I bought this from Lowes a little over 3 months ago and it has traveled between a window sill and now to a grow light due to cold short winter days. I have several updates on this plant, subscribe to my channel to check them all out!
I have given it a lot of sun/light, kept it moist and misted and made sure to give it a soil mixture it really likes. Its rewarding me with beautiful red and green pitchers that grow back to back. The new pitcher so far has always been a little bigger than the last!

Where I lived it cold what do I do
Found the love of my life, got married, had kids, put them through college all before my nepenthes got established and started to vine. Slow growers for sure. But of you have the patients.. It's worth it
I agree, ventrata are relatively easy to not kill, but can be hard to make pitcher consistently. It just takes some patience and willingness to wait and see!
I wish a had one of these

So cute
Thank you!
Your welcome
how do you get it to produce new pitchers
In your opinion, what is the best option of soil for any nepenthes? Just pure sphagnum moss or just sphagnum peat moss or a combination of both?
I think just pure sphagnum moss is the best, you can mix some perlite with it too!
Bark mixed with perlite and add Spahn in moss
Put the bark mix and perlite mix on the bottom then add moss in that order
They don’t grow in soil
Water once a week feed fertilizer once a month and feed the pitchers milliworms
I second pure sphagnum moss
Do you use a humidifier to grow this plant or you just mist it and it did fine in the window I live in Virginia so it doesn’t really get that humid down here
I've tried a humidifier but never really saw a difference. Same with misting. Now, I pretty much just water them and let them grow! If you want to use a humidifier it can only help!
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub can you plz tell me what grow light you use cause I have two nepenthes and wanna make sure I have the right equipment before I invest into getting more.
Nice
Do these plants go thru dormancy like VFT? What do you recommend during cold weather? Mine usually sits outside under a roof on a porch. It has thrived this year.
Nope, no winter dormancy needed for Nepenthes Ventrata!
Can these be watered from the top? Or does it have to have a water pan? Recently got a few and want to know for better experience lol
Yes, definitely water from the top. They do not like sitting in water. I water thoroughly until the water drips out of the bottom. I then let it completely dry out before watering again. Try not to let them sit in water for too long, they really don't like tray watering.
Las nephentes crecen mucho y muy rapido?
Tenia pensado poner una nephentes bloody mary en una pecera de 7 litros convertido en terrario junto a un cryptanthus
How do u keep your tendrils most enough for it to develop pitchers?
The ventrata doesnt need as much humidity as other nepenthes. I mist my ventrata once a day and make sure they stay moist. I live in a very dry climate, not much humidity.
Does perlite help?
It does yes! It helps the substrate stay loose over time. Peat moss, without perlite can turn into a brick over time. The perlite and sand help keep it loose.
Good job man those are hard to grow
Thank you! This one is growing like crazy right now!
Nice
Eh it is hard sometimes
Get a full spectrum grow light. I’m not an expert with plants but in three years I had one that was the size of my hand grow and almost hit the ceiling. I have done several cuttings and now have 4 large plants. They seem to really like South facing windows, additional light from grow lights in winter and plenty of humidity- you can get a humidifier if needed.
Does the trap get water inside on its own or do you add water to it?
In great conditions, it will make its own fluid on the inside. In less than perfect conditions, you can add a little distilled water to help it produce more.
You probably wont reply but i have a nepenthes bloody mary and the leaves have gone brown.I have a grow light on it from around 1pm till 11pm its also starting to happen to my other nepenthes under the same light. Also i grow them in a terrarium
Sounds like the light might be too close? They are sensitive to direct light. If the redding/browning seems to be whete the light is strongest, that's almost certainly it. Try backing the light off a bit. Good luck!
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub ok thanks !
Of course!
Does it grow faster with perlite or with time
Perlite or time? I'm not sure I completely understand the question?
what is this potted in it doesnt look like moss
Can you keep these plants outside in direct sunlight with flytraps?
They dont want as much direct sun as flytraps. The leaves will burn fairly easily. Maybe 3 hours of direct sun and the rest indirect. They are great window sill plants!
Thankyou for replying so quickly! Also for all the carnivorous plant tips!
Of course!
@Carnivorous Plants Hub Im sorry if I'm bothering you, but can you put Sundew in the same conditions as a Venus Flytrap and even in the same pot?
No bother at all! I wouldn't grow sundews and venus flytraps together. Sundews typically need more humidity and thrive in conditions where they are kept more wet. This level of humidity and moisture in the soil could lead to root rot for venus flytraps. You may be able to get away with growing a Drosera Carpensis (Cape Sundew) as they are much more hardy and more tolerant to lower humidity. However, they are not two plants I recommend growing in the exact same conditions.
This doesn’t relate to the video really but is it ok if I keep my VFT in just pure sphagnum moss?
It sure is! It's definitely a good substrate for flytraps!
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub awesome, thanks! I just ask because I notice most people have them in a peat and perlite mix and wasn’t sure if I should do the same.
Ya, sphagnum moss works really well. I've used both. Just make sure it's pure sphagnum with no other additives! Stay away from anything miracle grow.
Can I use reverse osmosis water for it?
Definitely, as long as the TDS is below 50, you should be okay!
How much humidity did you give it
This plant has had low humidity, probablt7 30 to 40% tops.
Do you add any fertilizer?
I have not for this one.
Hindi ba yan mapuputol sa leaf nya yung pitcher?
I'm sorry my friend, I tried translating this but I'm still not 100% certain what your question is?
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub can the leaf where the pitcher is attached support the weight of the pitcher when it has water inside it?
If the plant is healthy it sure can! I've had full pitchers before. Supports no problem.
Hey there my tap water is 60 ppm is that safe for my nepenthes 😅I need your help
If you plan on repotting every 1 to 2 years, that should be fine!
60ppm of what?
My ventrata shot our two basals and is refusing to pitcher so I’ll probably chop them off so it can put more energy into the main plant 💀
Did nepenthis ventrta varity bloom
Mine has not flowered yet. I'll probably do a video when it does though!
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub thank you
What kind of soil mix did you use?
@@planthobbyisttina i use, cocopeat only, coco chips +spagnum moss mix, most preferd is spagnum moss only medium
What plant is this called?
This is a Nepenthes Ventrata
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub nepenthes has a nickname the monkey cup
This is nepentes Alta
I think you meant Alata, but this is kind of an Alata. It's a Ventrata, mix between Ventricosa and Alata.
Yes I mean nepentes alata
Day 1:they can eat tiny ants
Lol!
