Hey guys, welcome to the fourth episode of What Was Cut. Today I'm showing you all the unused content found in Call of Duty: World at War. I was surprised that they cut an entire campaign from this game but I guess that's what happens when developers are pushed to finish a game in time. I honestly didn't know about the Tunguska text until editing this video, that easter egg is super cool! I hope you all enjoyed and I'll see you in the next one!

12:20 what you're seeing there are Fallschirmjäger uniforms, German paratroopers who were frequently used as assault troops later in the war.
Which were part of the Luftwaffe.
"This tank called Panther".
My soul hurts
"german airforce, better known as the luft-waff"
and plenty more, but still had lots of cool info i had no idea of
keep crying ww2 is stupid history is dumb lol
Owned and operated by naxis
i love the unused quotes for the ammo machine are saying how good an idea it was lol
1:04 actually given that they mention al assad and the arabian peninsula from cod 4, this is more likely reused dialogue / scripts from the cut training levels from that game. could just be a reference though.
On top of that, the COD 3 training section is just the firing range with Huxley, before you are loaded onto a truck and moved to capture St. Lo. It's completely different than either of the cut training courses in COD4 and WaW.
I'm curious who's voice that is. You can hear that temp voice in the early Cod 4 builds and I think you hear that same voice in the MW2 one too.
@@pengu6335 petitioning for a deep dive on who the temp voices are in the early builds of old cod games.
@@planetoffkey4337 most likely various developers own voices If I remember correctly, you can see it in the cod 4 early builds/cut levels on some youtube videos but I could be wrong
@@Helsinki40268 I know they're dev voices, but we're wondering what dev specifically.
2:56 Nightfire actually made it into the game completely finished as a DLC, it was included with Map Pack 3.
The map der riese is based off
@@goldenfiberwheat238 Correct! Both maps are made from the campaign map Eviction :)
@@lysergicore really? They don’t look like eviction
The pps-43 wasnt replaced by the ppsh, it just went unused. The ppsh was gonna be inthe game regardless. Man do i wish that tank war made it to the game
I feel like by "it got replaced by the ppsh" he meant the default ppsh in mp with the stick mag and not with the drum
I do agree with the tank war game mode though it sounds awesome also the 4th kill streaks
Great upload. I know WaW final fronts used a British campaign, but I would have really liked to have seen a British campaign with the brutality of WaW
The M1000 could also be considered a "cut" weapon from zombies. It's the upgraded M1 Garand without the rifle grenades, and like the Snuff Box, it is completely functional but there is no way to obtain it in game without console commands
Living Battlefield, as well as a test shooting range map, are left in the PS3 version of the game and can be loaded with hacks!
I was just about to say this. You can play these on a real PS3 or RPCS3.
5:13 the Sten from World at War is actually in the Black Ops 1 single player mission Project Nova.
There were two other weapons cut aside from the British guns, both were weapons left over from CoD 2: the PPS-43 and the M3 Grease Gun. The PPS-43 was an cheaper alternative to the PPSh-41. Made during the Siege of Leningrad, PPS-43s were popular firearms for being cheaper, lighter, and more compact than the PPSh-41; although the PPS-43 would be short lived.
The Grease Gun, on the other hand, saw a lengthy service history with the USA. Made to be a cheaper replacement for the Thompson, the Grease Gun was substantially lighter, more controllable, more compact, and a significantly cheaper gun than even the simplified WWII Thompsons. They would even be used into the 1990s Gulf War to help arm Bradley APC crews.
lmao someone saw forgotten weapons
Nightfire is definitely in the game, in the last DLC. I've played it on PC some years ago. It's got the same vibe as Der Riese.
Tunguska happened about 115 years ago now too lol
Loving these videos, feels like you have the exact same taste in games as me. So far you're hitting all my childhood favorites
Pfp hitting
Really good video regarding COD’s cut content and hoping we get more of these in the future, especially with COD Zombies with its cut content on the Black Ops series.
But, there’s one more cut content you definitely missed out in this video:
WAW was originally supposed to have a 4th DLC Map Pack that was going to be a Zombies DLC pack, consisting of three maps being Theater, Coast, and Paris. This WAW DLC 4 was cancelled because Treyarch needed to work on Black Ops 1 and the DLC 4 was too close in-line to MW2’s release date.
