- The game ended with an instructive and surprising tactical pattern which could have been defended against, but…
My next tournament is starting in a week. I will be playing the 2019 Zagreb Championship. Needless to say that I’m going to be one of the weakest players, so I really have to prepare as much and as well as I can. Apart from sessions with Matej, my coach, and training myself, I will be playing as many training games as possible to get in the calculation mode before the tournament.
I will be finishing the e4 series (finally!) on the 31st of May, and on the 1st of June the d4 series and the Endgame series are going to start. The d4 series will begin with the King’s Indian Defense, and the endgames are going to start with the basic principles; rule of the square, opposition etc.
They will be interrupted by my tournament games, but I will record d4 and the endgames whenever I’m not playing a tournament!

30:28 was very funny, I think I would have had a heart attack.
:D
Your videos are the best, most instructive for learning chess. I do miss the Zagreb cannon, though. You should record at noon more often :)
:) :) :) the famous cannon, favorite tourist destination, and his office is right below
Thank You, Very Good Fortune be with You in the Tournament& Blessings Your way from Oregon! ... Mike.
Nice game ... and I'm looking forward for the endgame series... good luck
One idea against this variation for black is not to castle kingside and not to fiancetto the dark square bishop on g7, instead put your light square bishop on f5 thus immediately challenging the white bishop on d3. If he takes you have an open g file to work with and a strong center when you go e6. Your king can castle queenside or stay in the center depending on the circumstances. This variation will be much more challenging for white and more aggressive for you.
I know that and I play it in most tournament games. But then after Qb3, Qb6 there are several tactical lines which cause black issues in my opinion.
Thanks Stefan. I get a lot of value from your games. I see some similarities with the way you agonise over what move to play when there is nothing obvious. I too play the Caro Kann but because of my much lower ability I come across the exchange a lot. As it was, this game turned out interesting for me although it is meant to be boring. Well done spotting the tactic at the end. I like the way you were disappointed that he blundered. My only request is that you use arrows more in explaining your ideas - sometimes I couldn't quite grasp what you were saying. Thanks again.
the good side in being the "worst" in a competition is that you're putting all the pressure on your opponents, it's they obligation to beat you, but not yours to beat them. This kind of psychological play is very often use in soccer, that's why we see a weak team beating a giant and millionare team with some frequency. Here, in Brazil we call it "zebra" lol, anyways... try to use this in your favor ;)
It will be the same situation for me next week. I hope they feel the pressure as you say :-)
Why didn‘t you play on move 25 Re8? This would have put additional pressure on the white rook on e1 and I think would have given you another option. But this said - frankly, I am not really a routined player (rating somewhere around 1200 to 1300, I guess) - my calculation is not that deep... Qh2 I also totally missed...
Nice game mate, All the best for your upcoming tournaments!!!. What type of training you do with your coach?. Can you make a video on that?. It will be helpful for self studying students.
I am considering that. I actually want to record our sessions:) But I have to see what he thinks about that first.
On move 20, what do you think about ...Nxd3 ? I think its winning a pawn for black, but if bishop takes bishop then takes rook with an attack on the queen
Thats literally exactly what he said he missed in the analysis
Watch the whole video ;)
Lennart Beumelburg sorry hehehe 😓😓😓
I must admit I don't share your fondness for the type of positions arising after ...e5 and exchanges. Example at 7:52 for example. I would love to play white here. Just take twice on e5 and then play Nf3 and maybe Be3-d4 to neutralize dark-squared bishop and blockade d4. Seems like a very safe slightly better (maybe more) += IQP for white to play. Having said that I overestimate these positions a bit and black can probably play and save these positions with active and accurate play. Still for my style just seems like too daunting of a task but I admire those that can play these positions successfully.
Very good game!!! I think you hace this tactic earlier, right?
Perhaps. Don't remember really.
19:43 - taking the bishop wins a pawn!
Can you make a video on how to convert good position into an attack?
Hmm. I have considered making a video on that in the middlegame series. It is on my list!
Can you do d4 repertoire series
You are going to Portorož open? I live in Slovenia. We will meet maybe on Portorož open?
I hope I am Gašper. It depends on my finances because the accommodation is very expensive. If I go we will meet:D
@@HangingPawns I know, I think I would not be able to go because it's expensive😞
Why don't you like the exchange variation? To static?
Maybe the same reason i hate french exchange.. Its Boring
I’m the type of player who’d play 21. ...g5 threatening to advance the g and h pawn, supported by the rook maybe. But that’s because I’m slightly crazy.
Good game though. Very good.
Instead of Rg1 couldn't he have played Nf5?
At one point I thought developing your rook to c8 (x-raying white’s queen) would have been a good move with the intent of attacking c6 with d4.
Rc8 is common, but if e5 can be played fast, in my experience it should be played. In which case the rook doesn't have to go to c8.
23:10 maybe Knight×G3 is a good move?
didn't you miss a tactic on move 20?
His face at 30:27 ''the fck just happened?"
Haha, yeah.
@19:40 does ...Nxh3+, gxh3 Bxg3, fxg3 Qxg3+ work?
Qg2 looks like it’d block. I think Nxd3 looked better: Bxd6 fails to Nxe1
If you like attacking chance. Why you don’t play the svechnikov against E4 ?
Alpha Zero probably doesn’t like smith-morra/closed Sicilian/rossolimo.
On move 20 you had Nxh3+
Don't be so Quick to dismiss your opponent's move, Queen to d2 was solid.
True. I often do that. Qh4 on my part was a blunder. Didn't even see Qh2 immediately:)
Do you read books?
Does he read books? He read more books than I, who am twice older and quite a reader myself. Greeting from his Proud Mum :)
@@Spectatorica haha thanks for this, i knew that, it is the main thing to improve
Hi
Looking at openings with an engine is not really good because engines can say stupid things in the opening like that Bd2 "advantage". If a move has a good plan in the opening then it's good and don't listen to the engines. Like e5 had a good plan and it's all that matters.
Hello from the States! Are you interested or do you have time to analyze games? I would pay you for your analysis if you would like to. I would send a game once a week or two. Let me know if you would interested. Thank you!
I definitely am interested, Mark. Feel free to send me a detailed email:) Analysis is the best training method!
