I've been consuming Chamath's content more and more. His anti-ivory tower is a fresh move off the normal framework talk about the technical founder, scrappy young-aged at the valley's requirement of young and ambitious, and characteristics to do the tech stuff with opportunistic view that is revolutionary but evolves around a founder and team that can execute against some other elegant presentation that is vying for the same dollars. Articulate is no longer required, big bold audacious that can walk and chew at the same time. I think starting simply solving a minute problem that doesn't have a well-known TAM that can be put on paper, but one less detract-able killer, gnarly idea and captured early enough that operating businesses win the bigger share of the pie than just the big idea.

    Speaking of "EDUCATION":
Originally, colleges and universities were where the smart went to get smarter.
They graduated and were offered better positions.
I hate to have to say this, but unfortunately, many less intelligent people misinterpreted this phenomenon, confusing cause and effect. They perhaps thought that going to college, itself, was what was making these people successful, rather than considering the selection bias. Many of the public, and many opportunistic politicians, began to demand that government make college/university education accessible to all: because this will make everybody successful, right???
As an epilogue, the effect of government subsidy is astoundingly clear, by the numbers. The cost of post-secondary education is preposterous, and the explosion of this cost is definitively traceable to taxpayer backed loan programs: because why not raise tuition (etc) precipitously, when government just keeps disbursing the funds up front each semester, and every helicopter parent demands the very best $60,000,000 new buildings for their baby to study Art History in?
