Theo bruh, democracy represents the ability for everyone to have a say. I’m not saying that what we have right now in America is the ideal version of democracy. Now if you allow everyone to have an opportunity (aka “Democratizing Opportunity”) then we will have more success economically and socially.

I think the key conflict here is what he represents. At one level he gives an impression that he can change lot of things in the world by being a thought leader, driving it from the front. On another level he invests his personal money and gets good return and then claims to be a cutting edge VC. Investing one’s money on a handful company is not really the boundary conditions of a VC. It’s more than that. All his partners have left social capital so essentially he is managing his own money now. As the saying goes, ideas are cheap- it’s execution that matters in this world. All news anchors like him because he spreads the ‘Silicon Valley peanut butter’ so nicely

He's very calm and personable but some of this (Virgin stuff) is breathtakingly disingenuous. Assuming that everything Nasa has spent so far in its history (600B), which includes all its fundamental research and robotic missions to all the other planets and moons and asteroids, space telescopes, etc etc was 'just' to put about 500 people in space (therefore ~1B/person), is absurd. Then to take that meaningless and erroneous value and compare it to VG's sub-orbital hop (at a low-low price of hundreds of thousands of dollars), which is arguably not even space (sub 100km), and certainly not 'space' in the orbital sense to which he's comparing it to with Nasa, is even more absurd. Pure marketing. Likewise claiming Mach 3.5 is hypersonic seems like a stretch for marketing purposes - most aerodynamics literature starts it at about Mach 5.
He's right about Facebook being crap, at least.

@@rejhanpuskar I'm not sure what 'explaining' SpaceX has anything to do with this critique of the speaker's invalid comparison. But since you ask, SpaceX was founded 17 years ago and has yet to launch a human into space. When they begin to do so soon for taking astronauts to the ISS, they are estimating a per-seat cost of $55M USD. To compare that to the current situation for 'NATIONAL' agencies, Nasa is currently paying $86M per soyuz seat. As I say, none of this seems relevant to my original comment.

Five months later "Richard" furloughs Virgin employees and "Richard" is looking to get bailed out again, while Chamath seems to be on a public tour talking shite about the latest bail out. Confusing, here he is talking up a luxury item whose first big customer will probably be the industrial military government complex. Certainly not transportation for us common folk, near or distant future.
