it in my camping recipes notebook. I'm also preparing to adapt my storage to your use of milk crates. Thanks for all your hard work sharing your experience over the years.
Yes, I just returned from an extremely hard trip. Fortunately, I had family members to help me because I couldn’t do kit by myself. Everything was hard - even walking to the bathroom house. I am sad to say - my camping days are over. But I have many great memories. Thanks for watching and writing.
Best one yet
Thanks Cindy. I’d have to say that you are the person - more than anyone else - that pushed me to do more cooking videos.

You can cut down the upright poles three or so inches and that will eliminate most of the gap between the sides and ground.

I’m glad you found this video helpful. We used this tarp system for 20+ years but have now moved up to a kitchen shelter tent. And we are much happier. You may want to check out a few of my recent videos on kitchen shelters. Thanks for the note.
I am from another state and I have been there many times with my parents. Great place to take a camper trailer. People next to us were always nice. People who worked there and park rangers were real nice. Great place to take children. Many things for them to do there. The only place I would go if I went camping again.

Thanks Jason. I’ve got a few more ideas for campfire cooking videos. Currently working on chicken pot pie. Have you ever made one? Kinda fun. We’re having problems with car and home air conditioning. Not good in Alabama summers. House seems ok now but car still doesn’t work after spending over $2,000. Hope they can figure out the problem. Regards to your family.
@moderntentcamping ... I've made many chicken pot-pie dinners in my dutch oven. No AC is no fun. That's crazy they haven't fixed the problem after spending $2,000 Hope it is fixed soon. All is well here, hope all is well with you and your family.
I just love navy beans, this will come in handy
It was very good and made enough for another 2 meals. But next time, I’ll either cut mu ham into bite size pieces before frying or use sausage. Thanks for watching and posting this note.
my lord those peppers at your store are CHEAP!!!! We live in NH and they are a $ more/pound...
Interesting. Didn’t know there was such a difference. I guess fresh fruits & vegetables are cheaper down here. Thanks for watching and sending the note.
A little trivia, the navy bean, received that name after the navy spent time researching beans with the highest protein.
Interesting fact. Will try to save it to impress someone some day. Thanks.
Jeez nothing like roughing it, don't forget the kitchen sink =)
Thanks for watching.
Nice job Frazier those sure looked good!
Thanks Shannon. How are you doing? I missed getting together with you guys but I’m glad you are continuing the tradition. Next time, I think I’ll use sausage. Take care.
I can’t complain lol.. yeah we missed having y’all there as well but understand. We all are pretty busy and have stuff going on this year so unfortunately I do believe we probably won’t have it here or in Tennessee. Hopefully we can do it again next year. Yeah sausage sounds great, I remember my grandparents love to cook and eat these all the time. Seems like every time I would go over their house that’s what they would be having for dinner. Gotta have that butter bread to go with it too lol..
Great video Mr. Frazier . You can never have enough table top space !!
Hey Jeff. Since our last discussion, I’ve narrowed my knife interests to Working Knives of the American Frontier. Now I’m looking for affordable antique knives made by reputable makers. Just won an old buffalo skinner made in Sheffield England on eBay. How are you and your family? Thanks for watching.
That looks good. Navy Bean Soup was one of the first dishes my mother taught me how to make using dried Navy beans sorted the evening before and soaked overnight, Vidalia onions, diced tomatoes and pork sausage with sage and a little pepper. We'd kneed the sage into the sausage and then pinch it into little balls about the same sized as the diced onions and add it to the pot after cooking the beans a few hours. The tomatoes are added last, just long enough to warm through. The resulting broth was better than anything bought at the store. We'd serve it with homemade bread slathered with butter and a thick slice of onion. Made that for one of my professors back when I went to college and the face he made after biting into it was one of my best memories from those days.
Yummmm. That sounds great! I think I’ll use sausage next time. I have tried to cook this soup many times with dried beans and never could get them tender. I learned that they are different from pinto beans. My wife never soaks pintos and they get tender after about 2 hours cooking. Thanks for the note.
@@moderntentcamping It does take about 3 hours of simmering, but if can beans work well for you then I would just reduce the water a bit and start with the sausage. When it's no longer pink add the beans, onions and then the tomatoes at the end.
Great video Mr' Frazier
Thanks Jeff. How have you been doing?
That looks absolutely delicious. I might have to try that. Thanks for sharing the recipe frazier Hope you are well.
Thanks for the note Jaqueline. It’s great to hear from you again. I’m doing well. Hope you are too.
I really enjoyed your new format camp cooking video, Frazier Douglass! It's great that you can still share your knowledge of campfire cooking, while not leaving your home. I know there is still a lot of work involved in producing these videos, so please make it as easy a task as possible. That bean stew looks fantastic, and we will be trying it out sometime soon.

