I just want to say THANK YOU !! Im a ex n.a.s.a. employee and now im a general contractor / handyman . Your videos have been very helpful !!
KA
You're channel is now my favorite on CZcams . I was wondering how you've learned to do so much work. When you first started out did you ever have to teach yourself something ASAP for a job you has to do? Thanks for the great videos!
I am absolutely ADDICTED to your videos... You have some serious skills my friend!
Thanks, Comments like this encourage me to keep making them.
Those pry bars "mine is a little diff shape" are one of my favorite tools. They make demo much easier. Can do the job of a 10lb crowbar with less damage to other things.
Love your videos. I, too work in this "trade". I have learned some tricks from you, and I appreciate you for that.
You are too good man. Absolutely professional..
Great Job !!!! Congratulations my friend !!!
U are truly making a difference man. Keep it up and thanks
Redid our whole house facia boards with fiber cement boards. Now no wood rot can set in. Had to repair some of the wood behind as this was also rotten. Sadly we don't get proper nature wood in SA most of the pine warps like crazy. If you want decent wood for repair it costs an arm and a leg
I like that vest dealeo , also the use of metal where applicable
Always enjoy watching your informative videos. Good, positive attitude.
How about some verbal explanation of what you are doing, and why, for those of us who are beginners? That's what I was looking for.
Oh well, maybe another video
It literally says what hes doing on the video repairing rotten fascia boards . Stupidd
Bruh it’s very self explanatory, your just a noob , before CZcams you just had to figure it out, it’s the life of a contractor
Good job, looking forward to that big one! Good luck👍
You make it look so easy .
Great job !.
superb skills and traits you have. bless you .
excellent vlog !!
looking great, make sure that you have a drip loop on the coax line =)
I gotta do something similar to a shed. It's in rough shape and I've never done this before so I'm researching. Thank you for uploading!
this is crazy awesome. love the truck that has everything!
If you replace something, especially something that has rotted from water damage, you have to rectify the cause or you have done nothing. What I could see was no overhang of the shingles and improper drip edge install with no spacing behind the drip edge. Like you said the customer was what dictated the work to be done.
I use PVC board if I want it to last and can't be 100% corrective of the cause. If white on white like this job, no painting and will last for a very, very long time. Stuff I did on my garage >15 years ago still looks good.
Nice mobile workshop in your trailer. Impressive!
thanks
Anytime! It's good to have a mobile shop like that and not just a bunch of tools scattered around the truck/tool box. I'm sure it increases productivity a lot.
You are amazing, I like your creativity, nice done.
Quality work and organization...nice mini circular saw!!
Peace
Your video was amazing!! I would love to hire you to work on my home. I'm sure you're not in my area but if you were you would definitely be hired100% Thank you for sharing your skills and talent because you have made a senior citizen feel as though she too could attempt this job. So Kudos to you and keep sharing your amazing talent.
Brillant skills. Cheers.
What a talent keep up the good work.
The scab on the end of the soffit is proud of the fascia. What's to keep water from behind the metal band-aid you installed? You left the rotten soffit end in place?
All in all, that's nice work. One thing you may want to look into is the step flashing that should have been installed right above your repair. I believe that is the cause of the rot.
@@patrickcowan8701 "Repaired" - $20. Done right - $200+. A customer has to be old enough to see the value, and well-off enough to afford it, to pay for the second option.
Safety glasses my friend. Take it from someone who injured an eye.
Safety 3rd.
Thank you bro i have ben looking for vids just like yours first 1 i seen Awsome
Good job! How much run time do you get out of the Dewalt cordless saw?
You deserve a lot of thumbs up! :)
I gotta get me one of those cordless circular saws 👍
You didn't show how the wood was installed. It was magically installed.
Saul Souza it’s magic , you didn’t know that ? Lol I’m amazed at some of these instructional vids . I’m a fairly skilled carpenter , I’m going to start posting vids soon , I’m just scared of those people out there who think they know everything and just talk all kinds of shit
@savage 069 didya see the sheet metal cap her installed?
🤔🙏😁!!
@I Know Better thats not what you get pay to do ! Is not rocket science dude. You fix was rotten period who cares why or how it happend
@@Carpenters_Canvas Like the way John Wayne talks mad shiet. lol
Bro your trailer set up is sick!!! I want something like that man putting everything in the back of my yukon not kool anymore
This is a cool video man! Great Job!