This supports it became of the Der Riese boards showing pics of Zombies in those three maps, with Theater being Kino Der Toten as the launch map in BO1, Coast being Call of the Dead in the Escalation DLC 2, and Paris would eventually become Moon because Treyarch wanted to go out with a bang.
Now as for why Paris was turned into Moon, given the code name is ZM_Paris, Jason Blundell many moons ago explained on the Paris map concept:
“Paris had the idea of a No Man's Land and it had the Eiffel Tower and underneath there was a teleporter and then there were the catacombs underneath there, and the idea was that you went into the teleporter and the Eiffel Tower was essentially a conduit for the power for it and then you got transported to this middle of nowhere where the Pack-A-Punch was and it was just Zombies coming at you, there was no cover."
The Pap area idea of Zombies coming after you with no cover was used for No Man’s Land, the catacombs are actually the tunnels 6 & 11 (with the labs ofc), and the Eiffel Tower would’ve been under the Biodome.
Nightfire was actually released via DLC and the audio to do with the obstacle course is from CoD4 not 3
Oh hey I remember digging through the files of this and documenting a lot of stuff on TCRF like the unused Treyarch MP rank badge. I didn't dig through any sounds though, so a lot of this is new to me.
Oh you did show that Treyarch badge! I just got to that part of the video. Someone at TCRF had said it may have been used in early playtests with devs but I've not seen any proof of that.
If you ever decide to do a video on Team Fortress 2, you're going to have your work cut out for you with that because there is SO MUCH from so many different years and I never did get around to documenting it all properly on TCRF before I quit and got myself banned on purpose.
appreciate you looking after your family members cat cus they were on vacation even tho you had call of duty world at war hidden lore to reveal
Its funny that all of the cut single player content for WAW was placed into COD WAW Final Fronts on the PS2
I would love to see Call of Duty 3 opened up like this. It's a great game and a big part of my childhood. There is so much unique content in this video I never knew about, thank you for uploading it.
You’re telling me the SVT, my favorite rifle in WaW, was going to have a fire select switch? I’ve dreamed of what a full auto SVT would be like, I used it well enough to out damage MP-40s and other SMGs with superior range
If you’ve never seen the “Aesthetics of World at War” video I suggest you do.
Since you did a call of duty game, I'd love to see if any Battlefield games have cut content.
Why are all the images such low quality?
Also you say that one gun is fully functional, but no footage of it working?
Your consistency and dedication to your videos is something I want to say thank you for, it is so fulfilling to support creators like you and watch them grow and with that said I wish you success in your creative journey :)
It would be cool to see an episode on the original MW2.
The Nightfire minimap icon is the same as the Nightfire DLC map layout, so I assume that map was bought back for DLC later in development. The default vehicle is something I've been really curious about ever since it was first found in COD2 - I'd love if someone could find more info about it as it's a really weird placeholder, and the model seems too detailed to be something quick and easy to test veh movement. The model itself is based off the S14 Silvia/200sx/240sx which has always made me wonder if Treyarch were ever planning on making some sort of racing game, and had the model laying around somewhere. Treyarch did plan on making a Zombie driving game back in the early 2000s called "Dead Rush", which made me wonder if it was leftover from that, but it just seems a bit out of place when looking at old trailers for it etc. I don't play much modern COD, but the default vehicle has been in the game files of a lot of CODs since WAW, the latest one I know of is in Vanguard (EDIT: There's also a reddit post of it being found on MW2022), and can even be found outside of some of the multiplayer maps (non driveable ofc). Maybe one day I'll dig deeper into it 😄
loved this video! such a niche topic so i thank you for this!
Really good series, glad I found your channel
I never thought about cut content for cod games
What about halo games too
Ooo I'm a huge fan of Halo, there will definitely be a Halo episode in the future for sure!
@@HackingIsFreedom You planning make cut content about alien isolation?
It would have been nice if the Regio Esercito and the Commonwealth were in multiplayer, with their respective weapons: Lee Enfield, Carcano, Sten, Beretta, Webley MKIV, M1936 Pistol, Bren LMG, M30 LMG, Johnson Rifle, Breda PG, Lewis Machine Gun and MG18
They could have literally copy-pasted the ps2 version's British campaign
12:40 WTF??? It's an S14! Well, looks a bit more like the S14a, the "Kouki". I remember seeing a hacker using one as their playermodel when playing zombies about 14 years ago
WaW was such a great Game. I miss Games like that. Also very good Video, you did your research.