There's one advantage with the Opinel, completely impossible to fall in love with 😉😉
Yeah, I don’t think I’ll ever think of one as pretty.
I just realized that I omitted an important feature to consider before buying a folding camp table -- Table Height. I assumed that all folding tables are 30 inches high but I have subsequently discovered that some folding “camp tables” are less than 30 inches high.
Ok, Thanks.
I also use a work platform. You suggested using one in a video a long time ago and I LOVE using it. It works so well for my set-up that i've thought about getting another one but these days, at my local Lowes, they're going for $169.00. A bit too much for a table in my opinion. I'm hoping it'll go on sale or that I can find a better deal elsewhere. Thanks again for the recommendation. I'm EXTREMELY happy with it. Good call!! Camp on Sir!
Thanks for the note AJ. It was nice to hear that someone else liked my suggestion. Hope you have a great year.
Someone insisted I had to have a metal roll top camp table from Colman. I hated it… the rattling sound of the metal roll top & as you mentioned the cross support bars blocking ability to slide legs underneath. So I replaced it with a KingCamp bamboo top folding table that has all the legs and hardware attached to the bottom of tabletop planks. It folds up & stores into a bag that takes up a similar amount of space as your metal roll top metal table. I love how easily this stores in my minivan camper. If I ever need to get another table I would either get the same thing, or one of those with the top folding in half.
That’s good to know. I’ll look more carefully at that king camp table. Thanks for the note.
I just looked at the king camp bamboo table on Amazon and it is only 2 feet high? Is that the height of your table?
@@moderntentcamping NO, it’s adjustable. It’s highest is the height of your metal table, the lowest is about 2’. I’ve only used it at the highest/regular height where you can sit at it on a folding chair like it’s a small desk. I’ve used it camping, rest area cooking, and even as a table in a room at a friend’s that only had a twin bed & a bunch of medical equipment like air tanks & concentrators. I don’t think I can send a link in YT.
@@karinhart489 Sounds good. I’ll look further. Thanks.

Thanks mrbr for your continued encouragement and support. I look forward to your comments. Hopefully, we will be going on a trip with several kids in a few weeks. Hope to make a video about camping with kids.
Great camping tips as always. I used to put my stove on top of my cooler or a large bin, but always needed access to them while I was cooking. My mother bought me a fold in half table as a gift and it’s been amazing. My biggest upgrade has been a small enclosed trailer. I have room for multiple coolers and a memory foam mattress. It’s a 5x7 so it tows very easy, I can keep my camping gear in it all the time, and when I get home I don’t have to unpack it or clean my vehicle. It’s also a nice place to secure things in the event you have to leave camp and head into town. I have a bad back and an air mattress simply does not work for me, so the memory foam mattress makes the trip feel luxurious.
Thanks for the note. That trailer idea sure sounds appealing. Have thought about it several times but haven’t figured out where to park in near my home. Take care..
I've enjoyed your content. Informative, no nonsense, and from experience. Keep up the good work!
Thanks butlerdawgs for your note. It masked me happy to hear you enjoyed it.

Hello there, I wanted to send you a quick note to let you know how much I enjoy your camping videos. I especially like Ava’s cooking (maybe minus the jalepenos 😂) and I appreciate you circling and showing in your videos your favorite camp sites. It’s very helpful for our planning. Sometimes, you never know what kind of site you are going to get until you’re there! We are just outside of Birmingham in Moody, AL and we like camping somewhat close to home. I look forward to more videos from you as our summer season takes off! Happy Camping - Shane and Molly
Shane & Molly, Thank you for your very kind note. Eva cooks great-tasting Mexican food and I wish we had more cooking videos but they are very hard for me to make. Typically, I take several weeks to make a video and need the time to compose my narrative and take the photos and videos. But a cooking video typically must be done all at one time and if you miss a photo, it’s too late to go back. Currently, I’m working on a video about camp tables. Don’t know how many more campground videos I can make. I’m 78 years old and my legs are failing me. It’s very hard to drive far away from home or stand long enough to set up camp. But I plan to keep making videos. Maybe, we’ll devise a way to do more cooking videos. Thanks again. It’s so nice to hear that my videos are appreciated. Take care.

Love the video and information given. I will be going in June! I want a larger tent site with water and electric. You said back end 24ft are larger, do you remember any of the site numbers?
No, I’m sorry but that was a long time ago. As I recall, campsites vary in cost and the more expensive sites were the larger ones. All of the tent only sites were small. Those rated for a mid-size RV have more room. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
How did you make the table leg extensions?

Buy a 20x16 tarp and use it as a roof for your tent. Have one end lower than the other (where it makes sense) so if it rains your tent doesnt get very wet, if at all, and you have a dry area to sit outside the tent.
This is a common practice in the Smokies where it rains several times a week. We just sit in our kitchen tent or go for a ride. Thanks for the comment.
@@moderntentcamping It is. I live in the Blue ridge mountain area so it's not uncommon for afternoon storms to pop up out of nowhere.
This is very helpful for my family😊 Also Hello Frazier
Hey Angie, Thanks for the note. You picked a very old video but most of this information (other than prices) is still accurate. One point I didn’t make is, I’d buy 2 6P tents rather than one 12P tent. It would be easier to fit 2 6p tents on most campsites. Incidentally, do we know each other?