Hey love your show. How much do you charge for 200 linear feet of facia and rafter tales that have dry rot and termite damage?
It would be very useful if you could tell exactly how long the job took plus the approximate material cost. You mention it somewhere in the comments, but that is very useful to include either in the description or in the video itself. Thanks a lot.
Nice job guy 👍😃
Sterling delivery You have inspired me to work on my channel, thanks. 🐼
JEEEEEEEZE, the handyman? I know it was a simple job, but with those skills you should be calls the craftsman.
I have a piece of rotten wood at my roof that is in a very similar situation. Will fix it next. Put a piece of sheet metal to protect the wood from water is a very good idea that I am going to do as well. Thank you!
Awesome...thanks for the videos....
Great video
Nice Job!
Im having trouble deciding wether or not to get new fashia boards, house was built 72 and I’m thinking they are the originals. Physically they look goodX, the paint is coming off and you can see the wood underneath which is gray. What should I do?
Good work brother, your a machine !!
When I had my fascia removed and replaced with new wood I made sure I bought some metal and had it formed or bent to place it over the wood so it would wrap around. I put paper underneath it and tucked it under the edge guard or flashing. Hopefully I will never have another wood rot problem, I hope it was worth the investment. Paint only goes so far, eventually it will penetrate and soak in the wood. I hate the idea of having so much wood on the outside of the home.
If only I could work that fast my repair would be a breeze.
What causes this to rot? Is it just time and weather exposure?
i have a spot and im afraid if i dont find the leak it wont do any good for me to replace it. Whats is the best way to find a leak? The panels inside my house have water damage i replaced them 2 yrs ago when i moved in because it was rottten. Oh yeah did i mention all of this is around the fireplace? i had someone tar around the base of it and it seems to still leak. I dont use it should i cap the top? Thanks fo this i think i am confident in starting this project after watching this video
That's the flashing around the chimney that does that. It can take a few tries to get a contractor who does it right. Try a licensed roofer, if you can get one who'll take little jobs. I'm bothering to respond 8 months later because a chimney-to-roof leak is a problem that tends to recur.
Also, don't cap the top for a leak. That only stops rain from coming into the fireplace - it'll do nothing to seal the chimney to the shingles, which is what needs to be done.
Nice repair on that facia partner. Hopefully you get the other gig and we'll get to see that job also. That sprayer could've come in handy last week when I refinished a customer's sun-beaten front door. Keep the videos coming partner, especially this weekend so I can pass the time while the approaching hurricane passes thru South Texas. I won't be firing up the BBQ pit this weekend....
I just saw that Harvey is going to hit Texas pretty good.
This sprayer even sprays latex pant. I filmed a video just on the sprayer. I can't believe it only cost $107.
Sorry if I missed it. What paint sprayer is this? Don't see a video. Is there a link?
I like the safety glasses (just squint)
Hi, how much do I charge to replace facia on a house? By foot or time and how much could be?
Amazing job👍👍👍👍😊😊😊
Thanks for fast forwarding.
Nice work.
Maybe answer my question please ? I have a small room we added years ago, the top over hang on outside on one corner is rotted, do I have to replace the roof wood corner or can I just paint it an replace a roof shingle , I need to know the rot will not travel if I cover an paint it ?
Never a thumbs down, 👍😎👍, cool vid
I have an out-building where they left the rafter tails exposed. What should I put up to support gutters? I'm not having any luck finding gutter videos that don't use finished buildings.
what saw are you using? small and powerful?
Where did you get the vest? That things pretty cool.
Could you give a link for the review on the paint sprayer? I'm looking at these know and would like to see what your thoughts were.
I'm planning on doing a video review. on it. I'm thinking of picking up one or two more for different kinds of paint and stain.
Was that a special saw that let you make the little cut out in the corner of the wood or can I do that with my Ryobi too.
He fast forwarded through setting the depth. Make a number of cuts at the depth you want the notch and then bang the leftovers out with your hammer.
Brilliant!
Great video as usual, did you film the enamel painting of the cabinets?
Yes. A detailed video.
