Thanks, I recently had to rebuild 2 hydraulic cylinders on my Bobcat. I knew nothing about them. I knew I did not want to pay someone else to do it. A lot of trial and error. Moving at the speed of a Sloth. I got it. Thanks again. I have learned that you are a master. One willing to share. Priceless.
Well done, thanks for sharing the knowledge. Im restoring a john deere 440 dozer and just finished rebuilding two of the cylinders, I ended up welding 1 inch stock to my welding table and beating the heck out of them to get the pistons out. Went back together smoothly. Im a retired engineer and Im running a service truck working on heavies here and there as well as saving old equipment to use on my homestead /little farm. Im always impressed with the simplicity and quality of these old machines, nothing is make like them anymore. I wasnt surprised to work on another late model Cat where the eyes were torn from the cylinders. Upon inspection of the welds, I found them rife with undercut and lack of penetration throughout. This is found on 4 or 5 year old machines with factory welds. After talking with other owners, as well as a friend of mine who owns a successful fab, they say thats not uncommon for all these new machines.
I usually try try the break it free while its still on the equipment, that way its already loose when you take the cylinder off. Sometimes there is no room to do this.
It's cool to see that everything is threaded like you expect it to be. Righty tighty Lefty Loosey. Sometimes it gives you pause when you're on the reef and you're, like, "Am I turning this the right way?"
Always enjoy seeing what you work on ...I watch a You Tube channel Marty T in New Zealand ..He fixes up old abandon equipment and straightened a bent rod on a tractor hydraulic cylinder and redid a big one on a back hoe which was a heavy thing to unhook and lift over with the tractor
Great to see you back at it. Really enjoy your videos, the music, the pace, feels like a different world. Hope your well and great skill as always, you make it look like anyone can do it first time.
I like your videos and thanks for sharing. And I going to do my own hydraulic rebuild for the first time and can you show how to release the pressure from the hydraulic line
Yeah I hope he is able to put videos more often - this is one of the best channels for sure. Love his style and humility and honesty ... this channel is the real deal.
On the first cylinder, ince you get the glad loose, use a chain wrench on it so you dont have to keep dealing with that dang spanner. Sometimes you can get lucky and just use the chain wrench first.
Great video. I usually loosen the end cap with the ram still on the machine. I don't like the ones that are held on by a wire that feeds through a hole in the barrel into a slot.
It’s obvious that the hydraulic cylinder was damaged, but I was left wondering what exactly it was you fixed. Were there seals that needed replacing? I felt the video started off strong but left me hanging for the final repair. I loved how you made the gland obey with the cheeter pipe!!!! Leverage baby.
Sorry about that. I was planning on doing Another video on the seal replacement on a hydraulic cylinder so this video wasn’t a hour long. Thanks for the comment your not the first person to ask why I didn’t keep going.
Classic Work It’s all good. My question was designed to help you improve the story of your videos. A good video starts with a problem, designs a solution then implements the solution to repair. Keep up the good work!!!! I’m going to call you “Long Lanky Texas.”
It’s a Milwaukee 4210-1. I’ve had it for 4 years now I believe. It’s been a good drill biggest complaint I can say it is loud and heavy. Other than that been really good I’d buy another one.
Why didn't you just use the machine it came off of as a jig? Seams to save me a lot of time / headaches by removing lines and one pin while leaving the othe to hold cylinder from spinning
you might run into a cylinder that is thin walled and tight too that chain will put even force around the pipe but you do not want to deform the cylinder in ant way shape or form holding the cylinder at the pin is the only way, your shop your rules!
Frank Deegan Have a cheap kioti backhoe. Good point. Grandfather always said two ways to learn. Fuck it up or learn from someone that fucked it up before you.
you could have left the piston bore (the housing) in the backhoe to hold it when you went to turn the spanner nut , saved time from all the fabricating work ? next time anyway .
Sometimes you can break a cylinder on the machine but this case we couldn’t. This was the stick cylinder on a 580 case. You really can’t break it on the machine.
wanna truck on out to Western Washington, and repack a boom cylinder on my log loader? its like 8" dia and about 12' off the ground... I'll give you a dollar... but the video should be epic.
Those ram nuts should be put on with red thread lock. It often takes high heat to get them off. The hydraulic shop may have a very high torque rig for breaking them loose. I rebuild most of the cylinders on my Case 450 loader backhoe.
I am in southeast Alabama i am wanting to build a small crane to go in the center back of truck be able to lift 4,000 lb with the boom 8' length i have some ideas and drawing is there a way i could send you what i have and see if you think it will work i cannot afford to buy one need to make with junk i have will be using 12v wench the boom will be extendable but extended to 10 feet will only need to lift 1,000lb and want it to rotate at least 180degrees.
@@EEJester1586 Always use the machine first to hold the ram even if you have to drop the pin out from another ram to use its mounting. Taking a ram away from site just cost the customer time and more money. If you have to take it back to the workshop, stick it in a press to hold it. If you have a decent 1 inch thick bench. Plasma 2 holes in it and chain through the ram eye. Use old conveyor rubber to protect the inner surfaces, or what i have done out on a Cattle Station on a PC1600 main boom cylinder was to use a 18 wheeler flat deck trailer, cut small holes in the deck and run the chain around the main chassis rail, then used a hydraulic torque multiplier to crack the main nut. Many ways. IMHO cracking a ram head is better off done with a long sturdy bit of pipe rather than a breaker bar as they flex too much. Enjoyed your vid. Keep them coming. Cheers.
Mike Thomas thanks for the comment. Aye I try to break them down on the machine as well most times. Just showing how it can be done without the machine or if somebody brought you one. That’s all I was getting at. Thanks again.
Trouble is some hydraulic cylinders have the caps welded on. Abom79 has shown rebuilding several different cylinders as well as making new ones. Ya did good though.
No say you can't I just did a bigger one on a 580E hoe and left it on machine and used pump to extract ram replaced seals and slide it back in ,, 1 hour job
Awesome very respectful glad you replied nicely instead of all angry like I enjoy watching and learning this stuff especially if something apocolptic happens ya know lol
Wayne Gonnella no worries man. I understand I like getting called out it keeps me on my toes. Believe it or not I do really care about the environment.
Thanks@@EEJester1586 I don't object to a few I know you need revenue to make these vids and I like your work. But it was just too much and too many doubles. Cheers

