Alzheimer's and not wanting to eat
I took care of my dad who had alzheimer's. Alzheimer's (and dementias) is by far one of the most difficult diseases to have to endure. Both for the person who is unfortunately afflicted but also for the loved one who cares for them. It is a world where the routine rules of what we know as reality do not apply. A world in which what once was is no longer, and a world in which ones behavior can change unpredictably at any given moment. A world where the navigation of the terrain is never a constant but always filled with ever changing new spontaneous variables to have to deal with. Sometimes just going with the flow of what happens in that given moment versus pushing what normally "would or should happen" can actually be quite magical. As many caregivers know sometimes it can become quite difficult to get loved ones with dementia to want to eat. On this day my father was very creative in finding a way to not eat. I will always be grateful that even within the difficult insanity of having to endure this horrible disease my father and I could still have moments of laughter as well.

My father has Alzheimer's. In June of 2014 he had a horrific fall. He shattered his pelvis, leaving him unable to walk or stand ever again. I take care of him. There is no way to get him out of the house. I utilize a Hoyer lift to get him out of his bedroom twice a day. And there are people who CHOOSE to drink and take drugs and claim to have a disease!. If they were given AIDS, cancer, dementia, alzheimers to drink and smoke, they would never touch it smoke
For my dad with dementia he always remembered all us kids. I was so grateful for that.

My grandpa got 90 today and has strong Alzheimer. But sometimes in clear moments he still got his humor and thats so interesting and nice to watch. Fe. one of their housing group cant walk and has to stand within a walking device? Well she jammed it against the couch and was stuck. We were taking grandpa out to the lobby to get some cake and he bumped me with his ellbow and smirked while saying " Hey (my name), look there ... engine failure" to me. After that joke he was lost in his mind and even fell asleep. I just can't stop thinking about it how sudden everything changes

This isn’t a good sign, in stage 5 Alzheimer’s there will be rips in the plaques that have formed, causing them to have certain memories back, but they are gone as soon as they appear.
Is he aware of his Alzheimer's? It seemed so when the woman asked: "What's my name?" and he answered: "Hey, I just got one right!" Still got a great sense of humor!
I think this disease is one of the worst there is, especially for those close to you. Take heart !

Lost my uncle in 2023 to Alzheimer´s after he was diagnosed 8 years ago. He would also have clear moments where he'd joke and be himself and then 2 minutes later he didn't know where he was or who the people around him were. My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer´s just four weeks after I lost my uncle so this disease.. I hate it

I have a grandfather with Alzheimer's, it was very painful initially. I don't know if this is wrong to feel, but i dont feel as devastated about it anymore. I just feel greatful that he's still here in any capacity at all. It is however unfortunate that it took something like this to realize how important it is to cherish family while they're still here. If anything its brought my entire extended family closer together.