Really need a cod ghost cut content
Great video btw
The final couple of campaign missions left a dark, gritty, impression on me concerning the game’s atmosphere, and how it was based on something that actually happened. Whenever I think of Call of Duty: World at War, my mind trails back to the faint distant-sounding Königgrätzer Marsch followed by Hitler’s(?) radio broadcast urging his troops to continue fighting heard by the end of ‘Heart of the Reich’ mission. The progressing transition from fighting against Wehrmacht to SS to bandaged SS guards really placed things into perspective; suicidal death by fighting in honor of sworn eternal ideological allegiance to evil. Exposed plans to surrender were branded as cowardice and meant death on their own side, attempts of surrender likely meant death depending on who the nazi defenders tried approaching during such act, and all survivable last-ditch escape routes were virtually cut off to most nazis by the final moments of the war. So, it was either taking their own lives, or to just go down fighting.
The developers went hard with capturing a certain feel with that campaign, and I’ve always imagined and wondered if they held anything back from the final product regarding the two missions, Heart of the Reich and Downfall, in particular. The fact that you exposed official unused skins of the Volksturm militia provided an answer I’ve probably wanted to know for years.
I guess the next step after implementing militia skins would’ve been including Hitler Youths, civilians, and making the player witness acts of mass rape, murder, executions, and suicides of non-combatants. If those skins were in, it’d reinforce Reznov’s point in his monologue before the mission ‘Eviction’ mentioning “The old. The young. The weak.”
I’m happy that at the very least you credited TCRF as the main source, as it appears that no original research has been done.
7:47 that’s an odd choice. All the other factions have something unique that was something they actually fielded irl that no one else did. But Germany gets a generic carpet bomber. Couldn’t even be bothered to call it a bf109. Guess that was a place holder because it would’ve made much more sense for it to be a v1 or v2
Probably refrencing the FW200's in the first Soviet mission
@@oco8783 maybe but they don’t say it
There is a WAW sequel where the British campaign can be played. It’s single player and starts of at the barracks
What's interesting is, the PS2 version of WaW has this training section at the beginning.
The PS2 spin off seems to lift a lot from the earlier development versions of the main game
including cut characters like "King" , "Anderson" , "Maddock" and "Sharpe"
Great video, would be neat to see a restored content mod for some of this!
P.s. its MOE-SIN not MOY-SIN. I can let luftwaffe slide....
I'll certainly have to check out the first three episodes, seeing how enjoyable this video was to watch and the selection of games featured in the previous episodes.
My interest in Call of Duty games is primarily the Treyarch ones due to zombies so I am hoping to see Black Ops next and beyond. One thing that comes to mind with that game is how on Moon, there are two versions of the player voice lines. Regular ones and ones with the space helmet on. Firstly, I didn't expect this. I thought they would just apply filters to the audio in real time rather than exporting the voice lines with the filter applied. Secondly, even the voice lines where the player is reacting/choking to the lack of oxygen has a helmet on version despite this not making any sense. I guess before shipping the DLC, they used a script which ran through every single voice line. Or maybe they really did manually export each without questioning the logic. I'm sure this would've been a different story had Moon been on the disc where they needed to be more conscious of capacity.
That first Dempsey actor sounded like Sonic lol
You forgot to mention the entire British campaign that went unused due to time restraints.
It was brought into the PS2 version of the game however, made by Rebellion studios.
It would be nice if you did an episode about Crash of the Titans, because I think it would be the first time someone has done that and its so underrated. Episodes about the original Star Wars battlefronts and the Destroy all humans games would also be interesting.
would love to see more cod content especially MW1 and 2
The Panther still exists, though various tanks from cod 2 were deleted
I don't know how people can play at 65 FOV on PC. 95 is the sweet spot imo
nice video, i like how your german language skills are on par with brad pitt in fury and inglorious bastards
Oh my, I've only now realised how the nationalities of each zombies player character matches the nationalities of the armies featured in the rest of the game...
nightfire was in dlc 2 for WaW
Well put together video. Mind doing a Cod 4 video?
very cool very epic
Great vid!!
The training voice lines are for the cut cod4 training mission not the waw mission...
Living battlefield seems to be made show off how everything can interact with the player , enemies and the world. Idk who wrote this was meant to be for zombies as the map is in one the alphas way before zombies was even thought of..