So glad you're back!!!! Really missed you man. Was worried but very glad to see you are ok. Love your videos!
Great to see you’re ok and back to making a video or two! Stay safe.
Great video. Glad to see you back on the channel! 👍🏼
I usually try try the break it free while its still on the equipment, that way its already loose when you take the cylinder off. Sometimes there is no room to do this.
Good to see you again, always something interesting. Made some nice chips on this one. Mag drills making life a bit easier.
Hey man I just started to watch you’re videos thanks for inspiring me to one day own my own rig !
Happy to see ya back!
Полезное приспособление для разборки гидроцилиндра, спасибо за идею.👍
Really enjoy your videos, understand why its few and far between. That editing is a beast.

Cool build! We posted this video on our homemade tools forum this week :)
Great to see you back at it. Really enjoy your videos, the music, the pace, feels like a different world. Hope your well and great skill as always, you make it look like anyone can do it first time.
Great video...this will help me when our tractor cylinders go out. Thanks and God Bless and Happy New Year.
Always enjoy watching hydraulic tear downs. Have you seen anyone use a hydraulic wrench to get the packing gland loose?
Those things can exert 20,000 ft lbs. Amazing. Heat will also release the red thread lock.
Handy to have the truck to bolt the bracket to, it stays put when you put the grunt on the cheater pipe! Looks good!
Take care, and God Bless my friend! Hope you aren't in the path of the hurricane!
Amazing video, thank you!
Was the eye on the ram the same size as on the cylinder? Thanks
I have only done a couple Hydraulik cylinder rebults yeth have not run in this style of cylinder yeth good Video 👍👍
Words of wisdom: "You've gotta be smarter than the tool you operate."
Heat the bolt head to 600 degrees to melt the locktite.and do what candeservices recommends.
I like your videos and thanks for sharing. And I going to do my own hydraulic rebuild for the first time and can you show how to release the pressure from the hydraulic line
Thanks for the video
Ridged chain vise works the best.
Not relevant to me in the least at the moment (but will eventually) but excited to see another of your videos come out.
Very good, thank you👍👍👍👍👍👌
been patiently waiting for a vid from you, glad to see

Can you heat the glands if they are still solid on there? Or do you have another trick. I have the gland nut wrench and some of them are really tight
Heat them up . I do it whenever I need to
I put ram back in machine bracket and use breaker bar with pipe to take nut off and use heat if it's been lock tighted
I’ve seen people use trailer hitch and bolt to to it , once but loses then drive forward and pull out rod
It works 😊
Good job,,,👍👍👍
Great video. I usually loosen the end cap with the ram still on the machine. I don't like the ones that are held on by a wire that feeds through a hole in the barrel into a slot.
Thats the way I like to do it as well. Makes it easy.
Nice!!!!!!

Good job 👌
hi i am from germany wer did i get this tool for the cyinder
You need a chain wrench like they use on pipe vise.
Yep
Use no oil for cutting?
I weld a big steel "wrench" to the gland on the stubborn ones.
What kind of magnetic drill press do you have? I have been in the market for one.
It’s a Milwaukee 4210-1. I’ve had it for 4 years now I believe. It’s been a good drill biggest complaint I can say it is loud and heavy. Other than that been really good I’d buy another one.
Very good nice and fantastic.
What is wrong with a chain vice and a die bar (on anything) stuck thru the butt eye?
Why didn't you just use the machine it came off of as a jig? Seams to save me a lot of time / headaches by removing lines and one pin while leaving the othe to hold cylinder from spinning
on cat cyl i leave cyl attucated to trac just take guts out lot less to handle
Donde consigo esa herramienta de flojar
wish i had that kinda time on my hands... Weld that cold roll to da table and get it
Was thinking metal chain might work. Hold cylinder like oil rig drill pipe.

maybe you can show a cylinder rebuild sometime
Perfect job bro 👍👍 but what happen big hidrolic
Thanks I lost some of the footage on the brake down and it wouldn't have made sense without it.
Trabalho com montagem e desmontagem!

I’m getting my cylinders rebuild how do you bleed out air after I install it?
Just work the cylinder air should be no problem coming out.

Red Loctite. I had the plessure of living that nightmare. This had clearly been rebuilt without it. Sandpoint btw
11:27 What is the commercial designation of this tool?
they are called "universal gland wrench" they have models where you can change the pins different size.

You don't put pipe on the end of a ratchet. Thats what breakerbars are for.
Better of sticking to your welding.
Wish I could just weld but it doesn’t always pay the bills.

If it's exposed leave it on the machine and slide ram out I've found easiest
Very disappointed, why are you letting the fluid drain onto the ground environmental contamination is bad no matter how little it is
I caught most of the fluid off camera. It’s impossible to catch everything.

I also started to each some of i c guy that you recommend and he's impeccable work is just amazing to watch as are your vids
Too much extra work just leave them on the machine if you can
Nope dont need that
How about draining the oil into a container instead of dumping it all over the ground for chrissakes???
Or bring them to me $100 labor on each
Had to stop watching, too many commercials.....
Sorry about that youtube loves to update and miss with my settings. I've got it fixed.
