Hello, I have an idea for video. Would you be interested to take a look back at the skaters from the previous generation? To check lutzes of Sasha Cohen, Irina Slutskaya, Shizuka Arakawa, Michelle Kwan and some others from the same period. Are flutzes among the top skaters the disease of this decade or they were around earlier, but we weren't just awared?

@@SamSam-ru2qi YES YES YES!!!!! This is where too many “flutz’s” come in as well. And certain skaters try to hide it with lovelier, more complex take-off intros. “Oooh I was watching that, not watching closely for the outside edge…the flat or the inside edge take off!” You’ve got to be all focused on that entry edge to see it! Judges get a closer look, but few spectators do. That’s not to say that they shouldn’t work on more complex, more graceful jump entries, BUT only if they don’t use it as a crutch to hiding flat or true outside edge Lutz take-offs. Some hide their Flutz too easily, almost as if it’s a conscious choice or training technique like pre-rotation

I think Kaori's lutz being called proves the judges can see when a lutz isn't a true lutz, they just unfortunately choose not to see it for some skaters. I feel bad for all the skaters that this is how judging is because it helps none of them - if lutzes were called properly those who had problems with them would have a reason to fix it, and those who don't would get the extra points they deserve.

yep, unfortunately her coaches have realized that she will not be called and load as many "lutzes" as possible into her programs to gain extra points unfairly. when she does 4lz she typically is up to 5 lutzes a competition, (1 3Lz in sp, 2 3lz and 2 4lz in fs) keeping several extra points when the lutz edges are not called and points are not deducted appropriately. it's very sad to see not just for anna but for other skaters who are losing placements unfairly, i'm not sure why the isu is so content with doing this.

Anna in the junior was getting ! on her flip several times but since she became front runner the calls suddenly gone.

      1) Anna's edge is flat, not inside (i.e. not a 'flutz').
      2) Aliona's too. She had (sometimes in the past) shallow outside just because they got rid of any entry (?), so she could focus on her edge. Now it's definitely flat.
      3) Alexandra's flip edge is outside - 'lip'. But she got only '!' call in both programs.
      4) Bradie also has a flat edge, but I don't see any '!' in the details...
      5) Bonus. Kaori's flutz was not called at WC2019. So, I understand now, why she put 3Lz, not 3Lo, in her short. But it was called this time.
So, I think, it would be great, if all (not only lutz edges) would be called correctly and judging all (not only eteri girls) skaters would be questioned.

I know that 1/2 prerotation or more has come to be common, but in my opinion as a skater and as a fan, that takes away credit from the skaters who actually have fully correct technique. I'd rather give more credit to skaters who have good lutzes than overlook the skaters who still have work to do on their lutzes in order to fully master the jump. There's one thing I'm thinking:
When a skater skates, if their techniques is just like textbook, the judges can give them +5's on GOE on the jumps, spins and stsqs then the judges minus back the points to the performance and choreography points if the program doesn't look "aesthetic" to them. For example:
    - Elizaveta should've received +4-5 GOE for her Lutz jumps because how well she executed them. On the contrary, her presentation and choreo not very pretty then the judges can reduce her points on that.
    - Anna's Lutz jumps should've been reduced the GOE down to below +3 because of the toepick, severe pre-rotation and wrong edges on them. But her presentation, choreo and transition look beautiful then the judges can increase her points on those.
I mean, art is objective, but techniques have standards, you have to judge techniques of a skaters based on those standards. If the judges had given points that way then figure skating would've been a fair sport.

With Anna even her entrance is barely outside. Most flutzers have a clear outside edge during the entrance and then change to flat or inside edge at the very last moment. Anna's outside edge lasts for only a microsecond and never goes deep even during the entrance phase. Her take-off edge is flat at best, probably more leaning to inside (too bad the camera angle is inconclusive). Her toe-pick is non existent. This is not a lutz by any standards. If anyone wants my opinion, the whole concept of GOE is a joke because it doesn't apply to the basic jump requirements as such. One can jump a lutz that doesn't meet any of the basic requirements for that jump and still earn 5 GOE. Who came up wih this nonsense anyway? If it doesn't apply to the jump itself it should be judged as PCS, not as GOE.
