  • We've seen more triple axels than ever before in ladies figure skating this year. Here's a rundown of all the women currently jumping 3A's!
    *note that any numbers indicate only triple axels in official ISU-sanctioned international competition, so nationals, local comps, Japan Open, etc don't count. These unofficial competitions are denoted with ** in the video!

    Who do you think currently has the best triple axel?
    I'd say it's between Rika and Alena

    • @user-rj7hc6gs5u
      @user-rj7hc6gs5u Před 4 lety +85

      Alena, I think. She makes it higher and further. The jump is as candle, with a smaller angle, because it looks prettier, plus the exit with an additional element.
      Pay attention at the GOE.

      Alyona has difficult TR in and out, high and long 3A. It was a new element back then for her, she did a great job. Rika usually has a smaller 3A when compared to Alyona's but thats mostly due different technique, however, she has better air position and landing. Her 3A's are being fully rotated on the air, which is so so amazing. They're both great!, it is difficult to say who's better.
      I believe Wakaba will have huge 3A, once it's stable, there is footage of 4CC practice and the length of her jump was like watching Yuzu or Han Yan's.

  • @userbunny14
    @userbunny14 Před 4 lety +45

    Its nice that so many ladies are landing it, but IMO they should not be even attempting let alone training a 3A or quads until 14 minimum. Many of those 10 and 12 year olds land HARD off these jumps, and it can only mean major problems and injuries in the future from the repeated beating on the young bones.
    My favorite 3A is Alenas because 1) she did train it prior to this year, but stopped, and didnt pick it up again until she was 15-16, so I think she will be able to maintain it for longer, or get it back if she loses it due to lack of training on ice during this CoVID stuff and puberty.
    2) its solid as a rock. Shes turned out on it and tripped, yes, but never totally fallen so far in competition. No one has been that consistant with it first year competing it.
    3) transitions. She has Yuzuru level transitions with those counters and rockers and the falling leaf out in the short. I think she'll be doing an ina bauer into a 3A in the next couple seasons like she did with 2A.
    4) height and distance. Her 2A was huge at times, so i knew she could do a 3A, but her height she gets on the 3A is massive, its hard to believe she cant do a quad with that height! I guess because all the other jumps are backward entry and she doesnt get a much height that way? Some struggle to get height in their axles but not the others, while she seems to be opposite or at least equal in all.

      I’m glad you said this. I sure did notice that all of a sudden after the olympics, there was a sudden boom of all these young ladies doing 3A and even landing quads. You’re right, it’s GOT to be murder on the bones at that age. It will be interesting to see if they maintain it when they become of age. I feel like they’re put under pressure to start earlier and earlier in the skating world so time will tell!

Back in the day...in the 90s , there were only Midorito Ito and Tonya Harding who could do this....followed by a few more in the 2000s. I think Rika’s exits are underappreciated. Yes she doesn’t have diffficult entries but her landings are much better than Alena’s and she usually has steps/one foot skating out of her triple axels. Alena’s entries and speed is amazing though. I only find her landings a bit stiff. Other than that her 3As are gorgeous. Maybe Rika’s air positions is better and combinations are more effortless compared to Alena’s. This is surely going to be an interesting season!

    Suddenly 3A becomes a routine repertoire. Good to see this in post YNK era. Frankly this should have happened ten years ago. What a regression in the past 15 years leading to the loss of audience and FS fans. Glad for the progression in the sport. Hope for fair judging.

      @Catalina_Estevez Před 4 lety

      @Ada Rodriguez veamos:
      - Kihira no tiene un 3A estable, se cae en una, y otra la hace bien, recuerda que desde su última temporada junior y sus 2 temporadas senior, no tiene 3A estable.
      - You igual que Kihira, en su primera temporada senior hace bien un 3A y en el otro se cae. Ya ni mencionar su etapa junior (donde empezó a saltar sus 3A) por que paso desapercibida.
      En resumen, tampoco es estable.
      - Alena para ser su primera temporada senior (ojo en junior nunca puso un 3A) tiene un 3A estable, por ahi que se le habrá escapado un error, pero no ha tenido caidas, algo que el público y jueces consideran teniendo en cuenta que es su debut.
      - Hay que tener en cuenta que bajo este sistema, todos los saltos se aprecian y califica muy bien por los jueces si tienen: entradas y salidas complejas, cobertura en el hielo, ejecución del salto, técnica y altura (por ahi me olvido algo).
      En el caso del 3A de Alena, cumple todos los requisitos.
      En el caso de Kihira, sólo tiene técnica y altura, no cumple todos los requisitos.
      Es por eso que en las competiciones principales (eventos de GP, y en el GPF) Alena supero en el GOE del 3A a Kihira.
      No se trata sólo de que el salto sea alto o de libro de texto, se trata de la calidad como presentas el salto y el puntaje que se logra en las competencias nivel A importantes (no incluye eventos B o nacionales).
      Las 2 veces que Alena (en nivel senior) se enfrentó con su 3A al 3A de Kihira, la supero eso es comprobable al ver la nota técnica.
      Ojo no incluyo ni Europeos, 4 Cc ni mundiales, por que no se enfrentaron directamente, tampoco incluyo a You, por que no compitio directamente con Alena, pero si nos basamos en suposiciones...Alena hubiera superado también a You.
      Lo siento, pero los resultados de competencias importantes NO MIENTEN.

    the best are definitely alena and rika. rika seems to be a little bit more confident and familiar with the axel, but since she has a way softer landing and less distance, it doesn’t give as much of that subconscious “wow factor” alena does. rika wins for overall technique, and alena wins for the shock and presence.

    Personally, I wish the judging system would favor artistry because there are so many amazing skaters like Alina Zagitova or Evgenia Medvedeva who won’t be able to compete in Beijing 2022 because of all the competition with all these fancy jumps
    For example, Alina is capable of a 3Lz+3Lo+3Lo+3Lo+3Lo combination. I’ve seen her do it at practice but she hasn’t competed a triple axel or que yet and that is what it going to prevent skaters like her from being able to go to Beijing. So personally, I just wish that artistry had more points so there could be a better balance between countries at the olympics