Dude doesn't know what he's talking about. All these videos are the same, they skim the wikia without doing more than surface level research
3:03 isn’t night fire an mp map in waw? It was used a base to make der reise
World at War Final Fronts seems to have a lot of this stuff.
If you make one on bo1, there exists MP40 killstreak lines for all the MP factions when you earn, deploy and even when its being used against you just like the cut Airstrike.
I always found it odd Treyarch considered the MP40 as a killstreak.
Those temp voice lines are cursed asf lol
While the Basic training map appears to actually have left over sounds from COD 4 the map itself appears to be very similar if not exactly the one in the PS2 version of the COD: WAW. While I cannot confirm I am pretty sure "Holland" and the British missions are also in the PS2 version as they are two drastically different games
2:10 Considering that the first map is an _Essex_-class carrier and the second is aboard an _Admiral Kuznetsov_-class carrier (implied to be the Type 001 _Liaoning)_ from nearly sixty years later, I truly doubt it. The designs are not similar at all, and it doesn’t look like the WaW carrier map got very far in development.
with what you have described, it seems the cut content went into the final fronts cod on ps2
12:20 pretty sure it's just designed like that due to the fallschirmjäger splinter smock is fading, the left fallschirmjäger look like strufmtarn
Nice man
1:08 damn, I always thought they should've had a British "A Bridge too Far" inspired mission in this
I have always been intrigued by the 4th killstreak and how that would've looked in gameplay, especially since it's different for each nationality. Part of me thinks that the kamikaze streak would've been controllable like a predator missile.
10:08 Love this voiceline xd
Nightfire is in WaW. It is a Multiplayer map.
So glad it started banging instead of a training camp ... I mean ... we ALL played shooter prior and it's COD ... so simple learning by doing is the only possibility.
Call of Duty: World at War on the ps2(call of duty world at war final fronts) has the training level and I think all of the British levels
8:20
>Luftwaffe flying air support missions in April, 1945
>accurate
lol
Lmao, even
I vividly remember matchmaking into a modded game of zombies where we were immediately set to round 1000+ and all of the zombies were that female character model lol
1:50 Didnt know Griffith was in CoD
Gosh, COD campaigns are the most linear games ever made.
I'd say original mario bros comes close but at least that one gave you the optional speedrun strat to skip like 3 different worlds
Isn’t nightfire an actual dlc map on world at war?
Idk if im wrong, but the nightfire map is a real map, and the minimap resembles to tje actual map.
Also, the mosin does have a grenade launcher in mp, but perhaps left out of zombies?
A Max Ammo machine?? If it was in the game, Tank would probably break the forth wall wonder why a machine like this would exist if you can just pick up Max Ammo pickups instead. Heh, I guess it would go something like this. "Max Ammo. Wait, what's the point of this machine if we can just pick up these pickups for free? GET THE HINT?!"
Sad to see they cut the contents.
The training was meant for the PS2 version seems like.
"Moisten Nagant"
Please check out Dead Rising's unused content. It's really interesting and there's another channel called Stipo who's dedicated his entire channel to uncovering the beta content of it
I love Dead Rising and I've watched a lot of Stipo's content. I will definitely add a Dead Rising episode, as I've played every title lol
@@HackingIsFreedom Eh leave that realm for STiPO
Best cod everything was perfect and wish they would vist a more darker tone again
0:52 what is talking about? Collad al-assad brings up nothing on google.
WAW!!
Completely sucks we didn’t get the brit missions
14:45
That's the zombie spawner for outside. It's not a cut feature.
More cods pls (:
When games were fun and had unique artstyles, instead just Warzone 1 2 3 4
14:47 My guess is occlusion block
Training part is in PS2 version
2:58 nightfire is in the game as map pack
Yeah, I totally forgot to mention it was later added in Map Pack 1. But that mini-map was a beta version of the map.
"Similar to Call of Duty 3..." Yeah, try Call of Duty 1 for the PC
The Nightfire map is in waw….
“Luftwaf”
Mosin is pronounced moezen
12:57 it's peggy hill
Greatest cod
You should do black ops 1 or mw2
Looft Waft

No not at all. They intended for the player to be able to mount weapons in Verruckt. So for a player to able to mount a weapon, the mounted weapon needed a reference. Hence why these are there, to allow the player to actually mount their weapon. I wish people would do a bit more research before making these videos. Keep it up though.
😄😄
