Great to see your video pop up in my feed Frazier! It's like having a friend visit. In this case a very wise in the ways of camping friend. I really enjoyed your tips on setting up tents on long asphalt or concrete pads. That is really handy to know. Thankfully, I haven't had to camp at one yet, but now I'll have a better idea of how to do it when we do. Thanks for all you do to support family tent camping.

Thanks for the video. I am a disabled camper in a wheelchair and paved tent sites are ideal for those in wheelchairs. In my chair, I cannot traverse over dirt or gravel. As for staking tent, between cots and other heavier items are placed inside negate the need to stake it down. I always add ground cover under the tent and add a waterproof carpet inside tent. As for a kitchen canopy, I do use a pop up shelter and use guylines to available trees.

Hey what a great video on how, and where to set up a tent on an asphalt parking pad. I wonder how many times it took with your 55 years of tent camping to perfect this knowledge, and how many times the water puddled up on you. I had a trip expecting snow, but it rained all night and woke up in a puddle. 😅😂🤣

Thanks Jason. The answer is that we have had soaked bedding many times. It rains a lot here in Alabama and when it rains we get a lot. And - almost every state park in Alabama and Tennessee have these paved RV pads. I hate them but decided that I had to adapt to them. A few months ago, we camped in a Tennessee state park that required all tents to be on the paved pad. Hence this video. Best to you and your family.
This video was great. Lots of information is shared here. I was wondering at the beginning on how you were going to stake down the tent on the Concrete or asphalt pad. Love the extension with the carabiner you made.

Thanks for the hints in dealing with parking pads. I never through to extend out my lines before. I use the same indoor/outdoor carpet for my larger tent. For my 2 person, I use a padded picnic blanket. Love having them to also keep the inside of the tent clean and more comfortable under foot.

@@moderntentcamping it was very good. I had thunderstorms at night on my overnight camping stay at a state park in Illinois, but the weather was perfect once I got to Michigan. It threatened to rain in my while setting up camp on my way back, but didn’t. I didn’t get heavy rain until I got closer to home. I emailed you a few pictures.
What are the “special techniques” you mentioned?
I mentioned them in the video. For example, setting tent up with one side over the high edge of the concrete and rolling tarp up under a high edge.Thanks for watching.

@@stoneg8mom 10 inch nail stakes. Sold in most camping supply stores. Gravel pads are much better than paved. Water should soak into pad and not puddle under tent. Have fun.
