- Cubaris murina is one of the best pet isopods! They are small, but they cute, easy isopods to care for, and they come in different colors.
In this video, I will explain how to care for Cubaris murina, and show several morphs: Cubaris murina ‘Little Sea’, which is the wild type; Cubaris murina ‘Papaya’, a pink form, Cubaris murina ‘Glacier’, a completely white form, and Cubaris murina ‘Anemone’, a morph that is sometimes solid orange and other times is orange mottled with gray.

These little Lovies are my absolute favorite
I got some papayas, and I love them SO much already! Ty for this video so I can keep them thriving
Delighted to hear it!
I just found your videos tonight. You are awesome I don’t know how I didn’t see you when I was searching before. Thank you for providing good information straight forward and to the point.
I would love to have those breed of isopods collection
Excellent Video!
Those are really awesome love the color...
Thank you. Just picked up some new isopods at a reptile show including cubaris marina papaya.
Quick breeding is putting it mildly. I started with seven specimens last year from my own backyard, and even after upgrading to a much bigger bin, the colony looks like moving sand every time I open it. I don’t really have space to split the colony, so the high density is staying for now.
As long as they are doing well, high density is great!!
I'm in love with my new cubaris murina glaciers already! I really appreciate your isopod video series, it's been so helpful.
What are some "tougher" plants that these guys would avoid eating?
Glad you find it helpful! Things like Sansevieria should be safe, they probably favor mostly softer things like mosses.
@@Aquarimax thank you!
Thanks for uploading this informative video
Thank you for watching it! 😁
This series is great man!
Thank you!
I was going to ask if they need heat or not. Glad room temp is ok.
Yay
Do Cristarmadillidium muricatum too 🎉
The one Cubaris species I keep, because I'm still a bit sketched out by the fact that species like Panda Kings are being collected from the wild with such abandon that there's no real scientific information on them and even less regard for their conservation in the wild. Meanwhile most captive C. murina are derived from stock introduced to North America, and they're not in particular danger by being harvested
Cubaris murina are absolutely lovely animals, a little shy like most Cubaris, but they reproduce really well so you always get to see some scurrying around. Is the second part of your ezyeddie video coming soon? I can't believe you've kept us waiting.
They are marvelous little creatures! I ended up doing the reveal on a recent livestream! I guess I need to make sure they show up elsewhere as well 😁
@@Aquarimax Please do! Back to murina though, there's sadly no glaciers in the UK yet, but me and eddie talk about it frequently enough that I'm sure we'll sort something out for the people on my side of the Atlantic one day. He's absolutely nailed their environment, he's got swarms of them.
Oh I'm so glad you made this. I love these guys. I have all the same ones you do except the glacier, But that's coming next week so I can't wait. How is your budgie?
You’ll like those glaciers!!
Unfortunately, we lost our budgie some time ago. We were having a lot of wildfires in the area, so the air quality was very poor. We took him to the vet when he started looking I’ll, and they attempted to treat him, but unfortunately he passed away. 😢 RIP our buddy Twilly.
@@Aquarimax Oh no I'm so sorry. Budgies are so special. Condolences from me and Minion.
Love your Videos. Which cubaris species would you recommend for a beginner?
Thank you! I would recommend Cubaris sp. ‘Panda King’ as well as Cubaris murina for beginners.
Do they need a lot of ventilation? And if so how much? How big the air holes etc please?
I found one so far. Mainly I get the black or blues around here along with spotted ones. But I'm trying to breed this I think it's male.
Is there something I can use in place of rotting wood if I can’t get any?
Mine really love banana leaves!
Good to know! Fresh or dried?
@@Aquarimax they are dried.
@@mongguppiesandendlers cool! I may have to try that.
Hello Rus!
Great video! You have some wonderful looking isopods there.
Would you say these guys burrow a lot? I noticed you said you recommend about an inch of substrate, which leads me to think "not really" but I wanted to ask specifically.
I know my Canyon Giants burrow, so I give them more substrate than my others. I always THOUGHT cubaris were diggers, but I could be wrong or mixing things up. I'm still learning!
In the future I think I'm going to start a colony of Papayas for my daughters. We'll see.
Thanks again.
Go easy.

These will burrow to some extent. I feel like they do so a bit less than Rubber Duckies, though.
Spoiler alert: The next video, next Friday, was inspired by one of YOUR questions in the comments!
@@Aquarimax Ah, maybe it was the Duckies I was confusing them with. Hats off to you and how you're able to recall things so fluidly!
And, wow! I cannot wait to see. I don't want to know. The ONE good thing about asking so many questions is, I cannot be sure which you are speaking of. haha.
And I love surprises.
I'll be there for sure!
Go easy.

Hi Russ! any thoughts on cubaris murina for composting? I've been thinking of adding some isopods to speed up an established indoor worm bin with red wrigglers, and I'm thinking either cubaris murina, giant canyons or venezillo parvus. any thoughts on which of these (or any others) might work best?
Out of those three, I cast my vote for Porcellio dilatatus, though dairy cows or Milkbacks would probably be at the top of my list.
I just bought some yesterday! These are a lot more shy then I expected, but are sooo cute and so beautiful! I bought the wildtype little seas but they're so cute. I see tiny white isopods that don't conglobate in the enclosure, I am not sure if they're dwarf whites because they are a lot smaller. Maybe baby dwarf whites? Should I seperate them?
Congratulations on the Cubaris murina! I’d separate the little white ones. It sounds like they could be dwarf whites.
@@Aquarimax they're very sneaky, and hard to find but I'll try seperating them. I am afraid they could be dwarf whites.
@@PlecsExotics3 it will be much easier to remove the Cubaris murina to a different enclosure, that is what I should have explained in the first place.
@@Aquarimax I'll try that. Can dwarf whites outcompete the murinas? If yes I might just move the Cubaris.
can you pleaseeeeeeee do cubaris sp. white side i need help i cant find much information about them
I haven’t worked with that species, but if I can find someone who has experience and success with it, I could interview that person about it 👍🏼
