Norms 91st birthday- Please send him a card

- November 28th 2015 is my dad's 91st birthday! He has Alzheimer's and hasn't been able to leave the house since June 2014 when he shattered his pelvis...so going out to celebrate is an impossibility.
Last year, in an attempt to make his birthday a special day under the circumstances, I put a request out on my personal Facebook page asking friends to send him a birthday card. I wasn't sure it would work, I wasn't sure anyone would take the time to send him one...to my surprise people started sharing my post and he got over 300 cards from 8 different countries! My father is a World War II vet. A man in the Navy even sent my dad his military coin in one of the cards, quite an honor!
Experiencing all the love coming from friends and strangers around the world was beautiful and it made his day really special!
I'm hoping that you will help me to make it a special day for him again this year! I'm asking everyone to PLEASE MAIL HIM A BIRTHDAY CARD again.

We all should even if we dont like them you know wouldn't ha e that type of friend but our parents sacrificed a lot for us in ways we cannot even imagine I always saw my dad as superman and my mum is my hero I've learnt a lot from them both
@@Jayneisere04 Well, nice for you. For other people out there, liking a parent is the least of their worries. If you haven't been beat, raped, and abused by a parent, than it is easy to love them.
Taking care of a parent or any other person for that matter, is not only cost intensive, but also time intensive and the emotional effort you put in cannot be measured. So a privilege for most.
We can't expect children to care for their parents. Some old folk don't have kids, others abused them or their children have a disabled child that needs full time care. Maybe we should have a system in place other than nursing homes for people who need care.
HONESTLY, it really pisses me off when people expect children to be greatfull for their parents. No one said you need to fuck and produce life, now the kid should thank them for providing food? I give my dog more and expect less in return than most parents with their offspring. MY DOG. Every human deserves respect, even wife-beaters in nursing homes, but don't you dare burden the adult child even more.

I know this is very long ago, but I really hope he recieved a lot of cards for his birthday.

My father died at age of 68 from this, I was 33 , and watched him wither away slowly, he was completely deaf and blind as well, , along with major strokes and henilplegic migraines ( killer migraine ), .... I was his little girl and we were so close, I lost him too early. Miss him so much. This gentleman Norman in the video, is so much like dad...... I'm 50 now, and bed ridden with the same disease , nearly completely deaf, had a few mini strokes and am deteriorating faster than dad. At least I know I will get to see him soon. Cant bloody wait. I just thank god I never had children , so that they suffer the same fate or disease , and also dont have to watch me leaving earth this way.

It's horrible people have to die. Building relationships with people and then losing them is the worst thing to happen to someone, especially knowing they are close to going and that you won't see them again, and then you realise how much you cared about then and wish you spent more time with them when you could have. RIP.

What a wonderful woman you are!!! My mom had Alzheimer's. We were able to keep her home and take care of her too. This is no easy task. But it is worth every minute of the privilege to bring a parent security and protection. Thanks so much Elaine. You are truly one in a million. hug hug hug

It's June 2021 and I still find myself blessed by the care you showed your father and the way he comes across in all the videos you made. Oftentimes the way we humans handle difficulties reflects how wonderful and noble and kind we can be. I think this is how God intends us to be with each other.

im 15 years old, and I never knew my grandfather, he passed before I knew him, but my middle name is after him. He loved me a lot from what I heard. Seeing your dad just smile and be loved just makes me wonder if my grandpa in his old age smiled like that. my father passed in August of 2015 from a broken heart and never got to live to be old. these videos just put a smile on my face to see you love and care for him. may he Rest In Peace.

Elaine. I was my dads caretaker and he went to Heaven last year. I got 3 years of dedication with him. Best years of my life with Dad and my own life. I miss him so much. Every day every moment. I try to do his chores to this day for he and mom but ill never be as good as him at it.
He knew the Lord as his Savior before he passed andet me tell you .my grief is different than for ones i loved that I didn't know where they went.... thats the hardest part. Thank goodness. I was gifted with the time here with dad. He got every ounce of love I had to give. I dont know if I will have any more to give again. I hope so...

He lived to be 91-92. He lived a full, complete life & died peacefully surrounded by people who loved him. That's as good as it gets. Very few of us will ever get to be in our 90s. There is no reason to feel sad. Celebrate his memory.

Your father was an amazing man when he was younger and equally amazed you as he got older I'm sure if these videos are anything to go by.