Thank you Gideon . I don’t recognize your name. Have you followed my channel long?
Thanks for sharing your hard-earned wisdom. You're in our prayers for recovery from mobility and driving issues, and for the Lord's mercy and grace while you are in this time of trial. I can think of many things you could share on your videos. Your book, Basic Tent Camping, is a wealth of information to draw from. I find this book a treasure trove of wisdom.
Thanks Kelly, I don’t recognize your name but it sounds like you have been a follower for some time. I haven’t looked at that book for some time and think about how much my ideas have changed over the past 10 years. And I wonder if there is anything of value in that book. It needs revision buy someone else will have to do it. Thank you for your prayers. This aging process has been hard for me. I was in such good health just a few years ago but it has declined so quickly - to the point that I can’t walk very far at all without resting. I’ve been to several Doctors and the only answer I get is arthritis. Doesn’t sound bad at all? Oddly, my younger sister has almost identical symptoms and has had several surgeries including a new hip and a new knee without much relief. Thanks for your note.
@@moderntentcamping My name is actually John, but our CZcams account is associated with my wife's (Kelly's) e-mail. We've been watching for about 5 years and have also watched many of your saved videos. Your book is very relevant in my opinion. For example, the sections on knots, camping ethics and even tent types best suited to car camping are very useful. I especially appreciate the text concerning camp etiquette, and how to respond to situations where camp neighbors lack such common courtesies. My wife and I continue to pray for you and Eva. Our Lord is acquainted with suffering and will walk through our trials with us. This sounds so cliche, but it reflects our life experience. I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease about 3 years ago, and though it has not impacted me too much physically at this point, it's something that is a trial that the Lord has helped me through. Blessings to you and Eva. My heart is that He'd heal your arthritis.

I don’t use a wok so I can’t give a good answer - but I’d say it depends on how many different meals you would use it. If you’d only use it for one meal, you might want to leave it at home. But if you’d use it for several meals, you’d probably want to bring it. And, I would only bring the smallest one that would do the job. Hope this is helpful.

I'm with your wife on this one as far as washing goes. I hate to stink 😅 I've learned some tricks, one of the most important being to wash the armpits and butt with dishsoap to break the natural oils on the skin so you can more effectively wash away odor causing bacteria, but I'm not sure what that would be outside without plumbing. Castile soap might work but that might not be wise to get anywhere near a lady's poom poom. I can wash with 1000ml of water because I practice. That's how bad I hate being smelly 🤣🤣🤣 Edited to add: I don't mix the soap with the water. I put the water in a 500ml peribottle, the kind we get in the hospital after childbirth, and wet the skin, soap and let it sit there while I soap up the other bits prone to odor, just like dishes, it works better if it sits there for a minute, and then after the stinky bits are soaped up, I use just enough water to make suds and rub. Since with just enough water to run the subs in a way that gravity naturally flows. Then do it again. That's the first 600mls. Then use the 400ml to wet a suddz presoaped cloth that's no rinse to wash everything starting with the cleanest parts and moving to the dirtiest parts and you can wipe off whatever you can't rinse off and you're not sticky and you feel clean. Might be worth a shot if she's willing.
I think this was the last walk-in site we have camped in. Since we pack our food and kitchen gear in the back of our car, we only want sites where we can back the car up to our kitchen shelter. And -- we don’t stay in campgrounds without showers, in fact, I’m a little particular about the showers. I want a comfortable shower and bathroom. Thanks for watching and posting this comment. Hope you have many fun camping trips in the future.
Glow sticks are also excellent for marking guy lines so you don't trip on them. I also like to use those outdoor patio solar charged lights you put in the ground for the entrance to the tent and to mark guy lines.
Yes, you are right. Those guylines can be a pain - literally! One of our long-term goals has been to set up our camp so that we are less likely to trip on guylines. Not an easy task but we have made some progress. Thanks for watching and posting this comment. Hope you have many happy camping trips in the future.
@@moderntentcamping Same to you!!
I bought a portable air conditioner called "Newair" and it has a remote. You don't have to worry about it spilling because it somehow processes the water it pulled from the air. I think it weighs around 50lbs so it's very, very heavy for me. But, we were out for almost 2 weeks and that's too long to be hot. I got about halfway into this video before I started to chuckle. My momma can cuss you up one side and down the other without a single obscenity and you reminded me of her reviewing this product 😅... Edited to add: On a serious note, even with an air conditioner, in a synthetic tent in the sun it didn't help as much as I would have thought. Maybe a 10-15 degree difference. In the shade and at night, it was a whole different ballgame. The trouble I had was covering the mesh so I bought a canvas tent and that's nice. It's actually comfortable.
We decided not to carry this fan anymore because filling the reservoir, emptying it, and drying ate sponges was a hassle. The wet t shirt or towel does just as well. Never had the space to pack an air conditioner. Thanks for watching and posting this note.
