I'm a BBA student specializing in accounting in Canada. My school does not require a internship or whatever you call it or co-op to graduate. My program is online, is there a way to do this sort of thing to gain experience in the US or Canada for someone like me? Anything to sign up for as a student?

Unfortunately it seems the big 4 response to the shortage is sending as much work to india as possible.

I'm in EY India. Currently a internal auditor (financial services) consultant after 3 years of experience . I only have a bachelors of commerce degree in accounting. Even I plan on staying for 3 more years to become a manager. What kind of specialization (certificate like CIA or CPA or CISA or Acca) should I do to not get stuck in my career? I prefer working with Europeans clients compared to Americans. Indian clients are fine but depending on manager, it can get toxic. Indian CA is super hard hence I couldn't clear it. CIA is on top of my list for now. Please advise

What are the chances of you getting a full time offer in a tax internship (I’m going to have one occur in Spring 2025)? If you work hard, do you get it? Or is it harder to get a full time in tax compared to audit?

Brother i have worked for the SALT team for 1120 returns for a big 4. Trust me it's crazy, there's hardly a constant. With more than 50 states and other small territories, each tax form is different, no 2 jurisdictions are the same, each with their own rules. Seperate returns are quite simple and easy, but doing combined returns for SALT is crazy.

If you are in India, think twice before joining the big 4 firms, there is no work life balance. Better go to Wells Fargo, Ryan LLC

I’m not seeing a shortage. I just got rejected by all the big 4, and I’m already a CPA with smaller accounting firm experience. Seems like the shortage is only with low paying jobs. If there’s no financial incentive to become a CPA. There’s no incentive.

Hey there! So I just started Big 4. I'm at Deloitte as a Tax Consultant. Won't lie Im a bit scared cause since its my first busy season I dont think Im mentally prepared. I'm honestly trying to be there for 3-4 years while looking into the Audit side. I plan to transfer to a different city once I pass my CPA and get some some experience.

However, I feel like the definition and roles of experienced associates is dependent on teams. With larger teams, like if it was for Raytheon and Goldman Sachs for example, first year seniors/experienced associates do mostly preparation don’t participate nor get included in client calls/communications. Also another thing I notice is that audit first years, in the Deloittes and PwCs especially, with less than one year of experience have 50% or less utilization rates given that the firm overhired and didn’t put them on a typical busy season schedule until they reached the one year mark. That way, I think upper management needs to be considerate and understand that not all experienced associates and seniors should be judged the same. For example, my start class had a third of associates were staffed on only one private for the whole busy season (note they also got a handsome raise and a small performance bonus) but all a sudden get a bunch of tasks expected out of associates they never had a chance to do or ask questions on until they reach the title of experienced associate or their first year. Do you always say that the experienced associate that gets handed the most work always should be the better ranked even though the workload and responsibilities they get is not in any of their control?

Thanks for sharing! Agreed that experienced associates are expected to solve problems with limited supervisor help. Something that I may find helpful, and I’m trying to better on, is to present your reviewer with a list of questions in a professional format before the meeting so that they don’t have to scramble for support during the meeting and decrease turnaround time. Your videos are very insightful that there are so many discussion points that come out of them.

This is an awesome channel, I just liked and subscribed. My question: I'm on track to have my Masters Degree by 31, so would be starting Big4 at 32 as a completely new associate. Do you recommend just going into industry? Would someone in their early 30s just starting at Big4 be completely out of place? You can be brutally honest, thank you. 🙏

CPA exam attempts is different from the number of accountants. Many accountants are finding success in the field despite not being a CPA. I agree that people going into accounting may be declining, in general, but I think it's important to acknowledge that nuanced difference.

My grades weren’t good enough for Big Four. No worries. I have a great life as a sole practitioner.

I think many times it’s who you work with and the engagements you’re on …..my managers are toxic we work 60-80 hours year round hence why even tho I wanted to make manager my work life balance is almost negligible……I wish I could stay till manager but at this point if I last a couple months again I’d call myself lucky

Hey Chris, Im glad to see you thriving. I have recently begun my internship at a mid-teir firm as a tax intern. So far it is alright but the journey into the big city is what I look forward to the most. In ragards to your insight in this video, would you say a tax assiciate may learn as much of a company as an audit associate? even if we are more on the recieving end of the information as opposed to making sure they are accurate before quarterly reports? Thank you.
