This song is definitely a musical masterpiece. It's amazing how the song is in a minor chord to show sadness, but when Jimin sings 'Caught in a Lie' the chord changes to a major which should show happiness. In reality, the music itself is a lie just as much as Jimin is lying to himself.

Right, the music swells, it changes from minor to major and there's a release in the chord progression that mimics the release he's longing for but can't achieve!

Jimin speaks a lot about the perfectionism and self esteem issues that he deals with which I can completely relate to. Keeping this in mind, along with the narrative he speaks about when he wrote Promise (which I highly recommend you watch the lyric video alongside his Vlive explanation of that song, btw, it's amazing ♡), I always viewed Lie as a description of Jimin lying to himself - putting aside his own pain, hurt, desires, etc. in order to live up to his own and other's expectations (real or imagined).
He wants to be rescued from his own compulsive thoughts.
Just my thoughts and opinion. 🤷🏻

This was one of the songs that got me interested In BTS as more than just another group that puts out bangers to put in my gym playlist. I went to school for music performance and this song has got a Picardy third in it that’ll whack you upside the head, because it is not used as a resolution but as an accent in the continuing minor. First time I heard it, my inner music geek sat up out of it’s coffin. AND it is on the word lie, so the music is expressing the lyrics and that my friends is called text painting, and with that we have spanned multiple years of my music theory classes, and my inner music geek ran down the aisle shouting hallelujah!

Jimin wrote the lyrics and said in his latest vlive. He like all of his songs but “lie” is too dark for him. Every time he performs “Lie”, he reminds him the pass and would be in a dark mood. He is such a talented and embody art and passion.
The lyrics videos are two languages. The first line is written in Hangul, the second in the Romanisation of Hangul and the third in English (obvs). However there are plenty of videos out there with other languages to substitute for English! Plenty of ARMY translators to take care of that.

The song lie is about Jimins struggle with negative thoughts about his singing abilities. He struggled so badly with his need for perfection. He was soooo incredibly hard on himself so he wrote Lie.
I would interpret it as all encompassing the overly critical light Jimin saw himself in. His voice, his need for constant pravtice, body image, etc. That's a lie I think many of us can all relate to.

Also it's about his struggles of trying to fit that perfect idol image. He used to starve himself so he can lose weight. He woykd eat only 1 meal a day. It got so bad that he would pass out after dance practices. Once he passed out on stage after performing.

Luv your reaction and appreciation of his skill and the whole performance.... when you said, "Those are ARMY globes, they give those to you at the concerts..."..... I almost choked on my tea.... LOL.... they GIVE them to you for about $55....... hahahahahaha! Technically speaking, they are "ARMY Bombs" but don't call them that if you take them on a trip and have to go through security anywhere.... "light sticks" is the suggested term. :-) My husband took me to the concert in Chicago and kept joking he was going to tell the TSA employees he had an ARMY bomb if they asked if he had anything to declare.... I promised to leave him in jail and take pictures at the concert without him. LOL..... I love how musically moving and genius this song (and much of their content) is.... did you notice it is in a MINOR key except the "caught in a lie" phrase is in MAJOR key.... love that.... and his voice, just amazing, like his dancing.

Please react to the Boy Meets Evil + Lie intro performance. (Jimin and J-hope) Jimin dances with blindfolds in that one as well. Also the song is about Jimin's issues with striving for an unattainable perfection. The 'lie' is him constantly telling himself no matter how good he is that he's still not good enough. It causes him to practice his singing and dancing excessively, to the point where it's unhealthy, yet feel like he still isn't 'perfect'. With that he ends up in a vicious cycle and so is 'caught' in this self denigrating lie. At least that's what Jimin wrote the lyrics about when it comes to his personal feelings. The song is on the Wings album and is generally about inner conflict and trying to escape lies and temptations. A sort of continuation to Boy Meets Evil by J-hope in a way (at least personally they kinda fit together to me.)

I agree with his interpretation of the lyrics. Definitely a possible reality for those in the biz. For others it might sound like a shallow thing, but in an industry like showbiz, not everybody's real. I think the persona in the lyrics could definitely be talking abt that. Jimin did say the lyrics weren't necessarily from experience, so they could be simply based on what the boys saw around them.
Jimin was stuck in a cycle of low self image. He didn't think he could sing well (I call BS.) He didn't like the way he looked. He thought he was pudgy (I again call BS.) He even revealed in an interview that he ate only one real meal in a 10 day period of time.
So the Lie is the voices internal, and maybe external, that say we aren't good enough. I understand exactly how this feels. Poor self image, feelings of failure, and more are something I deal with everyday. Thanks to my Therapist I'm getting better. A big part of my recovery is BTS. I'm learning to Love Myself more everyday. And now, like this post, I'm learning to Speak Myself as well. Please seek help if you have these feelings about yourself. A third party that isn't involved in the situation is immensely helpful! Therapist, Pastor, Priest, Minister, Psychologist, Psychiatrist... just reach out for help.
I'd love to list if you'd like. Just try to be patient for an answer.
I'm trying to settle into a new apartment. It still doesn't feel like home.

