    Chris- I see the previous comment was a year ago. Please know, your video presence is still incredibly authentic and approachable, your instructions and demonstrations are practical and logical and easy to follow. I have two sills with rot in the front of my house, and I thought I was going to have to replace 7 windows (to keep the look coherent). That's expensive. Now instead I'll try replacing the rotten sills. Could save me thousands. So grateful for your videos. Thank you so so so very much.

    Wow, that was great, even my wife liked it. I finally understand how all these pieces of wood are organized and fit together. I am not good in spatial thinking, unless I see someone take it apart piece by piece I can’t figure what’s going on. Thanx again!

      I just tried a vinyl version window stool and something went wrong, it ended up being too low. The window in closed position still had a good inch gap. It was getting dark, had to just button it up by adding a piece on top. I'm frustrated. It's nothing that you showed, I just done something wrong. I replaced just like old o e come out, even though the new vinyl was shaped different.

    Saw a couple of your videos on this. Your repair is applied to traditional (i.e. "old") windows that are frameless with window sashes in the window opening, where the window sill actually is a component of the window and not just an exterior trim piece that can be applied after window installation, right? I'm trying to understand the different window scenarios possible when there is a window repair. Thanks.

    Your video taught me two successfully replace three sills for "normal" size double hung windows. Thanks!!! Much appreciated. But now I have a larger picture window and have 3 concerns.
    1) I presume the 2x4 rough sill framing provides the main support. On the inside, just the drywall? It's raised higher than the rough sill, won't the drywall break?
    2) Why is there a little groove along the interior face of a pre-cut sill?
    3) If a pre-cut sill is lacking sufficient depth (from outside to inside), because the wall is too thick what's the best way to proceed? Mill a custom sill? Join another board to the interior length? Give up and call a pro?
    Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

I’m not a carpenter and my Outter windowsill broke off which then allows all the water to drip down behind the vinyl siding because they had it tucked up under the windowsill but we use teen challenge carpenters which I would not recommend the shotty work yes in expensive and I was cool with them but still shotty work something just wasn’t right Why it Rooted out !

  • @TucoRamirez3121
    @TucoRamirez3121 Před 8 měsíci

    At 0:32, you mentioned that you did not know the name of the window trim you pointed to...Hardly anyone knows... Vinyl compression jamb liners are held in the jamb pocket via a flange on the edges. These flanges fit into a groove in a piece of trim called the jamb stop. There is a jamb stop on the exterior side of the jamb, and one on the interior side. When viewed outwardly, it appears to be a solid piece of wood, but it has cut grooves. I need some of that molding on my window repair as well.
    Also, you mentioned 22 degrees as the angle for the cutting the side trim where it meets the sill. Most others use a standard angle of 15 degrees, so I was wondering how you came up with 22 degrees.

      @ChrisSilverman  Před rokem

      I think making sure the seams are caulked where the brick molding meets the sill is most important because consistent water touching those seams the wood will soak up into brick mold going upward. I see the same thing happen a lot on the bottom of exterior doors on the jam next to the sill plate.

    love your vids! I have a question. How do I remove the sill on a 3 window unit? (you should do a video on it - can't find any on youtube of double or triple windows with 1 piece sill) I removed the apron and it appears to be one continuous sill interlocking all 3 windows. Should I use an oscillating tool to cut the sill from the inside of the house under each vertical part of the window so I don't rip the windows apart when I pry it out? Does that make any sense? I can send a picture if you have a second to tell me. thanks!

    • @ChrisSilverman
      @ChrisSilverman  Před 3 lety

      Next opportunity I will for sure do a video. The 3 windows actually have 3 individual sills and one long nose piece that makes it look like one long sill. So, the process for repairing the 3 sills is going to be very similar.

Besides using a primer like Kilz - and there’s another product I saw recently that is used to seal MDF that I thought might help - I wonder how we can keep this from happening ? Of course using a rot-resistant wood ,,, but , unless one goes to the trouble of milling their own brick molding in addition to the sill material being more resistant , I wonder ?

    Just rip out the left and right side once you cut out/removed the center sill: bad advice, really bad advice. This cracked the interior stool, and on my double hung frame, broke and ripped out the wood that the track sits upon. So, both window sashes and the track on that side had to be taken out to repair that. Instead, tap the remaining sill with a hammer to create space between that and the frame, then slide a long flathead screwdriver between the remaining sill piece and the frame and pry it away.

    just because there's commonalities in bone structures among different animals does not mean they evolved from each other or our ancestors of each other. that's completely ridiculous to say that one species is an ancestor of another species.
    There is no evolution of species. All the species were created as they are to fit into this glorious universe of variety.
    I don't agree with that as being the truth of our universe and the reality we're living. I feel Elohim created us. I feel there's an intelligent template that precedes our human life existence.
    there is no way you would be able to find a bunch of different fossils of different animals and say they're related, and say their intermediary fossils. that's just complete nonsense falsity and non truth.
    Everything on Earth is related in the sense that we all are part of life and we all come from the source.
    natural processes which can be studied and understood are coded into the creation by the source of creation. there is no evolution of species. Every animal sticks to its kind and doesn't change over time. that's a complete falsity. that's completely made up. and there's absolutely no proof for that at all. and I can't be proved. it's as much magical as the LifeSource creating everything spontaneously out of its own nature.