Can you please tell me what’s the brand name of the tool vest you have on?
I do have to give you a👍 for priming the board first, but why didn't you caulk abound the edges or use spray foam? ❤🌅🌵
How did you get the metal piece to stick onto the corner?
I had to do some door repair like this a awhile back. Pain in the butt
Had concrete around garage in old house
Guy took it off old concrete. He said I need to replace rotten vinyl around based of garage before pouring new concrete. Do I just use a 2" nail gun to nail the new vinyl or do I use nails?? He also said I need to water proof it with outside paint or something.
How did you secure the galvanized sheet metal to the fascia? Glue? Nails?
Looked like glue. I’d use screws
why use this and not use pressure treated wood? and caulk or use ready patch to help seal joint and gaps for weathering?
Not as pictured.. but I like that tool jacket. Hadn't seen that.
Do you have to be licensed of some sort where you are to do these different types of trades...i.e. electrical or plumbing or anything else?
That up for interpretation.
Inspiration!
It's been a while.. have they decided to replace or consider fixing the remaining external issues?
Nice tool vest buddy.
Har-de-har-har.
Isnt the wood you joined it to still rotten???
Love your vest
I wondered if he carried the kitchen sink in it
can you come to iowa to do my facia before winter..? please please please i can't find anyone who can do it or who isn't bizy doing stuff..
what paint are you using. Please forgive me if that information is available somewhere already.
You make great videos and you are so talented, I am also addicted to all your videos. would like to know what make and model is that square you used to measure and help cut the board? thanks.
question why did you put flashing on the 90 of the facia board? never seen that done before...great videos
+prreed34 weatherproof
What type of wood to use on those fascia boards?
no pvc?
wife wanted new porch rails so when i removed them one of the post fell out of the roof. All of the inside for the roof is rotten inside the alluminum trim. can i replace the wood with out removing the vynal soffet?
How much do you charge to do 200 Linear feet of raptor tails and patient that has dry rot and termite damage
What kind of wood did you use?
Good job
I wish I could work that fast!
Lol....
How much would you charge for something like that and what part of the country are you in?
I have the Hitachi 6 1/2 circ saw, best handyman tool i think i have. 1 4Amp lithium battery will knock out most projects, including the remaining 20-25 feet of a 7 foot privacy fence. Lithium is hands down the only way to go, for distance.
+David FP I have all new lithium 20 volt dewalt. I traded in my old back up 18 volt for them. Can't bring myself to use them full time yet. They are keped in the workshop. Im sure ill bring them to work some day.
All I hear is to keep the batteries out of the heat. I think you will like for sure. Knock off batteries on ebay have been good to me too, just have to find the right seller from China. Less than half the price of name brand.
This lady bought Kobalt lithium sander, could not sand 2ea 3-1/2ft 2 x 4s, it sux. Also lithium B&D weedeater, couldn't finish 50ft of curb edging, it sux too. No more lithium batteries for me.
I watch a lot of Home Improvement videos, you have some of the best. Please keep making them. I don't think I've ever asked anyone to keep doing what they do, but you deserve to be the first.
Cool video and some of the fastest work I've ever seen. The $300.00 an hour you change is fare because you did that in like 15 min, so you would like change $75.00 bucks for that, what a deal. The guy that charges $100 an hour and takes 2 hours would be a rip-off hahaha
Something wrong with that guy he must be Trippin doesn't really speak much
I don't get it. What did you attach the wood board to if the whole thing was rotten? I have to do this to my house but I can't figure out what to attach (or how) a good board to. You handle those tools with mastery, nice demo. I have to clear my kids, wife, and dog out of the garage and call the city (jk) when I use power tools.
Good man! You painted the entire board before installing.
What type off wood did you use?? I need to do this to my house!
It look like Cedar
To what is your soffit attached ? Is it hanging? I did not see you installing your soffit to the fascia.
What was causing it to rot right there?
Liked that saw
I'm replacing everything with PVC. The end of rot and the end of painting.
I'm Interested in starting my own handyman service. I do building maintenance now. You got any advice for starting up?
Start doing side jobs on nights and weekends. I did side work for years before going out on my own. It helps build a customer base so that when you finally do go at it full time you have lots of work.
Thanks.