▶He said it was about the lies he told himself that he wasn't good enough, would never be enough, but he's getting better at believing in himself..I think it's about his singing, as the last one to join BTS, he barely had 3-6 mos. to train both his dancing & vocals, b4 their 2013 debut (unlike the others who had years to train)..
▶He was already a great dancer, but hard to really learn to get deeper into harder hip-hop which is "heavy downward moves/hitting down", when he was more used to graceful upward/lighter moves in contemporary/ballet moves, so he had to get confidence there, then he must have had a naturally good voice, but had barely any training, so was insecure about that b4 their debut on tv & still gets insecure sometimes, but again, as they mature I think he's learning to not let those deceiving lies get to him, cuz he's an incredible performer! I'd pay big bucks to see him sing & dance!

Annemay Seyfried it’s not about singing. It’s just about his overall compulsive desires to live up to others expectations and throwing his own desires and thoughts away in the process.
Lie is such a beautiful and amazing and unique song, but I think the live version of it took so much of jimin's energy in the past because of its difficult choreography, so he had to focus either on the vocals or just on the dance, and ofc dance is his passion so he would put double effort on it, and on the smallest mistake he would feel so bad and put so much pressure on himself, BUT even though all of this the live performance is so perfect every single time!!
so just like jimin I love Lie but for the live version I have mixed feelings because of the pressure he would feel every time he went on stage

Damn right they aren't. I bought my daughter one over the internet. We got to the concert and it wouldn't "sync" so that it would change colors with the rest of the ARMY bombs at the concert so I bought her another one at the venue and I kept the other one. They DEFINITELY are not free or cheap.

Just to throw it out there, that little end dance move and the acting / kneeling on stage Jimin did at the end is all influenced by greats like James Brown. Where he would have live audiences going crazy , in suspense then just hit them with a quick 1 - 2 and turn the lights out. That's legend shit man, gotta love Jimin.
Most BTS lyric videos are made by fans, the first line is typically Korean (hangul), the second line is romanized English, so just the way we would say the Korean words using our alphabet, this is the line to pay attention to if you want to learn to sing the words along with the song and then the third line is the English translation from Korean language.

They don't give ARMY bombs at concerts (I wish they did 😂😭) but it's part of the merch line where ARMYs buy to support our 7 amazingly talented dorks. I got the newest version which I purchased at their 1st US stadium concert at Citi Field. 😂💜 The lines to get merch were long! When I say long, you literally have to go through a couple of lines first just to get to the final line for the actual merch. We ARMY patiently & happily waited because it was definitely worth it...yes, ARMY unite in every way. 😭💜😱💜😍💜

Actually they are called ARMY Bombs. You actually have to purchase them. They are now connected to your phone via blue tooth and when you go to a concert they can be put in concert mode which allows them to be manipulated by stage crew. They can be used in a crowed to create different colors for songs, spell out words, and are used to set the mood for songs.
Jimin wrote this song thinking about his past when he was too harsh on himself, he would never be satisfied with whatever he did and blame himself for the faults he did
It's actually very sad listening to this song, especially when Jimin is my bias

Lie is from their wings album and this song along with 6 others by each of the boys individually have a short film that goes along with the song, they connect to a storyline BTS called Bangtan Universe, it is a lot to get into and I hope that someone can explain better than I can but I'll just give you the order of the videos/songs, Begin by Jungkook, Lie by Jimin, Stigma by Taehyung, First Love by Yoongi, Reflection by Namjoon, MAMA by Hoseok, and Awake by Jin. Hoseok also has an intro on this album called Boy Meets Evil and I don't remember if you guys reacted to it but check them all out!

The light stick (which is called an ARMY bomb) is not given out at concerts. You can buy them yourself. Before concert you can sync it up at a Booth and it will sync up the lights to the performances during the concert 💜💜💜
9:27 Just FYI: The three languages are actually 2... The first line is Korean, the line below it is how English speakers can pronounce the Korean words if you can’t read Korean. It’s called Romanization since they’ve taken the Korean letters (Hangul 한글) and given them Roman Characters & sounds. The third is obviously English...
