Oh my goodness, you are one of the most brilliant caregivers EVER!!! I was tearing up and giggling at the same time..."Asked for, and got a raise"?! Such a beautiful solution to a very real problem for so many people who have dementia. My husband has LBD and right now he still feels a sense of purpose with his activities, but there may come days when I too, will need to 'create' his environment. Your story is a big inspiration. You did well with your dad - and by sharing this, you (and he!) are continuing to do good in the world! THANK YOU!!!

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely message! I am sorry to hear of your husbands diagnoses. When my dad was first diagnosed I asked him if it would be ok with him for me to share our journey. He asked me why I would want to. I told him that I believed it could help others traveling down this difficult path as well. He told me if I really believed it could help even one person to do it. He always enjoyed helping others. So your message truly touched my heart and helps me to know I did that right thing! I'm still posting videos and advocating. I'll be traveling to Washington DC the end of this month to advocate to congress. Sending you and your husband a hug filled with strength and comfort on your journey as well ♥

May I second your lovely post? This was exquisite to watch. Norm was so very lucky to have a daughter with such love for her dad that even 'bubble-popping' was endowed with dignity and purpose. I absolutely loved it when Norm worked out that he was being financially ripped off! And your solution was brilliant... I wish I could have listened in on that 'conversation.' How I wish everyone suffering from that most dreaded disease had a 'you...' not to take anything away from the hundreds of thousands globally who strive to insert meaning and purpose into the disappearing lives of Alzheimers sufferers but you are most wonderful. Your lovely lovely dad looked happy. You did that... ❤️

My father has Alzheimer's (exacerbated by a bad fall & pelvis fracture, although Dad can still walk short distances), and most frequently his mind also goes back to his working days in the automobile business. We, too, make pretend phone calls to arrange "car deliveries" to customers, inquire about "vehicles for sale," and "set up service appointments." This video gave me another idea for my Dad's activities -- thank you so much!! From one daughter-who-understands to another, your video is brilliant, spot-on, and shows exactly how to create joy, dignity and humor out of a condition that could otherwise be sad and isolating. So many people shy away from visiting Dad because "he doesn't know who I am" or "I don't know what to say" ... but if people can just think about the condition as experiencing the world differently than those of us not in the condition, it's a lot easier to relate and find things to talk about. Dad's experience is still his "world," and he still wants to contribute -- and he can/does! He makes me a better person every hour that I spend with him. He also still makes us laugh, and remember to play. Thank you again for your beautiful video!!! :-)

Of course he got paid by direct deposit, hehe. There were times I would sneak money into his wallet and every so often when he questioned where his pay was I would hand him his wallet to look at. I'd also ask if he needed me to make a run to the bank to get more money out of his direct deposit account. Afterwards he would always feel content again. Thank you for the lovely message :)

Mark E Thank you for the lovely message 💜.
One of my father's greatest pleasures throughout his entire life was helping others. When he first got diagnosed with Alzheimer's I asked him if it would be okay with him if I shared our story. He asked me why I would want to do so and I explained to him that I thought our story could help others who unfortunately are also forced to deal with this brutally difficult disease. His response was if I truly believed it would help even just one person then yes go ahead and share our story. Even though my dad passed away in February of 2016 I still feel very passionate about how devastating this disease is for those afflicted with it. I also feel very passionate about the plight of the millions of caregivers who are struggling on a daily basis to try to provide care for their loved ones with little to no help or support. I still continue to post our videos (I have a lot of footage left that I filmed of my dad) and advocate because I receive so many message daily from people telling me that our videos help them. My dad would be exctatic to know that he is still helping others!

I'm sure you are missing him terribly right now. Norm was such a Sweetie! You are really honoring him by sharing his story and the things you guys did together. I hope you continue to share your creative ideas. They could be of such use to others - i.e. nursing homes, geriatric psychiatric units, home health/sitters, and families. You're a good daughter. I know how hard it is to love someone as well as care for them with this condition. My 96 year old mom has lived in our home for 6 years...the last 2 with dementia. It's getting harder with her confusion about how to do things...who people are and all the aches and pains that mess her up daily. I loved to "popping bubbles" and the flower painting. We were doing dishtowel embroidery. We've given away about 250 of them. She can't do it for very long now because her eyes bother her and she forgets how to thread the needle or make a knot. I'm keeping these in a separate bag marked "dementia dish towels". It's hard for me but it's harder for her. She was a very hardworking farm woman. Bless you and may your dad rest in peace. You gave him a good ending💕💕💕💕

Brilliant! Your dad was truly blessed to have you as his daughter and caregiver. What a wonderful thing you did for him. My wish is that your message of compassion and the dignity with which you treated your father is heard by all of us. Thank you for touching my soul today... you are a genuine reminder of the goodness and love in the world.

What a relaxing video. I was riveted. Norm is such a *gentle*man. I haven't been been affected personally by Alzheimer's but this is clearly a great resource for those who are. It's so nice of you to share this. Very clever about the bubble wrap. You're obviously a very kind person.

This is so beautiful, I watch your videos all the time and it reminds me of how much love our parents gave us and how easily they can be taken advantage of as they reach old age. This shows me and so many others the beauty of true love and devotion to the people that made us and raised us. I'm 18 and I really appreciate having seen videos like these at my age, so I can appreciate my parents from now all the way to when I take care of them myself. Thank you :)

This series has been so remarkable and uplifting. This man was able to go thru this horrendous disease with dignity because of the love, creativity and perseverance of his incredible daughter. He seemed to retain his warmth and sense of humor throughout. May he Rest In Peace. Thank you for blessing us all with your humanity.

I don't know how I found your channel but it is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for being so patient and loving and GIVING to Norm, your father. You would hope everyone would be willing to do this for their family but not evenone can handle the pain that comes with or the willingness to give up their life basically to care for someone else.. You are a wonderful daughter! Stay positive!

I use to have the women that I took care that had Alzheimer's made the pens with flowers on them. It was amazing how she just felt awake and happy. Her attention to detail on just wrapping the floral tape around the pen and flower was amazing .Her husband said I was the only one that ever tried anything like that with her. We must have made 10 a day for a month gave them to all her friends.Try this it is easy for them to do.

Thank you for the lovely message. My dad passed away on February 27th, 2016. I still make and post our videos because so many people have written to me telling me that the videos of our journey dealing with Alzheimer's have helped them and I feel very passionate about the extreme struggles so many are going through while trying to take care of their loved ones with dementias. I have a dedicated facebook page as well that you may want to like; facebook.com/PaintingToRemember/
Thank you again for taking the time to send me a message ♥

I'm an artist, and I had my mom read books and articles to me as I painted. Her dementia progressed, but she was able to still read aloud (sometimes the same page several times, but who cares). She really did help me as I painted. I always painted better with her reading to me, and I told her this many times, especially when she worried that she wasn't useful anymore. She was such a blessing. This video made me cry. God bless you for the wonderful thing you did for your father.
