  • Here is part 1 of my Call of Duty World at War playthrough that I did on Twitch! Let me know if you enjoy this type of more laid back content and if you'd like to see more of it in the future. Definitely makes it much easier to chop up highlights than to get carried away with a full video.

  • @insertgenericusernamehere2402

World at war will always top my list of my favourite call of duty games.
The story was unrelentingly brutal definitely one thing I didn't realise as a kid was the multiple choice options you had to "spare" the nazi's but then your fellow Russians would kill them anyways I just slaughtered them instantly as i felt like that was the right thing to do... Now going back as an adult the morality of the choice is so grim, the zombies mode coming out of nowhere was such a welcome surprise. The Easter eggs where amazing too. (Ray gun on little resistance for example)
The multiplayer whilst basic was beautiful. Great maps, guns where decently balanced, basic perks, no ott killstreaks and even the dlc was good quality. Not just hammed in there for you to waste money on a fucking weapon charm or the same 5 animations to kill someone in warzone
Also, the collectables easy as piss to find.

Honestly the buildup in the first Soviet mission is almost artistic, the context to the first ingame view of the massacre of Stalingrad with a horrifying amount of enemy Bombers flying overhead and their sound and shaking from their engines (shaking your camera) is terrifying even for modern standards it really gives a feeling of hopelessness and despair and paints the German army not just brutal and powerful but also terrifying almost like they are not human but devils in human flesh, even with them slaughtering those clinging to life or potentially already dead, and even the German soldiers who wasnt shooting in the background seem like they are at another day of work almost looking unfazed to the horrors they are committing walking past it casually (their facial expressions show alot), and this whole comment is describing one moment probably only worth 5-10 seconds, honestly its just sad COD is afraid to present the reality instead painting war in a happy image like a movie (new COD) it truely is an insult to the veterans and those who witnessed these horrors with their own eyes and experienced it, they want their story to be told so no one will witness such horrors like they did, not glorifying war as some happy movie, especially with what has happened in Ukraine this holds to be more true, just this game alone holds alot more value and ability to educate on the reality of not just 'the war' but war itself whether its the question of morals, or the harsh reality war brings.

@@therookie5714 When comparing World at War and Cold War, they are two completely different eras and conflicts for which they are based in, and somewhat linked as world at war characters such as Reznov would appear in Black ops Campaign (which is phenomenal in its own right), and Cold War is a continuation of the Black Ops story. But Black ops 1 certainly followed the same principles World at War followed in its ability to tell an amazing story realistically without sugarcoating, Cold war was a good successor in being true to its era of the Cold War and history, but the key defining difference between WW2 and the Cold War is the fact WW2 was a straight all out war directly in your face and no punches being held with mass slaughters that would be considered disturbing to most for which your own morals are questioned and that of your enemy, the Cold war is a 40+ year of political rivalry, espionage and smaller funded conflicts such as the Korean war, Vietnamese war etc. Cold war also had a good foundation to build up from Black Ops 1 and had alot of good material to draw from directly as there would be no doubt they would have to look back at Black ops 1 when making Cold War, unfortunately in the case of COD WW2 and Vanguard this ability to provide this style of storytelling went back to its inability to create a good story from scratch that is actually incapsulating and true to its era.

Don't know if you know this Act Man but in the snipping part in vendetta there's a small window to the left if I remember correctly where it'll make dodging bullets easier since you're a smaller target if you snipe from there

The USA soundtrack really pulls me in. The use of strings to accent the rock, adding tension to the ever pressing forward feeling, like at any moment the whole situation could flip on its head really makes you feel apart of the conflict.

I always thought it was funny when I played the game as a kid when at 4:34, the guy yells "We're stuck on the coral!" and then proceeds to have the back of his head blow out. To which, if you watch closely, Roebuck just STARES right into the guys cranium for a second.
Not casually I might add, like he sticks his face in there for good observation

For almost a decade I believed this game to be underated af and from time to time I still play it. "Modern games aren't the same anymore" I thought but I was never sure if it's just me or the nostalgia - then I watched your videos and this gameplay about it and I have to say: Nope, it's just awesome, you make the same points I always made. Thanks for uploading your content, bro 🙏
Edit: Jesus Christ, I joined in saying the intro of "Vendetta" and then you did the same. I rarely start fangirling but that was amazing :D

Fun fact, the Japanese flags seen throughout hard landing and presumably any other mission that includes them can be burned with the flamethrower and it gets affected by the flamethrower and will look destroyed/burned. Cool little detail added in.

The sniper part on vendetta, as blood boiling as it feels, brings out the best gamer in you. You eventually bring on the sweaty goblin and get him, and after your still in that mood where it feels like you could play through the rest of the game...

  • @Speckadactyl

Completing World at War on Veteran is one of my greatest achievements as a gamer. The grenade spam is absolutely one of the most ridiculous things I’ve had to slog through but it’s worth it if you’ve exhausted its awesome campaign over the last decade waiting for another good WWII shooter. Aside from all the good writing and fun gameplay the score just sells the hell out of this game, while for the most part I think COD games have pretty great sound design WAW is just next level. That anxious metal that pumps throughout the campaign is one of the most underrated game soundtracks I’ve ever heard and is one of my favorite parts whenever I dust it off for a play through

One thing on the music remember the Germans when they invaded Russia didn't just start a war the Nazis started a race war aswell pretty much exterminating Slavs as they pushed to Moscow. That's why you hear patriotic music for the Americans because of pearl harbor and seeking justice, while for the Russians when they push to Berlin the music is menacing and vengeful they had a right to be angry but they were brutal to the Germans making the civilian populations flee for their lives. WW2 was mass human extermination on an almost factory like scale.
