ISOPOD BIN MAINTENANCE WITH ME

  • Follow along as I do some regular weekly checks on a few isopod bins, featuring Armadillidium gestroi, Armadillidium omblae "Sandstone", Cubaris murina "Florida Orange", Cubaris sp. "Blue Pigeon" and Cubaris sp. "Rubber Ducky".
Is the mossy side moist enough? Did the isopods eat last weeks food? Do we see any out and about or are they hiding? Should we add more leaf litter or calcium?
Tell me in the comments how your bins are going! Do you do weekly or bi-weekly maintenance checks?

Fungus gnats are great. They actually eat more mould than springtails do it's just that they're annoying lol.

Do they really?! I had no idea.. Thank you for letting me know. I feel like I need to go read more about fungus gnats!

It’s the larvae stage of any fly or what have you that is so voracious!
I can’t speak to how good or bad fungus gnats potentially might be, I do plants and they’re a bad sign if you spot them around most houseplants!
The conditions they like are easy to recreate in a bin and somehow it’s not so gross… if you have them on most houseplants you can expect some nasty hiding somewhere

Where do you get your bulk leaf litter?

      Hi!
I usually grab a bulk box from thedefiantforest.com because they have other leaves besides oak and I’m allergic to oak. Hope this helps!
